Chapter 124 Adjutant’s 'shura The Scorching Flames' Original Work Explanation Vol Ii
Hello everyone, I'm the Adjutant, who feels like a servant, caretaker, and protector of the Goddess of Fate, Goddess Norn.
Today, I want to talk about the story of 'Shura the Scorching Flames.' We'll look at the tragedy in Korghi Village and how Ruzure tricked everyone, plus how this chapter pushes the already tired hearts from the last chapter even further. Enjoy the differences brought by Hiiro's involvement in the current path.
Alright, let's go.
'Shura the Scorching Flames─Thus They Imitate─'
[Chapter 2]
After overcoming Ruzure's schemes, it's now July, the start of summer.
Shura, now officially part of the Brunhilde Main Force, has been assigned to a new squad called Reginleif. In this squad, she meets 3 new teammates: Quollio Batigan, Sham Neshana, and Lyam Neshana. Since Shura moved to a new dorm with the main force, she already knows Sham from their previous dorm. Sham introduces her to her sister, Lyam, and Shura realizes that Lyam is the voice she heard during the Ruzure incident.
Although it's Shura's first time meeting Quollio Batigan, their relationship is fine. Quollio is a bit sarcastic but is a quiet bookworm.
However, there's a problem with their captain, Powell O'Doubler, a nobleman. Powell is all about noble ideals but is also driven by his desires. He openly shows disdain and lust towards Shura, which is not how a captain should act. Naturally, Shura is fed up and clearly rejects him, keeping his distance.
Powell gets angry, but he seems to know he can't match Shura's strength, so he just steps back and hurls insults.
Powell was a problem, but the bigger issue was with Lyam's white beast 'magic lamp.' The spirit of the lamp, Mokumon, was friendly and harmless to Lyam, but for Shura, who swore revenge on beasts, white and black were the same. Shura showed strong rejection, saying it was unacceptable.
Right after forming, they faced a crisis of splitting up, but thanks to Quollio's logical persuasion and Shura's bond with Sham, they managed to reconcile for now.
Now, the small team Reginleif had many issues, but they didn't have time to think about that because a new mission was given. The task was to guard the famous Wagner theater troupe on the continent. A few days after the mission was decided, they headed to the town of Joosa, where the theater troupe was performing. However, due to the recent decline of the knightly world, the local people were losing trust, and in Joosa, the residents didn't seem welcoming at all.
Feeling the pressure, Reginleif met the members of the Wagner theater troupe. The troupe leader, Drodo, and the famous actors, Marcus Millio, along with the renowned actress, Rose Carmine. They exchanged words with a few other troupe members too. They also got to know the town mayor, Haboch, and 5 old men from the Inquisitorial Council, including Haboch.
As part of the guard duty, they were also given many odd jobs by the townspeople, which felt like a local initiation. Notably, Shura learned about the town's unique funeral customs. In Joosa, they don't bury the dead; instead, they burn the body to ashes and let the bones flow in the wind at a nearby valley. Because of this, Shura realized there were no cemeteries in the town. On the way back, they unexpectedly ran into Marcus, who was sneaking around near the Inquisitorial Council's meeting place.
What are they doing? It turns out there are several health rooms locked up tight inside the gathering place. Why would there be such things in a remote valley town? What could possibly be inside? This made them very curious. While Shura warned Marcus to be careful and not act suspiciously, Marcus just smiled and invited Shura to dinner as a thank you for the trouble. But Shura declined and parted ways with Marcus.
Later, while looking around the town, Rose was seen standing in front of an empty lot that showed signs of a building that used to be there. They wondered what she was doing, but her vibe made it hard to approach her.
The next day arrived. It was finally the day of the performance. The Wagner Troupe had a tradition of serving special wine before the show, and the tent theater was filled with townspeople chatting and holding glasses. Director Drodo called out to Powell, inviting him to have a drink, and Powell agreed. However, he ordered Shura and the others to guard outside the theater while he enjoyed the wine alone. Shura and the others, already tired of the cold stares from the townspeople, left the tent without arguing and took their positions for security.
Then the show began. The title was 'Betraying Witch Yulirn.' It was about the hero king Sigmund, who founded the Capital of Holy Western Country Asgardam 5 hundred years ago. Yulirn, the maiden of the crimson flame, who supported him until his coronation, turned against him after the unification and clashed with Sigmund. After a fierce battle, Yulirn was defeated and executed by the king himself. This was based on historical events, but during the climax, an unimaginable tragedy occurred.
Just as Rose, playing the witch about to be burned at the stake, suddenly accused the townspeople of Joosa. Following that, nearly half of the townspeople transformed into beasts with screams.
The theater was in chaos, panic everywhere. Flames were spreading, but no one knew where they started. Beasts were attacking the townspeople, killing them left and right. When the 4 knights heard the commotion and rushed in, they were met with a horrifying scene.
The damage from the fire and beasts kept getting worse. Shura and the others tried to help the townspeople, but suddenly, townspeople who had turned into beasts attacked them.
The 4 managed to push the beasts back, but it was too late; all the townspeople were gone. Marcus and the theater troupe members were also killed by the beasts. The only one left was Rose, laughing maniacally on the stage. The flames grew stronger, and no amount of blue magic could put them out. When Shura shouted at Rose, asking why she did this, she replied with a chilling smile.
"Revenge."
Just one word.
After that, laughter echoed through the collapsing scene as the fire raged on. With no other choice, Shura and the others escaped the theater. But waiting for them outside were a pack of beasts that had escaped the flames and a giant beast, the Gigantes. Exhausted, Shura and the others fought on, but during the battle, Quollio noticed something about the Gigantes' voice and appearance.
The Gigantes was actually Powell, transformed into a massive monster. As soon as he saw Shura, he opened his huge mouth and lunged to bite. Shura barely avoided being caught but was thrown by the giant's arm and crashed into a wall. Facing the approaching beasts, Shura felt his life was in danger──then, in that moment, he heard an inner voice whispering, "Light it."
The voice repeated its whisper, and then it said,
"Light the fire of Twilight."
With those words, Shura opened her eyes and awakened to a new power.
What was pulled from her chest was the Scorching Flames sword, Lævateinn. The blade wrapped in crimson flames clearly stood out, but what was truly impressive was its power.
When Shura swung it, an enormous wave of fire erupted, consuming not just the tough enemies like Gigantes and the beast horde, but also half of Joosa's town street. It was a destructive fire that seemed to burn everything away. It was enough to instill clear fear in the Neshana sisters. However, Quollio alone seemed captivated by the terrifying flames, staring at the charred remains of Joosa's town street for a long time.
This situation led to the worst outcome, with 0 survivors except for the 4 members of the Reginleif squad. But there was more trouble to come when, the day before the performance, a diary was found in the empty lot where Rose had been standing.
The diary, buried in the lot, was written by none other than Rose Carmine, detailing her life's journey. When Shura found the diary and read it, he learned how Rose Carmine became a witch.
Twenty years ago, the 'red Magi disappearance incident' caused various disasters in Asgardam, leading to significant damage. Not only did it cause destruction, but it also threw the citizens into panic, and soon someone suggested, "This is a curse by the witch Yulirn," which gradually led to the worst kind of mass hysteria known as 'witch hunting.'
The Asgardam royal family took this situation seriously and immediately began to act. This helped calm the witch hunts around Asgardam, but it took time for the response to reach the countryside. Witch hunts also broke out in Joosa, and Rose's mother, Karne, who opposed this trend, was burned at the stake as a witch.
Five-year-old Rose, who was freed by Karne, had to learn to survive on her own. She crawled through days that felt like hell, but eventually, she was discovered by Director Drodo and became the actress she had dreamed of as a child.
One day, Drodo told Rose that she would perform in Joosa.
Rose felt confused. She would have to go back to the town that took her mother away and act there. Even though she felt hatred towards them, she didn't want to do anything. In fact, she didn't want to be reminded of her past in that town at all. So, she decided to drop out of the tour, but Drodo responded with the truth about her mother's death.
The Inquisitorial Council of Joosa owned a white beast called Memento Mori, which could turn the bones of the dead inside it into diamonds. The size of the diamond depended on the pain and suffering the dead person experienced before they died. The old men of the Inquisitorial Council kept this secret to themselves. When townspeople died, they would collect the bodies and turn the bones into diamonds. They even used crushed animal bones in funeral rituals as a substitute, which was a terrible secret.
The Inquisitorial Council stirred up the witch hunts in Joosa to get more diamonds, and they burned Karne at the stake for opposing them.
By the time she realized it, Rose had already chosen to become a Vengeful Witch.
She returned to her hometown and used the wine given to her by Director Drodo... the 'God's Poison' that turns people into beasts, to bring death to Joosa.
The town died, and for every sin, there was a punishment.
And the witch died, taking everything she cursed along with her.
Shura held a diary and visited that valley.
Revenge was fulfilled, and the witch perished in flames.
All that remained was this diary.
Shura quietly lit a fire in her diary.
The diary burned, turned to ash, and scattered in the valley.
After all the revenge, there was finally nothing left.
It felt like the end of her journey, Shura whispered, and the curtain fell on Chapter Two.
How was it?
In the original story, Chapter Two ended with a complete disaster, but because of that, the current route shows how little damage there is.
Let's point out the differences...
- Rose survived instead of dying. She has a strong obsession with Hiiro and decides to find out the true identity of Director Drodo, who tricked her.
- The Inquisitorial Council members all survived. They were judged by the knight order and given heavy sentences.
- All the townspeople of Joosa survived. Later, they built a cemetery in Joosa. By the way, the cemetery is on the site of the Carmine family. During this, they found Rose's diary and faced their mistakes again.
- The Wagner theater troupe survived, except for Director Drodo. After Drodo's death, the theater troupe disbanded.
- Powell remains imprisoned, and the captain is now Shidou.
- Shura's awakening is noticeable. The current Shura can use the flames of Lævateinn, but it's not strong enough to swallow half the town.
- Shura still can't let go of her hatred for beasts, but her attitude towards the white beast has softened compared to the original story.
- Shura's purpose in life is slowly changing from revenge to something else.
- Thanks to Hiiro, Lyam has more peace of mind. However, this also seems to bring more struggles.
There are many other small points, but these are the main highlights.
Wow, when you line them up like this, the story feels completely different. It's uncertain how much these differences will impact the future. Especially with Rose still alive, her next moves will definitely be worth watching.
Let's wrap it up here.
Thank you for sticking around for so long.
Alright everyone, see you in the next chapter.
Okay, goodbye.
