Volume 3 Chapter 50 Chris - Death Is Coming

Volume 3 Chapter 50 Chris - Death Is Coming

This is a fate given to everyone.

No matter who you are, you can't escape from 'death.'

But you shouldn't be afraid. It's a message for the next life and a hug from the goddess.

Just be careful. If 'death' shows up in front of you, it might be a beast that announces death.

This beast appears to those who have done bad things and have been abandoned by the goddess. Its name is──

Source: Scripture Volume 1 'Life and Death'

The man who was in a headlock had his neck broken exactly 5 seconds later and fell into the alley. Chris, who was watching this death, didn't realize that he felt nothing about 'death' for the first time.

Before he could understand the change in his heart, he realized that his understanding was too naive.

The way he broke the man's neck without hesitation.

He did it as easily as breaking a dry branch.

And even now, he showed no regret about it.

All of this was beyond Chris's expectations of a man named Randolph Victor. But Chris didn't know Randy's true strength.

No, he might have misjudged because of Randy's bare robe and his painful-looking right hand.

Anyway, Chris still had a little bit of confidence. Even now, he could think about various things while facing Randy, who was looking at him.

 "What, what is it?"

"You... you're a student from the academy, right?"

Chris was thinking about how to respond to Randy, who frowned.

Should he say he was a student and was attacked by thugs?

Or... Chris thought about it, but since Randy probably saw his face, he nodded slightly, realizing that he couldn't make up a good excuse.

"I was being chased by those guys──."

"That's a lie. You jumped out of the glass back there."

Randy smirked, and Chris's face twisted slightly.

"So, a student pretending to be an assassin?"

With a sigh, Randy waited for Chris's response, but Chris couldn't answer. No, he couldn't. He should think that part of their earlier conversation was overheard. This means that Randy probably heard that Chris led those guys to that place.

So he couldn't answer. If he did, it would confirm him as the mastermind, and there was no doubt he would end up like the man lying on the ground.

While Chris stayed silent, Randy lifted him up with one hand. Randy grabbed him by the neck like a cat, and Chris, confused, started to squirm.

 "Take me to their hideout."

Randy said it casually, and Chris, being lifted, frowned.

"Huh? No way! I'm not going to a place like that to die──."

Chris opened his mouth to say that, but he shut it quickly, turning pale. Randy's eyes, looking at him, were terrifyingly cold.

Chris could feel his teeth chattering from the intense killing intent.

 (I completely misjudged... this is──)

He realized that Randy was not someone he should mess with. Before he could think more, Randy spoke.

"Please... I'm hungry. I want to finish this quickly."

He said "please," but his eyes seemed to say, "This is an order."

Chris could only nod silently. It felt scarier than facing a group of assassins.

 "Alright. Then guide me."

With Randy's mood suddenly changing, Chris, wide-eyed, told him where the hideout would likely be.

* * *

 "...Hey. There's no one here."

Randy looked annoyed, and Chris quickly shook his head.

This was already the third hideout location. Since the attacks had failed, there were no idiots hiding in places Chris knew. This was also true for the meeting point after the operation.

"Uh, the only ones left are..."

Muttering to himself, Chris thought, "They definitely wouldn't be at the headquarters," while his mind raced. Randy, losing patience, lifted Chris up in front of him again.

 "We're going to that headquarters."

 "N-no. They can't be that stupid──."

"Shut up. Anyone who gets paid to be an assassin is definitely stupid."

Randy made a noise with his nose, and Chris had no choice but to head to the usual place in the slums.

It was already past midnight, and there were hardly any people in the alleys. The closer they got to the slums, the more obvious it became... the dark alleys looked like the entrance to a pit.

Chris swallowed hard. "This is it," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

 "What? They're home?"

Randy, who was grinning next to him, didn't realize that Chris misunderstood his words. Chris thought "home" just meant the receptionist on the first floor, not the people hiding in the dark guild below.

 "No, it's just──."

Chris was about to say it was just the receptionist, but Randy pulled him along and kicked the door open.

 "Y-you! In someone's house──."

Randy grabbed an old man with missing teeth, who was spitting everywhere.

 "Shut up. Don't talk──."

Without hesitation, Randy broke the old man's neck and dragged him as he opened the door to the basement, disappearing inside without looking back at Chris, saying, "See ya, thanks for the tour."

* * *

Randy left Chris behind because it didn't matter if he ran away or not. Because the Marquis family surrounded the building.

Randy knew Chris had brought the dark guild people to that spot. He had heard the whole conversation.

He wasn't going to ask why they were in such a place.

At that moment, in that place. And the dark guild's assassins.

That meant they were targeting Randy and his group, who had been figuring out the 'Seven Wonders' for the past few days. He guessed they mistakenly attacked Catherine and her group.

For Randy, it didn't matter why they were targeting them or who Chris was.

So, just like the people in the basement, he could kill Chris if he wanted to...

But for Cedric and the others, Chris was an important person. He had some status──based on his clothes, he looked like he was from a high background──and since he was a student, he must have guardians behind him.

If that's the case, it wasn't Randy's job. Even if Chris was being targeted, he couldn't just kill him without solid proof. It would be better to hand him over to the Marquis and use him for various deals.

Cedric and Marquis Lucian would handle things well.

So, Chris didn't matter to him anymore.

Randy slowly went down the stairs to the basement, dragging the old man. With each step, the old man's lifeless feet thudded on the stairs, making loud noises.

Since he made noise getting there, the people behind the door seemed ready for a fight. Even though there might be a back door to escape, everyone was waiting because only Randy was there.

 (I'm glad I came alone.)

If he had come with a group, they would have scattered and run away. For now, it looked like he wouldn't have to play tag in the night streets, so Randy threw the old man toward the door.

The old man crashed through the door and rolled into the center of the basement.

"Hey... is it okay to say nice to meet you?"

Inside, Randy found many men already waiting with weapons in hand.

 "You..."

Randy didn't recognize the bearded man who frowned at him. He didn't know him, but judging by their reactions, it seemed they were the same guys who had been lurking around recently. Since he had killed everyone who came before, he couldn't match their presence, but he concluded it was definitely them based on their reactions.

"Wow, there are a lot of you."

Randy grinned, held out his left hand, and waved it provocatively.

That seemed to be the signal, as the leader shouted, "Get them!"... and in an instant, several men were blown away.

The thudding sounds were the organs and blood of the men who had been sent flying. The leader and his men, who had no idea what was happening, let out confused sounds like "Huh?"

"Sorry. I just don't want idiots like you coming at me again. I'm going to make it a bit flashy."

 Randy's grin disappeared.

Suddenly, all around, men's heads burst open, and big holes appeared in their bodies.

One man had only his lower half left, while his upper half was blown away.

Another man was smashed against the wall, spilling everything like a crushed tomato.

One man was so destroyed that he was stuck in the ground, with no shape left.

It was a hellish scene filled with screams, but the cries faded away in an instant.

Now, all that could be heard was the sound of blood dripping somewhere, "Splat, splat," echoing in the room.

A hell was created in a moment.

In front of it, the last remaining leader fell to the ground, unable to scream, just shocked.

 "W-what the hell... are you..."

In front of the trembling leader, Randy waved his blood-stained left arm. With a loud "thud," dark red blood splattered on the floor.

 "W-wait a second──"

"Are you stupid? I said this is a warning."

Randy snorted and stepped on the leader's chest as he tried to back away.

Pinned to the ground, the leader shouted, "S-stop it!" but Randy just looked down at him with cold eyes.

"Has anyone ever stopped just because you said 'stop'?"

As Randy coldly spat that out, the leader's face turned pale, and Randy slowly pressed down harder with his foot.

The sounds of bones breaking, flesh squishing, and the leader's screams filled the room... until finally, there was a "crunch" sound, like something being crushed, and then silence fell.

"Well then... I'm going home, but what are you going to do?"

When Randy turned around, he saw Chris standing there, his face pale.

 "I'm... I'm──."

Randy slapped Chris on the shoulder with his bloody hand.

"Honestly, I'd love to kill the client too, but..."

Randy laughed, and Chris looked up, surprised, "Huh?"

"If I do this much, they'll be too scared to pull any stupid tricks."

Chris understood from the deadly look in Randy's eyes. He realized that everything had been seen through, and he was let go because he wasn't worth killing. Realizing this, Chris collapsed to the ground.

"Also, I don't smell any blood on your hands. Play the bad guy at home... kid."

After saying that, Randy left Chris behind.

As Chris let out a dry laugh, "Ha, hahaha," several dark figures appeared around him.

Even surrounded in an instant, Chris's expression didn't change. He just laughed like he was losing his mind.

"It was all just a game... in the end, it was just a game."

With a crazed smile, Chris looked up at the sky and laughed loudly again, "Hahahaha."

"I shouldn't have gotten involved. That was... that was──."

Just a moment ago, Chris was laughing like a madman, but suddenly he started shaking and hugged his own shoulders.

"That was... death itself. No, it was the Beast of Death (Morticus)."

Chris whispered this and continued to tremble, only saying, "Death is coming... the Beast of Death (Morticus) is coming."

Seeing Chris in this broken state, the shadows slightly frowned and looked around at the gruesome scene.

In the church, it is said that the Beast of Death (Morticus) is sent by the goddess at the moment of death.

It doesn't show itself to good people, embracing them gently.

But it shows a terrifying form to bad people.

It is said to carry the lives of good people to the goddess and devour the lives of bad people, a great being.

Seeing the dark guild assassins killed so brutally made even the shadows want to agree with Chris's words.

Still, since they were here, they had to do their job. Leaving behind the still trembling Chris and one shadow, the rest of the shadows quickly scattered.

"The Beast of Death (Morticus)... is──."

It seemed like it would be tough to get Chris to talk normally again.

"Is it really more terrifying than death... I can't believe it exists."

As the shadow muttered this, other shadows appeared, each holding some documents.

 "We have the evidence now."

At the words of the shadow that seemed to be the leader, the others nodded silently.

"Descriptions of the young lady and Sir Randolph... and the request form."

The shadow of the leader checked the evidence and said, "Leave that behind. We'll have it collected in the dark area." They needed to gather information that targeted Liz and Randy from this scene.

Only after the enemy had the right information would Chris be useful.

"I'll take care of you. Don't worry. You'll be treated well."

Chris didn't respond to the shadow's words. Still, the shadow took Chris and left the place. What was left behind was the terrible smell of blood from a gruesome mass murder scene.
