Volume 3 Chapter 27 The Fighting Type Is Ineffective? That's A Different Game

Volume 3 Chapter 27 The Fighting Type Is Ineffective? That's A Different Game

 Void Walker

They say there's a place called the Void between dimensions.

Living beings that cross the Void.

They drag people into the Void with shadowy hands and feed on their souls.

It's said that they serve the Undead King, but no one really knows for sure.

The last sighting was over 3 hundred years ago, when a small country beyond the Empire was destroyed. It's said they pulled a whole knight squad into the Void in an instant.

They can communicate and are high-level undead, but they are very cruel and unpredictable. When that small country fell, they took the knights with them right at the start of the battle.

If you encounter one, pray to the goddess. Hope they get bored and let you go.

Randy dashed through the approaching shadowy hands.

If Luke was protecting everyone outside, there was no need to deal with the shadowy hands like before.

Randy quickly closed the distance and swung his greatsword at the Void Walker.

A sharp metallic sound echoed around.

Unfortunately, the tip of the sword was stopped just a few centimeters above the Void Walker's head by an unseen force.

A shadowy hand struck from the side.

Using the tip of the greatsword as a pivot, Randy flipped over the Void Walker.

As he landed, Randy turned around.

His sideways swing made another loud sound in the room.

 'It's useless...'

The Void Walker's empty eyes looked almost pleased.

While Randy was thinking about that, a shadowy hand stabbed into his side.

Pushed by the shadowy hand, Randy knocked over some tables and chairs and crashed into the wall of the hallway.

Breaking through the wall, Randy kept going and slammed into the hallway wall.

Following him, countless shadowy hands broke through the wall, evaporating the specter and stabbing into Randy.

 "Sir Randolph!"

 "Senior!"

 Screams echoed through the hallway.

From the rising dust, the shadowy hands slowly pulled back... but one stayed stretched out and stopped.

The shadowy hand trembled as if in a power struggle, and with a loud "snap," it was pulled from the void and scattered.

 "Geez..."

Emerging from the swirling dust was Randy, his upper body exposed. Tearing his ripped school uniform, Randy spat out blood mixed with saliva and wiped his slightly cut lips.

Randy looked almost unharmed, and Ellie smiled wryly, saying, "What a ridiculous guy."

"Seriously... just because you're a girl, you think I can take it easy on you?"

Randy cracked his neck and readied his greatsword, resting it on his right shoulder.

"Well, I'll thank you for making the ring wider."

Taking a unique stance, Randy took a deep breath and grinned, saying, "If I can cut you, I'll get stronger again." Then, in an instant, he vanished.

The loud sound was either from Randy jumping or something else.

Randy dropped from above, swinging his greatsword down at the Void Walker.

 Kicking off the floor,

 he landed on the ceiling,

using all his momentum for a second jump.

Randy's powerful strike, boosted by gravity, left all other sounds behind.

Due to the friction with the air, the sword glowed red with heat.

For the first time, the Void Walker moved.

Facing the approaching tip of the sword, it vanished and appeared somewhere else.

Randy's missed strike slammed into the floor, leaving a small crack.

 "Hey, you! Don't run away!"

Randy pointed his greatsword at the Void Walker, but it was only natural for the Void Walker to escape from a potentially dangerous attack. For the first time, the Void Walker sensed danger from that strike.

Watching this exchange from the end of the hallway, Ellie's eyes widened.

"This is ridiculous... just a moment ago?"

From Ellie's perspective, it was impossible for Randy, who couldn't break through the dimensional wall covering the window earlier, to leave a crack in the floor covered by the same dimensional wall. But...

 "Lady Eleonora, that's Randoplh Victor."

Only Luke knows that Randy, the man named Randoplh Victor, has swung his sword more than anyone else to reach this level. He has trained himself relentlessly.

 Trees.

 Rocks.

 Iron.

 Beasts.

 And even the air.

There's nothing Randy has said "Let's cut this" and couldn't cut. It's not just about talent or ability; it's about Randy's determination to keep going until he can cut it. He keeps swinging his sword over and over. He keeps defeating beasts to make himself stronger.

And in the end, he laughs and says, "I'm used to it."

What's happening now, in this life-or-death situation, is just a crazy fast version of that. It shouldn't be possible. Normally, you can't cut through things like this. But still, there's a man who believes in his own potential and keeps challenging the strong ones without hesitation. That's the Randy Luke knows.

(This is crazy... it can't be real. Even if it's a simulation, it's breaking the laws of dimensions!)

Ellie, watching the fight, can't hide her surprise. There's no way something so simple could break through. But right in front of her, she can see a glimpse of it.

"You really are amazing. That's why I don't want to lose to you."

Randy, feeling Luke's gaze, moves closer to the Void Walker.

As the greatsword comes down, the Void Walker disappears again──right where it reappears, Randy kicks.

The Void Walker instinctively crosses its arms to block the flying kick.

The dimensional wall stops the kick, but for Randy, that moment of hesitation is the perfect chance.

Randy spins without losing the momentum of his kick, swinging the greatsword sideways.

The greatsword hits the dimensional wall with a dull sound.

The Void Walker frowns and steps back.

 "That sounded painful."

Randy laughs, and for the first time, the Void Walker's face shows a hint of distortion. But Randy's sword isn't without damage either. The blade, shining faintly, is bent and chipped... it's clear he can't keep hitting it like this.

(I see... it's the dragon's blood. But it's definitely Randy's foolishness, believing in himself and swinging his sword that woke it up──)

Ellie suspects that the secret behind Randy's dimensional slash is the effect of the dragon's blood mixed into his sword. The dragon's blood has magic power on its own and can create strange phenomena. But Ellie thinks that Randy is using sheer force to awaken the sleeping power of the blood, which normally would only create small miracles.

That's the truth. Normally, only a high-level magic or a powerful magical attack can damage the dimensional wall. For someone like Randy, who has only average magical power, that's impossible.

But what makes it possible, just as Ellie guessed, is the dragon's blood that gives the weapon the ability to attack the undead. Even in death, the dragon's blood holds magical power, along with holy water and divine magic. This makes the weapon effective against the undead, but the blood of a living dragon is not just some simple ability.

It can lift massive bodies into the air and create miracles close to those of gods. The dragon's blood is slowly starting to awaken within the sword Randy wields.

The awakened power of the dragon, combined with Randy's incredible strength, is threatening the dimensional wall.

(Will the dragon recognize it, or its blood...)

That might be even harder than cutting through dimensions. It's about shaking the soul of a dead dragon awake.

Watching the fierce battle between the two, Ellie whispers, "...is this what determination looks like?"

After several exchanges, they break apart.

"I was just getting into it, but sorry. I'll finish it next time."

Randy lowers his stance again, resting his sword on his shoulder, while the Void Walker summons its biggest shadow hand from behind.

 The shadow hand moves.

 It lunges at Randy.

Just before it hits, the ground under Randy's right foot explodes.

With a powerful leap that even sends the shadow hand flying, Randy propels himself forward.

 Next, it's a straightforward one-shot battle.

Randy flew straight ahead, and the Void Walker couldn't take it anymore and teleported.

Randy chased after him, landing on a wall and flipping around. Using his senses, Randy took off again. He appeared right in front of the Void Walker without missing a beat.

 "Just die quietly."

Randy charged forward like he was going to break through the floor.

He put all his speed into his sword, making it swing in a big arc towards the Void Walker.

A bright light surrounded them, and a sound like shattering glass echoed.

Was that the wall of dimensions breaking?

 Randy's greatsword snapped in half.

 '...You fool. Now you are──'

 "You're the fool."

Randy grabbed the Void Walker's head with both hands. There was no wall of dimensions left, and as he pulled the head closer, he slammed his head into it.

 "What──."

 "A headbutt?"

 "To a ghost?"

While everyone at the end of the hallway was shocked, the Void Walker swayed a bit after getting hit by Randy's headbutt, losing some color.

 "Alright, one more time!"

With a big smile, Randy threw a punch at the Void Walker.

The dull sound echoed as the Void Walker was sent flying and rolled away.

The Void Walker changed color again, looking faint, but still floated up.

"Not good. I know you're not a girl, but it feels like I'm hitting a girl, so I can't really put my back into it."

Even as he said that, Randy slowly closed the distance. The Void Walker was slowly trying to rebuild the wall of dimensions, muttering, 'You... you──'

 "Not gonna let you!"

Randy threw the broken part of his greatsword.

It made a dull sound as it stabbed into the wall of dimensions.

Randy swung his fist towards it.

Blood started to seep from Randy's fist.

The soft glow of the sword slowly faded away──

(I thought I wouldn't be surprised anymore, but... who knew dragon blood would choose a host?)

In response to Ellie's shocked face, the wall of dimensions cracked again with a loud noise.

"Stop hiding in your shell. Let's play outside together."

With a smile, Randy grabbed both ends of the cracked wall and started to pull it apart.

 'Wait... no way──huh?'

In front of the stunned Void Walker, Randy ripped the wall apart with a loud "crack."

The Void Walker was in bad shape and couldn't hold its strength, but Randy's typical brute force made even Ellie let out a dry laugh, saying, "Ha, ha, ha."

"For now, I'll just close my eyes and punch."

Randy clenched his fist, and the Void Walker couldn't help but shout, 'Wait, wait──'

 "Not waiting."

Randy swung his right fist, making a loud explosive sound that echoed, and the Void Walker's form quickly faded and distorted.

'This... this kind of brute force──'

Leaving behind a bitter remark, the Void Walker vanished into mist.

"Phew, did you see that? I can fight ghost types with fighting types!"

With his chest puffed out, Randy laughed loudly, and everyone watched him with a mix of disbelief and amusement.
