Volume 3 Chapter 14 Catherine - Information Must Always Be Updated, But The Way To Update It Is Even Worse.

 ...I don't understand.

Why? Why is the helper character Luke here!

Right now, I'm in an empty classroom, holding my head in my hands.

After all, I just witnessed an unbelievable scene. Right in front of me, Luke, the helper character from 'Useyaro', was walking with Cecilia dressed as a knight. It was so natural that I couldn't help but do a double take, but there's no mistake. That appearance is definitely Luke.

Not to mention, Cecilia was calling him "Luke."

When our eyes accidentally met, I instinctively jumped into the empty classroom to hide...

Huh? Wait a minute. Why is Luke dressed as a knight?

Isn't Luke supposed to be an adventurer? And what's with "Lady Cecilia"? I seriously don't get it.

Could it be that Cecilia is also a reincarnator?

Is she trying to set me up with Elizabeth?

While I'm doing the tedious food distribution as a Saint, did that guy Luke get captured?

Wait a minute, Luke is a helper character and has a capture route...

 "Ah, I don't get it!"

...I'm so confused that I can't make sense of it. For now, I need to calm down by taking a few deep breaths and hitting my head a couple of times...

Let's sort this out one by one.

Luke should be an adventurer at this time. For some reason, he's become a knight.

Luke was originally a noble. For some reason, he's in the Hartfield family. ...This is still acceptable. He might have left the country as an adventurer and ended up in Hartfield.

We don't know when, where, or what Luke has been doing.

So, did Luke just happen to be in Hartfield?

Or was he summoned to Hartfield?

"This is bad... I'm getting confused again."

This is completely beyond my understanding... I think it's certain that Elizabeth is a reincarnator. After all, she still seems to be attending the academy with ease. This means she must be keeping Eleonora in check somehow.

The only mystery is that she's walking around with a mob I've never seen before. The fiery red-haired guy, I hear, is the son of a Viscount from Dukedom, but in the game, he's the one who gets killed by Eleonora.

What's the point of capturing someone like that?

Ah, I can let that go for now. I don't care about a big guy with low grades. Let's just say Elizabeth likes bad boys. Right now, it's all about Cecilia and Luke.

Cecilia also has the possibility of being a reincarnator.

If only Elizabeth were a reincarnator, she would definitely choose Luke over that big red-haired guy. ...I would absolutely do that.

Or maybe Elizabeth just didn't like Luke.

She didn't fall for Edgar and the others either, so there's a possibility her taste in men is just bad. But even if that's the case, I don't understand why Cecilia would be made to capture Luke. At this point, it seems like Cecilia herself must have done the capturing.

It really seems like Cecilia is the only reincarnator...

I don't get it. I don't get it, but it's a fact that she grasped Luke's movements and captured him. Normally, I wouldn't know Luke's movements or how to capture him. But I have an idea about how to make that possible.

"...Downloadable content. Or a complete edition sales strategy."

That's right. It's that system where content is released after some time from the initial sale.

Additional content to capture popular characters. Or a complete edition that adds various events on top of that.

Since I only know the original version, at least those 2 must be people from a later era than mine. In other words, I was at a disadvantage in terms of information from the start.

 "Elizabethhhhh."

I couldn't help but let out a voice of resentment. But it can't be helped. That woman knew from the beginning that she had the upper hand over me and accepted the broken engagement with that smug face.

All of this, the events collapsing and the scenario breaking down, is all because of her... no, because of them.

This is bad... this is really bad. At this rate, my plan will be completely ruined, and I'll be heading straight for a complete bad end.

"Bad end... I know about it to some extent, but──."

I muttered out of anxiety. I know about the bad ending. This game is oddly fixated on the combat parts, and when I first played it with a random strategy, I got beaten up by Eleonora and ended up with the bad ending.

Catherine and the others who lost to Eleonora died. And the world perished.

That part is normal, but at the very end of the credits, unsettling text appears in the darkness.

 ──Bad Ending A

It's a famous story that everyone who saw that text said, "Useyaro?" The fact that they labeled the bad ending as A means that at least there is a B.

But as far as I know, no one has seen anything other than the so-called A ending.

Even if I somehow stopped Elizabeth's exile at the very beginning, the ending would still be labeled 'Saint Ending'──commonly known as the mob ending.

If Elizabeth's exile doesn't happen, Eleonora won't be released from the shrine's seal. In that case, no matter how much Catherine deepens her bonds with the targets at the academy, her role as a Saint awaits her upon graduation.

To quell the great evil, activities begin where she travels around the world offering prayers. Of course, the ones who will accompany her as guards are not Edgar and the others. It's a nameless mob church knight who will be with her.

Thus, it's called the mob ending.

But it's not bad ending B. ...It is a bad ending for me, though.

Anyway, despite various people searching around, bad ending B was ultimately never found. Rumors said it would be "unlocked in additional content" or "a key item is somewhere," but as far as I know, it never went beyond the realm of rumors.

In the end, because no one could find it, it was settled that it was a remnant of when the developers tentatively labeled each ending as A, B, and C, meaning it was just a forgotten text deletion...

"What if Luke's route was additional content, and bad ending B was added at the same time──."

I would end up trembling at the thought of an unknown bad ending.

"Oh no... how do I avoid it?"

I don't even know the choices, and there's a possibility that I might already be on that route...

"...Maybe I should just ask them──."

No, that's not good. Even if I did that, they might not tell me the truth. In fact, they would probably just dodge the question and leave it at that.

"Think, Cathy... how to crush their plans──."

A way to crush the route leading to my ruin...

 "Wait, crush?"

That's right. Why didn't I realize this sooner? It's simple. I just need to crush it.

"If I just crush the event they're doing, that should work."

I really am sharp. As expected of the protagonist. If this isn't the scenario I know, then I can just mess everything up.

Once that's decided, I will throw away all the scenarios I knew.

I will definitely show Elizabeth and Cecilia what I can do. I am the true protagonist. I will absolutely crush whatever they plan to do next. Because what Elizabeth does is a move that corners me and leads to the new bad ending.

Just watch... I'll stick around for a while. This time, I will crush what you all are trying to do.

Now that it's decided, I should consult everyone.

It's about time to seek a divine revelation, so I'll spend some time after school in the cathedral offering prayers. After that, I'll arrange for someone to keep an eye on Elizabeth and the others... and at the best timing, I'll mobilize everyone by saying, "The divine revelation has come" to crush the event.

Sure, Luke is quite a strong support character, but he's just a downgraded Edgar. And on our side, we have the magic genius Dario, Chris who can normally deal a lot of damage, and Arthur who won't lose to anyone in swordsmanship.

Thinking about it that way, I can understand why Elizabeth and the others were sneaking around to crush the dull events.

If we confronted them head-on, there's no way we could win against them now.

Alright, it's settled... this time, I'll hit them with a counter. What you all are trying to do, I will smash it to pieces.

 "Alright."

Once the policy is decided, the confusion from earlier feels like a lie. On the contrary, I want to praise myself for how well I've fought with such a handicap until now.

You messed up. By showing off Luke at this timing, you will trip me up!

I burst out of the empty classroom with energy, and a few bystanders are watching me, but I ignore them, just ignore them. There's no way a bunch of nobodies can do anything to me.

"Well then, my mind is clear now... I think I'll head back to everyone."

As I start walking with my usual Saint smile, even the shining sun in the sky seems to be blessing me.

Now that I understand their strategy and what they rely on, there's no way I have any openings left.

It's a guaranteed win, thank you very much!
