Volume 2 Chapter 5 Catherine - Not Wanting To Admit Failures And Mistakes

*This is from an angry perspective, so I've made it seem incoherent on purpose.

 I'm so mad.

 I'm really mad.

 I'm super mad!

"That greasy old man. I'm definitely going to make him pay."

I accidentally let those words slip out, and I quickly shut my mouth and looked around. It would be a disaster if someone heard me. After all, I'm currently walking in the hallway of the grand cathedral in the royal capital.

There are many reasons to be mad, but the biggest one is definitely that Elizabeth. Because she came back, everything is getting weird.

Just earlier, when I asked the old pope, "Why is Lady Elizabeth back?" he casually replied,

──"Well, I can't really interfere with the laws of the kingdom."

What? Is he stupid? He bullied a Saint! The church should protest more about this.

He's always taking bribes, so he's useless at times like this.

 "Ugh. So annoying──."

Whoa, that was close. A priest. For now, I just need to smile and bow my head. I watched the priest pass by as I bowed my head in return, letting out a sigh of relief.

"The church is fine for now. I'll take control of it eventually."

In the dim hallway, I took a deep breath to calm myself.

I already knew the church was corrupt from the game, and I'm supposed to clear out the pigs in the side quest 'Purify the Corrupt Church' and rebuild it. But for now, I need them to fatten my own pockets.

It doesn't make sense to rob a poor organization.

Because, you know, it takes a lot of money to rebuild, right? I need to make my room luxurious, and I want to redesign my clothes to be cute... So for now, I'll have them gather money for me.

Besides, if I destroy it now, I'd be in trouble too. It's frustrating, but with my current power, I need the support of this organization. But when the time comes, I'll at least show some mercy and take it down quickly.

Once I become independent as a Saint, I won't need that greasy old man anymore.

Oh, I just remembered! I also need the church to have a gatekeeper.

A gatekeeper to hide the dungeon under the church.

I'll be able to access that around the same time as the side quest, and my special equipment, the [Cursed Staff], is stored there. At first, it's weak equipment, but when I use the purification light I learn later, it becomes the [Saint's Staff].

That's my ultimate equipment. It greatly enhances my light magic and could be considered a special weapon just for dealing with Elizabeth.

Normally, that's an event that happens later in the game, so there's no need to rush about the gatekeeper or anything...

"...The fact that she came back means──."

I couldn't help but let that thought slip out. Because I had sensed it back then but let it go.

 "──She's also a reincarnator, right?"

The strange feeling when I kicked Elizabeth out. If I had questioned that strange feeling back then, which was completely different from the game, I might have been able to handle Elizabeth better.

But it's too late to regret. After all, Elizabeth has come back.

What this means is that she's also a reincarnator. For a final boss to be a reincarnator, she must be after my strongest gear. Because with that, the heroine will become super strong.

So right now, I need Elizabeth to act as a guard at the church to stop her.

That dungeon is tough, especially after the mid-game. There's no way my friends and I can handle it now. We need to level up everyone's abilities quickly.

And the scenario too. The closest event is probably Dario's.

This weekend, his fiancé candidate (almost a fiancé) Cecilia will confront Dario.

──"Dungeons are good, but shouldn't we focus on more important things?"

 Something like that.

Dario is working hard for me and for the world.

But it's fine. Instead of his foolish fiancé who doesn't understand, I'll comfort Dario and we'll get a little closer.

This is a key event for the Dario route. Dario and the others are already head over heels for me, but I want to keep the key events in check.

The power of love I have will also help everyone, and besides, it's an otome game, right? It makes no sense to miss out on the excitement with the handsome guys.

The event will happen after we return from the dungeon, so it's perfect timing to level everyone up. The only difference is that in the scenario, it's just Dario and the knights exploring. In the game, the event happens in the evening, but since we're at it, I can invite everyone along.

I need to add a little essence and keep Elizabeth in check too.

 ...Yes, that's the best plan.

Recently, Cecilia has been chatting with her, and she's definitely trying to ruin this event.

It's revenge for embarrassing her in front of everyone. I'll show her that I'm better. I'm better in every way. In looks, brains... and even with guys!

Elizabeth's guy... just thinking about him makes me mad. He's probably from the Viscount family that picked up Elizabeth in the story, but it's so sad that she's with someone like him. (laughs)

I hear he's just big and not impressive at all.

His face... well, it might be okay. But a poor Viscount who can't get ahead is just right for Elizabeth.

What's this? When I think about it, he's not that great. If I think that way, maybe this annoyance will get a little better.

 My position as a Saint.

The specs of the guys around me.

And my own knowledge and abilities.

None of these can be beaten by Elizabeth.

"I'll definitely make her eat her words."

With my spirits lifted and my steps lightened, I hurried through the cathedral.

For now, I need to tell Dario to take me with him if he's going to the dungeon. It should be an E-rank dungeon near the royal capital. While watching everyone shine, I'll plan how to defeat Elizabeth.

* * *

"Hey kid, are you going to the dungeon tomorrow?"

"Hey, don't come to a guy's room in the middle of the night..."

Randy, holding his head in frustration, watched as Ellie laughed lightly, saying, "Don't worry about it." But it was actually Randy who was worried, and he swallowed the words that almost came out.

Instead of getting into a pointless argument, Randy chose to keep the conversation moving.

"I'm planning to go, but it's just an E-rank dungeon nearby, right?"

As Randy furrowed his brows, he was right; with his adventurer rank, he could only explore E-rank dungeons.

"You're an idiot. Wasting time in a place like that is pointless."

With a mocking smile, Ellie made Randy pout and say, "But still..." There weren't any high-rank dungeons nearby, and even if Ellie could teleport, they would just get stopped at the checkpoint at the dungeon entrance.

"What if I told you there's an ancient underground temple sleeping beneath the grand cathedral in the central capital?"

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. That's way too tempting!"

As Randy leaned forward, Ellie grinned mischievously and began to talk about the hidden back roads to get there.
