Chapter 46 Hauchi Of Korghi Village
"Thanks for coming! Shura... and you too, big brother, please come again!"
"Uh, yeah..." (What does 'big brother' even mean...?)
As I pushed through the shop door, the cheerful voice of the shopkeeper followed me in. The little bell jingled as I entered.
The sky was clear, with a hint of orange as snack time approached. I got everything I wanted from the shop that Shura told me about.
It was great to be inside, but the shopkeeper was a bit strange. Even though I looked like this, they talked to me super friendly.
Their way of speaking was slow and relaxed, which was nice.
And they were really cute. Almost like they were from another world. They reminded me a bit of Goddess Norn.
"...Smooth-talking shopkeepers are the worst. That one wouldnt shut up about their products." (That shopkeeper was really friendly. They were super cute too.)
"That's not something someone who got tricked into buying extra stuff should say."
"Tch. I only let my guard down 'cause you like the place. Thought you hated crowded, noisy spots."
"I don't. But the selection and quality are good, so I had to deal with it."
But even though we finished shopping, the mood between us wasn't very bright. The shopkeeper had kept the conversation going, but now it felt heavy.
Well, it would be weird for just the two of us to have a cheerful atmosphere anyway. It was clear which one of us was making things feel heavier.
"I'm done here, so I'm heading back."
As I followed her, I thought about what happened after we met up. Shura had been our guide, but she had become really quiet.
She probably had some thoughts about what happened at the request office.
Even though she was talking a bit more now, when we first joined up, she only replied with one or 2 words.
It was a delicate way of shutting me out, not fitting for a strong girl trying to hide old wounds.
(She's a main character, so she must have some complicated past or something... What should I do?)
They say breaking down walls is part of being a hero, but I wasn't sure if I should step in.
If I pried too much, it could lead to a fight.
With someone like Quollio, I could push through without hesitation, but with Shura, even though she was my rival, I couldn't just go for it.
While I was stuck in my thoughts, I realized we had returned to the main street.
"Hey! You two, wait a second!"
"...?"
"Oh."
At the entrance to the main street, we were suddenly called out to.
"Um, you are... Ms. Eshurareze, right?"
"Yes, but..."
A mysterious woman was confirming Shura's name as if she was desperate.
It didn't seem like she knew Shura, and I definitely didn't know her either.
But I recognized the urgency in her voice.
(Huh? Isn't she the one from earlier...?)
She wore worn-out green clothes and had sunken cheeks. She looked really desperate.
No doubt about it. She was the woman who had been arguing at the request office.
"I'm Hauchi. I'm the village head of Korghi Village, about ten miles (16km) northeast from here."
The woman named Hauchi took Shura's hand, who looked a bit startled, and with her red, swollen eyes, she pleaded.
"I heard you are a skilled knight! Please, please save my village... Korghi Village!"
