Volume 9 Chapter 1 New Equipment
It had been about ten days since Kaya returned from Yamato.
Kaya went back to her family home and took over the family business. So, she dropped out of school. She didn't tell her dorm mates because saying goodbye was too painful. She explained it that way and convinced them... although some didn't really accept it.
Sophia would likely give a detailed report to the academy. Of course, this would include the news of Kaya's death.
Sophia explained everything: that the 'Fire Gem' from Yamato had already been taken by Adrazione, that Yamato was now a complete enemy, and that they had defeated one of the priests.
The involved parties, Elk and Yato, were enjoying their school life, attending regular classes.

One day, Elk was called by Emma and Nickes.
"Mr. Elk, we finally finished it!!"

They were called to an empty room in the dorm, and what they were shown was... a new combat outfit.
It was Elk's combat outfit, redesigned with new materials and equipment.
Sylphid, who was perched on Elk's head, shouted.
"Wow!! It looks cool!!"

"Yeah!! Man, it was tough. So, Elk... can I explain it now?"
"Y-yeah."
Elk's new combat outfit.
The long black coat had a hood, and a crow emblem was engraved on the back.
The material was a hybrid of orichalcum fiber and reinforced Damascus steel thread. With these two materials, it could defend against slashes, impacts, and bullets. It was also very flexible, weighing and moving like regular clothing.
The gauntlets covered from the hands to the elbows. They had hidden blades built into them, which would pop out for stabbing and slashing when the hands were bent.
On the upper arms, the right had a foldable short bow, and the left had a gun. The material of the gauntlets was also upgraded, making them very sturdy.
The long boots had a hidden knife called a 'toe blade' built into the soles. The knife would spring out from the toe area, becoming a deadly weapon during kicks.
The mask revealed only the left eye, had a gas mask for the mouth, and sunglasses for the right eye to protect against bright light. By showing only the left eye, it also created an intimidating effect on opponents.
"Phew... th-that's it. The explanation is done."
"O-okay. To sum it up, you changed the materials and added blades to the feet, right?"
"Don't skip over it!! Seriously, it was a lot of work! Emmy was worried about you when you went to Yamato and wanted to make a new combat outfit."
"Wah wah wah!! M-Mr. Nickes!!"
"Oh, that was a secret. My bad, my bad."
Nickes smirked and playfully slapped Elk on the head.
They both thought he was definitely doing it on purpose.
Nickes then said with a serious face.
"Well, a lot happened in Yamato, right...? If you have good equipment, it can protect your life when it matters. Well, it's my old man's order, so I'll make sure to support you."
"...Nickes."
"I hope Kaya is doing well."
"......Yeah."
Nickes probably knew.
Elk didn't gather information; he just sensed it somehow.
He wouldn't be able to see Kaya again... So, Elk answered vaguely.
"Thanks, Nickes. And... Emma."
"Yeah."
"Yes, Mr. Elk."
Elk stared at his new combat uniform and muttered softly.
"'Scarecrow'... an assassin, huh?"
That night, Elk was summoned by the Principal, Poseidon.

Elk was called into Poseidon's room.
Usually, Vice Principal Elshi would be there, but today it was just Poseidon.
Poseidon looked very tired.
"First, I have some tough news... Demiurgos was killed by priest Lolofaldo."
"What?"
"And Cagliostro. He was killed by priest Piasola, and the 'Wind Gem' he was protecting was stolen."
