Volume 8 Chapter 5 Arrival In Yamato
"Yo, ho, here we go!"
Elk sat on the railing of the deck, moving his arms toward the sea.
As Elk waved his arms, fish jumped out of the water and into the tank on the deck.
Just by moving his right and left hands alternately, fish leaped from the ocean... of course, it was because of his Telekinesis. It was not fishing; it was Telekinesis fishing.
It was a simple task of catching the fish he could see with his Telekinesis.
However... to the sea men, Elk's way of catching fish was impressive.
"Whoa!!"
"Is this good enough? I can get more if you need."
"No, no, this is plenty!! Haha, I'm surprised. There are many people who fish with the skill 'Fisherman,' but I never thought someone would lift them with Telekinesis."
Eivor was impressed.
In the tank, there were over 20 fish of various sizes. Naturally, the fish would be the crew's meal.
Eivor took out some bills from his pocket and handed them to Elk.
"Here, buy the fish with this money. You can use it as pocket money in Yamato."
"Huh!? No, no, I don't need it."
"That's not an option."
Eivor looked at Elk seriously, with a straight gaze.
"Sea men dislike charity. Besides, this is a fair reward for your work. If you won't accept it, then we won't take the fish either."
"But... I just saw the crew fishing and thought it would be easy with Telekinesis."
Elk had only tried it because he thought it would be simple after watching the crew. Before he knew it, a crowd had gathered around him, and a large tank had been prepared, so he just went along with it.
Eivor patted Elk on the shoulder.
"Take it. Besides, everyone wants to get a reward."
"......"
The crew members nodded at Elk.
Elk accepted the reward from Eivor and put it into his item box wallet.
"Alright!! You guys, carry this fish to the kitchen!!"
"""""Got it!!"""""
Strong men lifted the tank and headed inside the ship.
Eivor smiled widely and followed behind.
Then, Sophia, Yato, and Kaya arrived. It seemed they had been watching from a distance.
"Um, Miss Sophia... here."
"Take it. As I said before, that is a fair reward earned by your hard work, Elk."
"Well, it was more like playing than working... right?"
Yato chuckled softly, so Elk silently protested.
Sophia looked out at the sea as she spoke.
"Still... you're lucky. Even though we should have encountered sea monsters, none have appeared."
"Ah, then it's probably fine."
"Huh?"
"I set up a field with my Telekinesis. I think no large monsters can come within about 100 meters (328ft) of this ship. I made it like a net, so smaller fish can probably get through."
"...I-I see."
The technique named Telekinesis by Pipina.
It creates a wall that rejects events using 'nen' power, called 'Absolute Rejection Barrier (Aigis Palas Athena).' So far, only Pipina has broken through this defense.
Sophia thought again.
"Miss Sophoa, can we buy souvenirs in Yamato?"
Elk.
He is truly unfathomable.
The skill is said to be 'Telekinesis,' but that's just impossible. In the first place, Telekinesis doesn't have any effects like creating a field. Yet Elk is doing it. Saying, "My skill is Telekinesis" is a lie that even a child wouldn't believe, but he doesn't seem to be lying at all.
He's a confusing student, but he's not a bad person.
"If there's space in the item box, let's do some shopping at the port. After work in the capital of Yamato, 'Kushinada,' we can relax a bit."
"Yay! Hey, Kaya, do you know any good shops?"
"Yes. I know some places for local specialties and a nice tea house."
"Hmm, I'm getting excited. Right, Yato?"
"You really are a child."
"U-ugh, shut up. It's not a big deal."
Just as Elk said... the ship arrived at the port of Yamato without encountering any monsters.
* * *
The ship safely reached the port of Yamato.
The crew started unloading the cargo, maintaining and inspecting the ship, and loading new goods. Some of them encouraged Elk and the others with "Good luck!"
Eivor spoke to Sophia.
"We'll stay for a maximum of 2 weeks. Please make sure to come back by then, okay?"
"Sure. Unless something unexpected happens, we can be back within a week."
"Alright, then be careful──though I think you know this, don't let your guard down."
"Yes."
The last word was spoken so quietly it was almost inaudible.
Elk tilted his head, but Yato and Kaya had already noticed.
Of course, Sophia did too.
Eivor looked at Elk and smiled brightly.
"Good luck, Elk. Make sure not to let your guard down."
"Yes, thank you..."
Eivor waved lightly and returned to the ship. Sophia spoke to Elk and the others.
"First, let's have lunch. After that, we will head to the capital of Yamato, 'Kushinada'."
"Okay."
"Um..."
"Ms. Kaya, is there a place to eat at this port?"
"Yes. There's a fisherman's diner. At this time, there should be hardly anyone there... I'll guide you."
Kaya started walking ahead.
Yato followed, and Sophia gave Elk a light pat on the shoulder.
"We can talk later."
"...Got it."
They headed to an inn a little away from the port. There were many restaurants in this area.
Elk noticed that the buildings were different from those in the Galatinne Kingdom.
"There are a lot of wooden structures. Also, the clothes the residents are wearing are unique..."
"Those are traditional Yamato outfits, kimonos."
"Kimonos... they look kind of hard to walk in. Don't they wear pants?"
"That's hakama. It's an island nation across the sea, so it's normal for the culture to be different... Just adapt without asking too many questions."
"Okay, okay."
Yato said casually.
Kaya checked one diner and opened the door.
"A table for 4, please."
"Welcome! Please take a seat at the available table."
They sat at a simple table for 4.
Elk was surprised when hot tea was served first.
"Oh, tea...? It's kind of green."
"That's green tea. If you want water, it's in that bottle over there. But first, let's order."
"Um... where's the menu?"
"This. Can you read Yamato?"
"..."
"Sigh... then, let's just go with seafood donburi, okay?"
"Uh, okay... thanks, Yato."
They ordered 4 seafood donburi.
What arrived was a bowl of rice topped with various slices of fish.
Yato and Kaya poured some black liquid over it and started eating right away.
"W-What is this black stuff...?"
"Soy sauce. I won't explain it anymore, so just remember everything you're curious about and look it up at the library when we get back."
"Ugh... I guess I'll just not worry about it."
"Hehe, soy sauce... it's really delicious, you know. There are hardly any places that sell it in the Galatinne Kingdom."
It seemed Sophia knew about it too.
Kaya and Yato looked satisfied. Elk also tried the seafood bowl.
"Ugh, it's so good... Is raw fish this tasty!!"
"Sashimi is part of Yamato country's culture. I thought you might hate it."
"No, it's really good."
Elk was hungry, so he quickly finished the seafood bowl.
To his surprise, drinking green tea after the meal tasted incredibly good.
For a while, he enjoyed the tea... and then he asked Sophia.
"Um, Miss Sophia... since we got here, I've been feeling a strange presence."
"I don't think you need to worry. It's probably an assassin from the Yamato government."
"What?"
"They've likely already been informed about us by the government."
Sophia sipped her green tea and let out a satisfied sigh.
"Well then, shall we head to the capital of Yamato, 'Kushinada'?"
