Volume 18 Chapter 3 Passion Rabbit Pavilion
Title: 18-3 (Passion Rabbit) restaurant
"How about we eat here tonight?"
After shopping at several stores, including the Levy merchant guild, Al and Orson arrived at a restaurant called the Passion Rabbit restaurant. It seems like it also has a place to stay since there's a lodging counter in the back.
The building is about the same size as the Red-Faced Sheep restaurant, where Al usually stays in the border city of Lester. When they walked in, the place was pretty busy, and there was only one table available.
It smelled like something was being grilled, and there was a lot of smoke in the air.
"Oh, it smells great. Just walking in makes me hungry."
"Yeah, right? The roasted wild rabbit here is amazing."
As they sat at the table, Orson sniffed the air. A waiter came over to them.
"Hey, Al?"
The waiter seemed to remember Al.
"Hi! Long time no see. How's everyone doing?"
"Yeah, we're doing well. You look good too, Al. Since you moved, it's been tough to get rabbit meat. The manager's hair is getting thinner because of it."
The waiter said this with a grin. While Al was in middle school in the capital, catching rabbits to deliver here was an important way for him to make money.
After delivering the rabbits, he sometimes got leftovers or meals in return, which helped him get along well with the manager and the staff.
"Really? I did tell the adventurer guild people about some hunting spots before I left the capital."
"Well, not everyone has your hunting skills. Is this guy your senior?"
The waiter glanced at Orson.
"Yeah, this is Orson. He's been teaching me a lot in border city Lester."
"Oh, that's great!"
The waiter smiled widely. Orson nodded back.
"By the way, have you been able to explore those ancient ruins you wanted to check out?"
The waiter asked with a nostalgic look. Did they talk about exploring that much? Al looked puzzled, and the waiter chuckled.
"Every time you delivered rabbits, you'd say, 'I'm saving up to buy a new spellbook and go to the ancient ruins'."
"Really? Did I say that much?"
"Yep, every single time."
Orson, who was listening, chuckled softly.
"Ah, if I keep talking too much, the manager will get mad. Unfortunately, we're out of rabbits right now, but today's special is roasted pheasant or pigeon."
"Oh, they have pheasant. Let's go with that. And some wine, something not too expensive that you recommend."
The waiter nodded and went back to the kitchen after taking Al's order.
"Wow, I heard you didn't have much money in middle school, but I didn't know you were hanging out in places like this."
Orson said, impressed.
"Yeah, in the capital, there aren't many goblins around. I mostly made money from hunting and gathering. I hunted a lot of rabbits, partridges, and quails. Big game like deer or wild boars were tough to deal with after hunting because you had to break them down and carry them."
Al thought to himself that having the Carrier spell back then would have made things easier. Of course, he didn't have the money to buy that spellbook.
On the way to border city Lester, he met Naresh and Guildmaster Levy, helped them out, and got a reward, which allowed him to buy the spellbook. That's when his luck started to change.
Meeting Orson, who was sitting right in front of him, was also a good thing. He learned a lot from him and made quite a bit of money.
"Let's make a toast. To the goddess of fate, Ruud."
Al picked up the cup of wine that had just been brought to them.
"Yeah, I'm thankful too. To the goddess of fate Ruud, and the sun god Pyros."
Orson also happily raised his cup.
"Thanks for everything, Al."
"Thanks to you too, Orson."
The food arrived. It was roasted pheasant with salt and spices, and a garlic pheasant and vegetable stew.
"Oh, everything looks delicious!"
Orson exclaimed. The waiter smiled and nodded.
"The manager said he'll come see you later."
"Yeah, still busy as always."
When Al was delivering rabbits and other things, the manager was handling everything by himself.
Of course, there were people to wash dishes, but it seems the manager couldn't find anyone he was happy with to help with cooking. While talking about this, new customers came in. It was 2 older men.
"Welcome. Ah, this is a problem. There are no empty tables. Where should I ask to share a table?"
The waiter muttered this while looking around the restaurant. Al recognized the faces of the two men who just walked in. They were Lord Duran, the knight he met at the hot spring in Clarence Village, and his squire, Heath.
"Orson, that guy is a knight, but he's a friendly person I know. Is it okay if I invite him to share a table?"
Al asked quietly. Orson replied casually, "Of course."
"If it's okay with them, then it's fine."
Al told the waiter in a low voice.
The waiter hesitated at first because that man seemed to be an important person in disguise, but when Al explained that he actually knew him, the waiter relaxed and nodded.
"Sir Duran, Sir Heath, I'm sorry, but we're fully booked. Would you mind sharing a table with them?"
The two noticed Al and looked surprised at first, but then they smiled and walked over to the table.
"Well, well, aren't you the boy who served us delicious meat at the hot spring about 6 months ago? What a coincidence!"
"Yeah, what a coincidence. How have things been on your end?"
Heath spoke up first. It seemed they remembered him. Since their location might be confidential, Al just said "on your end."
While talking, Al moved next to Orson, shifting the food in front of them to make space for the two to eat.
"Thank you. Ah, things are still a bit chaotic. It might get worse. If only I had a magician as good as your grandpa, I'd feel more at ease."
Lord Duran said this with a wry smile as he took a seat. Heath sat down next to him and ordered the same food they were eating from the staff.
"Worse? No way?"
Could it be that a war with the Tempest Kingdom is about to start...?
