Volume 15 Chapter 4 Consultation At The Research Tower Part Ii

"Well then, it's finally time to analyze this..."

Al moved to the work area on the first floor of the tower with Malachi the Golem and took out a small magic tool from a hidden pocket in his clothes. It looked like an old metal button, about 2 centimeters (0.8in) in diameter.

It was about 2 millimeters thick. He placed the magic tool on the workbench and carefully pinched it between his left index finger and right thumb, applying pressure as he slowly rotated it. The button began to turn and split into 2 thin layers.

On the inside, it only appeared to have intricate decorations that could barely be seen with the naked eye.

"Sir Al has been saying it's small, small, but it really is tiny."

 Malachi the golem remarked.

"I got some information about this magic tool from the Goblin assistant device, but I didn't realize it was this size."

He paused, studying the object thoughtfully.

"This is the magic tool called a magnifying glass that Sir Tempest used when reading and writing the Golem's magic circuit, but at this size, it might be hard to see properly."

As he spoke, Malachi took out a black square box, about 20 centimeters (8in) on each side, with a long stick attached to it that was about a meter (39in) long. The end of the stick had a round hemisphere.

He pressed the round hemisphere at the end of the stick against the workbench, and it stuck to the surface, allowing the stick to stand upright. Once Malachi confirmed this, he moved the box part.

It seemed that the long stick was designed to bend freely to support the box.

"This side of the box is the control panel. If you press here, it will activate."

Malachi the Golem pressed a spot on the upper left side with his finger. Suddenly, the black surface in front of them became transparent, revealing the surface of the workbench.

"Please arrange the magic tools on the workbench."

Al followed the instructions and placed the two-button-shaped magic tools with their insides facing up on the shiny white cloth that Malachi had spread out on the workbench.

Malachi brought the reading magic tool box closer to the button-shaped magic tools. Then, he operated the side of the box, and the surface of the button-shaped magic tools gradually enlarged.

What had looked like intricate decorations inside now appeared to be more than just decoration; it seemed to be a combination of geometric shapes, like round dots and lines.

However, Malachi shook his head slightly.

"This is 16 times... the limit of magnification with this magic tool. It looks like a circuit, but even so, the symbols are small, and interpretation seems difficult. There's no helping it. As for how to use it..."

As Malachi spoke, Al silently held back his excitement. His eyes were shining.

"Wow, it looks so big now. With this..."

 'Sensory Boost'--Enhanced Vision

"Glee... look, it's amazing... like this..."

Al murmured. But there was no response. Glee's assistant device was still hanging around the neck of the doll golem from their earlier conversation.

"Malachi, could you please tell Glee to help with the Interpretation (Decipher)?"

 "Understood."

Al's gaze was fixed on the magic tool's magic circuit. Malachi the golem hurriedly headed to the 8thh floor.

* * *

"Got it. To use it, you tap it twice, place 3 fingers on the edge, turn right to store it, and turn left to take it out... If I check the magic tool's touch and sound detection functions, I can understand it like this..."

 'Looks like it. Yay!'

In the evening, with Glee's pendant on his chest, Al murmured in admiration.

The magic tool, 'Sensory Boost,' left by Tempest, allowed for enhanced vision through a spell, and without Glee's support, it would have been difficult to understand such a complex magic circuit in such a short time.

"This has a basic stealth spell effect, but in Sir Tempest's time, they sometimes made magic circuits complicated on purpose, with dummies or traps set up. Of course, normal magic tools don't have such things. It's to prevent unauthorized access to building management magic devices. Please be very careful."

Malachi the golem explained. The stealth spell... from the name, it must be a spell to counter magic detection spells.

Maybe the 'Detect Magic' spell has an effect on this. If that's the case, it makes sense that this button-shaped magic tool doesn't respond to the 'Detect Magic' spell.

But, is there really such a spell? Al had only known about methods to physically make things harder to detect, like covering them with thick leather or wooden boxes.

He had never heard of such a thing from Lara, the magic tool shop owner. It was a completely different level of discussion.

"So, does that mean the magical devices in this research tower and Sir Tempest's tomb are also affected?"

"The devices in the research tower are made very securely. As for the tomb, the security devices are just guardian golems, so they aren't that strong."

"I see. But either way, if we can trick the building management's magical devices, we could disable the security devices and guardian golems, right?"

At Al's words, Malachi the golem nodded. He knew about Al's desire to explore ancient ruins and had encouraged him to analyze this magic tool for that purpose.

"Now, I wonder what's inside this magic bag?"

Al put the two parts of the button-shaped magic tool back together, happily tapping it and turning it to the left.

However, what was inside was a large amount of barley, rye, tubers, dried grass, fallen trees, and the corpses of goblins and lizardmen. Strangely, everything was frozen.

 "W-what is this?!"

When he explained the situation to Malachi the golem, he nodded lightly.

"I think I've explained before that there are two types of magic bags," Malachi continued. "One type has a limit on the number of items and uses a storage spell for items that dont age. The other type uses a separate space like a warehouse and employs a 'Transport' spell to move items in and out."

 He paused, looking thoughtful.

"The warehouse set as the 'Transport' destination for this magic tool is probably located in a very cold area, right?"

"I see, that makes sense. However, while barley and rye might be used as feed for livestock, the rest doesn't seem very useful."

"That's true. The goblin mage probably stored food for goblins and lizardmen, who are barbarians. Let's keep only the valuable items and turn the rest into feed or fertilizer to keep things tidy."

"Yeah, I'm sorry, but could you take care of that?"

Al, who was expecting something amazing, nodded a bit disappointedly at Malachi the golem's offer.

"Yes, understood. I will organize everything by today. Please check the sizes tomorrow."
