Volume 15 Chapter 10 White Long-Haired Bongo
The Stone Hurling Bongo that Al had fought before could be damaged by the 'Magic Missile' spell, and alone, it wasn't that strong of an enemy.
However, the troublesome part was that, true to its name, it threw stones from a distance and formed a group of about 50.
In Al's view, there were 5 White Long-Haired Bongo (he decided to call this creature, which resembled the Stone Hurling Bongo with its long white fur, White Long-Haired Bongo), but there might be more of them nearby.
If that was the case, it seemed dangerous to attack carelessly here. It would be better to at least check the surroundings first.
'Floating Eye.'
Al stepped back a bit on the stairs and created the transparent eye again to scout the area.
He moved the eye around in front of him to see if the White Long-Haired Bongo would react, but fortunately, they were just staring blankly at something.

What he saw was a ruin, likely made of stone, covered in snow in the dim light. Besides the room with the stairs where Al was hiding, there were parts of other buildings peeking out from the snow.
The area around the ruins was forested, but the trees there were mostly ones Al had never seen before.
When he looked up with the 'Floating Eye,' dark clouds hung low in the sky, as if a storm was coming.
From what Riana had told him before, there had been a major earthquake in the village where the Tempest clan lived, causing many buildings to collapse. After that, it was said that dark, cloudy days continued as if it had turned to night, and it even started to snow.
Could this place be in a similar situation?
'What a ominous sky.'
"Yeah, I can't tell if it's night or day at all. I can't see the sun, the moon, or the stars."
Al returned his gaze downward and began searching for any movement. However, as far as he could see, there was nothing moving in the completely white, snow-covered surroundings.
He didn't see anything moving among the remaining building ruins either. This meant that if he could take care of the 5 that were up the stairs, he might be able to manage.
'Should we use the "Magic Missile" spell? Or maybe the "Piercing Spear" spell? Would the "Sleep" spell be good? The 'Magic Tornado' spell... might be a bit too powerful?'
Glee said that, and Al couldn't help but grin. Compared to a year ago, he had learned many more spells.
Although Lord Zora said he still had a long way to go, he could at least claim to be a full-fledged magician in terms of the number of spells he had mastered.
He quietly looked at the group of White Long-Haired Bongo from a part of the crumbled stairs.

He could only aim at one target, so if he wanted to hit multiple targets, he would have to use Auto Hit, meaning he would have to aim for the center of their bodies.
When he fought the Stone Hurling Bongo before, it seemed to have more life force than a Lizardman, making it difficult to finish it off with just one 'Magic Missile' spell.
The White Long-Haired Bongo was even bigger, so he wasn't sure if 2 would be enough to take it down. However, with the 'Piercing Spear' spell, there was a good chance he could defeat it with just one.
"To be safer, I'll use 2 'Piercing Spear' spells on one, and one on the other 2. I have enough time to prepare, so I'll cast 'Shield' on myself first and then use 'Conceal' to hide before I start attacking. Al nodded and cast the 'Shield' and 'Conceal' spells. Because he used the 'Conceal' spell, the eye of the 'Floating Eye' disappeared, but that was unavoidable.
In that state, Al slowly slipped through the crack in the ceiling while under the restrictions of the 'Conceal' spell. With a safe escape route secured, he stared intently at the White Long-Haired Bongo from the crack.
The White Long-Haired Bongo seemed unaware of Al's presence and was leisurely looking around.
'Piercing Spear.'
Al's figure appeared at the same time as 4 glowing spears materialized in his hands. The White Long-Haired Bongo seemed to notice and lifted its head.
However, in the next moment, 2 glowing spears pierced one body, while one spear struck each of the other 2 bodies. Al saw this and immediately flew up into the sky.
"Gyau!"
A voice was heard from behind.
'The 3 bodies aren't moving. It looks like the other 2 are coming after us.'
Glee explained. The two began to move, shouting as they closed in. Once outside the broken wall, they dashed up to the ceiling at an incredible speed.
When they looked around and spotted Al, they thrust their hands forward.
"Groar! [Ice Shot]."
From the palms of the two White Long-Haired Bongo, fist-sized chunks of ice flew at Al, who was moving at full speed. However, those ice chunks were deflected by a hexagonal shield of light.
Since the attack was deflected twice, Al glanced back while still moving.
"Groar! [Ice Shot]."
The White Long-Haired Bongo launched another ice chunk, but by then, Al had already created a distance of over 50 meters (164ft), and the ice chunk fell short, dropping down.
Confirming this, Al stopped fleeing and looked back.
"Phew, they have that kind of technique. If they're using something like that, they must be magic beasts. It's good that I prioritized safety. At this distance, their attacks can't reach me. Since only 2 came out, it seems I could incapacitate at least one with a single 'Piercing Spear.' If that's the case..."
'Magic Missile'--Focused Power: Distance Extension
A glowing arrow shot out from Al's hand and pierced the White Long-Haired Bongo. It seemed to inflict some damage, as a cry of "Groar!" was heard.
"Groar! [Ice Shot]."
Once again, the White Long-Haired Bongo fired an ice chunk. Again, it did not reach Al.
The range of the ice chunks seemed to be about the same as the 'Magic Missile' and 'Piercing Spear' spells when fired without extending the distance.
In Al's case, the 'Magic Missile' spell could reach over 95 meters (312ft), more than 3 times that of the less skilled 'Piercing Spear,' which could reach 60 meters (197ft).
With this, it seemed possible to attack the enemy from a safe distance.

Once more, the White Long-Haired Bongo let out a scream from Al's attack. However, it still did not fall.
Normally, it would seem like it would fall over, but the fur from its chest to its belly is longer and fluffier, which might be reducing the damage from 'Magic Missile.'
As expected, the two White Long-Haired Bongo started to run away from this one-sided situation.

Al took a breath and looked around again. It seemed that there was nothing left attacking for now.
"Alright, I think we've cleared the obstacles. Now it's time for the ancient ruins."
