Volume 14 Chapter 5 Island Exploration Of The Research Tower
"Wow, this sand is a little pink!"
Patricia, who had come down to the beach, scooped up some sand in her palm and stared at it, then shouted loudly. Next to her, Glee the golem, though expressionless, nodded repeatedly.
"It's beautiful. It's faintly pink."
Al nodded too. In Milton city, which is near the border city of Lester, there was a port and a nearby sandy beach, but the sand there wasn't this pretty; it was a bit grayish.
However, on this island with the research tower, the inner beach from the southern rocky area had white sand that was lightly tinted pink.
"The water is clear too."
Glee murmured. The water was very transparent, and the white sand continued on the seabed, where colorful striped fish could be seen swimming among the rocks.
"I've never seen fish that color before."
After using the "Teleport" magic tool, Al noticed the island with the research tower was much hotter than the border city of Lester. The weather was completely different too.
When he first traveled between the two places, Al found it strange and asked Malachi if it was normal. Malachi explained about latitude, longitude, and ocean currents, but the information was too complicated for Al.
He understood it was hot because they were further south and that the weather varied. With these changes, the fish, animals, and plants were also different, leaving Al with many things he didn't know.
"That's true. They're really cute."
Could it be edible? Previously, Al had found a big crab in the wilderness and boiled it with Patricia and Joanna. He was surprised when Malachi later told him that some crabs could be poisonous.
It seemed that what he learned as a hunter could change depending on the location.
"Hey, Patricia, can you ask Riana if that fish is edible?"
"Yeah... she said she doesn't know. If the tower had a library, we could check, but for fish, the data is too vast. Even a research tower probably doesn't have that kind of library."
I see, she really didn't know that much.
"Huh? Isn't that library like a substance index?"
The substance index was something Al found in ancient ruins in the wilderness along with the 'Refine' spell, 'Extract' spell, and 'Analyze' spell. It was like a dictionary, but he wonders if it's not included in there.
"According to Riana, if you compare the results from the 'Analyze' spell with the substance index for the target you want to analyze, you can find out its composition."
She continued, gesturing as she spoke,
"However, the substance index only gives the component names and general information, so it seems you can't get into the details."
Patricia was doing her best to explain Riana's words to Al in a way he could understand. After learning the "Analyze" spell, he discovered it was just a spell to check how much the target he was investigating matched something he had looked into before.
He didn’t really know how to use it effectively, but he sensed there was a way. However, if he used it to check a fish, would he be able to tell if that fish was safe to eat?
"Well, I guess that's probably not something we can know."
Hearing Patricia relay Riana's answer, Al slumped his shoulders. So that’s how it is. It was a bit disappointing, but at least he had learned a new way to use the spell, so he hoped it would be useful in the future.
It seemed that for things like plants and insects, he would have to test them little by little by touching or tasting them to see if they were poisonous.
He needed to be careful, as some creatures like caterpillars and scorpions might have poison in parts of their bodies. Al had some confidence in herbal medicine, but here, it might not be very useful.
"Don't worry, Ally. You learned how to test things properly from the hunter, Morris, right?"
Glee's encouragement made Al nod. Since they were at the beach, he wanted to eat something delicious right away, but if he got hurt here, there was no one to consult with.
It wasn't that there was nothing to eat. He decided to do a little more investigating first.
"Okay then, Sir Al, let's leave the beach for now and explore the island!"
Patricia happily took Al's hand. Glee took his other hand. With both hands occupied, he wouldn't be able to react if something happened.
"But we came here to check if it's safe, right?"
"Don't worry, we've got the High-Rank Worker Golem watching us, and today there are two of them."
Glee said this. When she looked back, there were 2 High-Rank Worker Golems with wands that could use the 'Magic Missile' spell, giving a light bow to Al and the others.
It was true that she thought the danger was low, which is why she brought Patricia and the Golems along...
"I want to hold hands and walk too..."
Patricia said with a bright smile. Al felt like scratching his head, but both of his hands were holding onto Patricia and Glee.
"Okay, I-I understand."
Al awkwardly replied.

After that, Al and the others slowly explored the island. To the southwest from the center, they found a dense forest covered in vines, with unfamiliar trees around.
There seemed to be no large beasts nearby, and there were no animal trails. Aside from the rocky mountain with a tower, the land was mostly gently rolling hills.
A few thin streams of water could barely be called rivers. The northwest side of the island was all rocky, making it impossible to dock a boat there.
The island was about 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) around. Although they used the "Fly" spell in some dangerous spots, they mostly walked. By the time they returned to the sandy beach, the sun was starting to set.
"It looks like there's nothing here. Should we collect samples of the plants and seafood? If there are no problems, can we eat them?"
"Yeah, it seems like there are plenty of fish."
"Right. Next time, I'll get some tools for fishing too."
The two nodded happily at Al's words. Once again, Al used the "Fly" spell and floated up to return to the giant rock with the research tower.
Patricia, Glee, and the two High-Rank Worker Golems were all on the "Carrier" spell chairs. Since Patricia wasn't wearing armor and the golems weren't too heavy, there was no problem.
"The sunset is beautiful."
Patricia murmured. There were only a few fluffy clouds scattered in the sky. At a height of 3 hundred meters above the sea, the sight of the sunset sinking into the horizon with nothing to block it was amazing.
"Really, it is beautiful."
"Sir Al, I had fun today. Thank you very much."
"Yeah."
Al took the hands of Patricia and Glee, who were sitting in their chairs, and they all watched the sunset until it got dark.
