Volume 14 Chapter 1 Doll Golem
"I'm back."
"Welcome back!"
When Al 'Teleported' to the research tower, he was greeted as usual by Patricia, Baroness Tabasa, and the Malachi Golem in the square in front of the tower.
Recently, after discussing Naresh with Patricia and the others, Joanna had moved temporarily to the border city of Lester.
However, Al himself couldn't leave the border city of Parker because he was waiting for a reward. Baroness Tabasa was still holed up in her assigned room.
But that was just the official story. In reality, Al had been spending most of his afternoons with Baroness Tabasa under the pretense of learning etiquette.
Meanwhile, Doris had been taking care of things for her, allowing Al to spend most of his days in the research tower.
"Hey? Aren't you wearing Glee's pendant today?"
"Yeah. A few things happened. But don't worry, I'm fine."
Al had left the Glee pendant he usually wore with Patricia at the tower. This was because the Malachi Golem had asked for Glee's help in researching a pendant that originally belonged to Patricia.
The pendant had been passed down from the Tempest Kingdom. It was an assistant device named Riana, held by the spouse of the magician from Tempest.
Al had worn it until yesterday. Today, he wasn't hanging the pendant around his neck.
"So, I have something I want you to see."
Finally, had Riana (Patricia's pendant) successfully activated? Or had she been able to communicate properly with the assistant device that the goblin had?
Al followed the guidance and stepped out of the door of the small room that went up and down, entering the 8th floor of the research tower, the living area.
"Allyyyy!"
A girl suddenly hugged him. She had the same golden hair as Al. She was about the same height as him too. She wore an apron dress that looked a lot like the one Patricia wore.
"Eh? Eh?"
Al looked at the girl in confusion. Her face was covered with a mask that only had a nose line and raised eyebrows, similar to the Malachi golem. Around her neck, she had a pendant of Glee hanging.
"Could it be, Glee?"
"Yeah!"
The Malachi golem had said before that there might be a prototype left in the tower from when he was created, and it seemed she had found it. She must have put on a wig and borrowed clothes from Patricia.
"Allyyy?"
The Glee golem held Al's cheeks with both hands and started to squish them.
"Hey, hey, Glee?"
"Wow, so this is what Ally feels like!"
It was strange; when Patricia had put it on, she should have been able to see Al through her eyes.
"Like, the way it feels and everything. Patty wants to touch you like this too, but she gets shy and can't..."
When Al glanced at Patricia, he saw she was bright red. "Patty" seemed to be a shortened way of saying Patricia. It looked like they had become quite close during the time he was away.
"Wow, so it's the prototype doll golem you mentioned before... What's it like to walk by yourself?"
"It's a bit strange, but once you get used to it, it's fun. But maybe it's better hanging around Ally's neck?"
"I see. Well, either way is fine, right? That prototype golem was approved by Patricia and Malachi for Glee to use."
Next to them, Patricia and Malachi's golem nodded. The Malachi golem stepped forward and lightly bowed to Al.
"Sir Al, thank you for lending Ingrid to us. About the two assistant devices, we managed to wake Riana up. She had been low on mana for years, so some of her memories are missing, but overall, she's okay."
Oh, that's great. He had so many questions for her.
"Did she talk to you, Malachi?"
"Yes. There are several versions of the prototype doll golem, and besides the full-body one Ingrid is using, there was one with just the head, which has vision, smell, hearing, and speech functions. We attached it and had various conversations."
"I heard stories from when Sir Tempest was alive and many other interesting tales."
"There were a lot of fascinating stories."
It seemed Patricia and Glee were also listening to the conversation. Where is she now, or rather, where is it placed?
"I'm wearing it right now."
Patricia took out a pale blue crystal with a frame, just like the first time she showed it. It seemed that this one wasn't meant to be worn around the neck.
Right now, Al was probably having a conversation with Patricia in a voice only they could hear. It was just like when he wore Glee's pendant, the assistant device.
"I really want to talk too. After Malachi went into the grave with Sir Tempest, what happened to the ancient civilization? How did the ancient civilization deal with the Barbarians? There's so much I want to know!"
Patricia nodded, as if she was thinking about something. Maybe she was talking to Riana's assistant device.
"Riana says she doesn't know much about either. Um... hmm, Malachi, could you bring out that prototype golem that looks like a bust? I think it would be better for Sir Al to talk directly with Riana."
"That sounds good. I'll bring it right away."
The Malachi golem bowed and went back to the small room that went up and down.
"In the meantime, would you like some tea?"
Baroness Tabasa brought over a tray with cups. She seemed to be getting used to life here.
