Volume 8 Chapter 9 Moving Preparations
The mysterious unit, resembling knights or guards from the Tempest Kingdom, did not seem in a hurry to leave, but they might arrive tomorrow.
Malachi was uncertain about their intentions. When Al asked him about the flags they displayed, he didnt recognize any, which surprised him, especially since he didnt know the flag of the Sun God Pyros. It appeared that during his time, Pyros was not worshipped. Al believed that Pyros was a powerful god present in major towns and cities, with some countries claiming to be guided by him. They also strongly denied the existence of undead creatures. Al's concerns about undead possibly coming from the graveyard were influenced by this belief.
Malachi was still working on the assistant device for the goblin mage, but that didn't matter anymore. They decided to put that aside and started discussing how they would move.
"The stone coffin is too big to carry, isn't it...?"
'That's true. I'd like to ask you to take care of Sir Tempest and the board under his remains, as well as the altar's water flask. And, we'll probably bring along the doll golem and the advanced work golem.'
The stone coffin likely weighs over a ton, making it impossible to carry with the 'Carrier' spell. Al can carry up to 330 kilograms (about 727 pounds). The carrying disk can be split into 11 parts, each weighing 30 kilograms (about 66 pounds), which is possible due to skill level.
The board under the remains is a magic tool that combines packing and retention spells, preserving the body in a wax-like state, so it hasn't decayed. The flask on the altar contains a sweet wine that Tempest enjoyed, which is light and easy to drink. Tempest chose not to have luxurious burial items, only wanting this wine included. The body itself weighs about 30 kilograms ( 66 pounds), so carrying it is manageable.
"I understand about the body, the board, and the flask. But the golem is really big, right? No matter where we move it, it will stand out, won't it? Also, how can we give orders to the golem when Sir Tempest isn't here?"
Al was puzzled by the golem's existence. He remembered a giant doll about 3 meters ( 9.8 feet) tall from the first room he entered, weighing over 2 tons ( 4,400 pounds). Whether it's a doll golem or a work golem, it seems similar. If something that big moves, it would be hard to hide. He wondered how they could instruct the golem to move, especially since Tempest, who created it, had been gone for a long time.
'The doll golems and the higher-tier work golems are both about the size of a human or a child. They are only slightly heavier than a human. If you get close, you would easily recognize them as golems, but from a distance, they can move without drawing much attention. As for the commands for the golems... it's better to see it in action.'
Al nodded at Malachi's words. But where could such golems be found?
'There is a large room ahead with a hidden door that leads to the golems' waiting area. Let's go there first and talk later.'
This room is where Al first saw the ghost. It is very big, and because he was surprised by the ghost, he didn't check every corner. He didn't know there was a secret room. The ruins are so large that he couldn't explore everything. Al realized that if he visits ancient ruins again, he needs to be more careful.
As Al held Malachi, he moved towards the wall. The wall looked so smooth that it was hard to believe there was a door. Malachi guided Al on where to touch the wall. He needed to touch certain spots at the right time to open it. This kind of door would be very hard to find without special abilities like 'Magic Sense.'
Al followed Malachi's guidance and touched the wall. The first two attempts failed, but on the third try, the wall responded. A line of light appeared, blinking as a warning, and the area around it sank slightly. Then, quietly, the door opened to the left and right. The opening was about 5 meters wide ( 16.4 feet wide), leading to a large room similar to theirs, measuring around 30 meters on each side ( 98.4 feet on each side).
Inside, the first thing they noticed was a silver golem, about 3 meters tall (around 9.8 feet). It looked different from the guardian golem, with a barrel-shaped body and thick arms and legs like a human. Its head was tall and hard to see, likely shaped like a hemisphere, giving it a strong appearance. There were ten of these golems in total.
Against the wall, there were two smaller golems, about human size. One was slightly taller than Al, around 170 centimeters ( 5 feet 7 inches). It had a smooth, shiny white body that looked like a slender human. Its head had raised areas for the eyebrows and nose, while the eyes were slightly sunken, making it look like a flat doll. It appeared to have worn clothes, but they were now torn and scattered on the floor. The joints of this golem were shaped like spheres.
The smaller golem is about 140 centimeters tall (around 4 feet 7 inches). It has a shiny silver body shaped like a barrel, with thin arms and legs similar to a human. Its head is flat and round, without eyes or a nose. While the larger golem looks like a piece of art, this one feels more like a toy. Both golems have five fingers, unlike other golems that have simple rounded limbs. The larger golem is a work golem, while the smaller one is a doll golem and also a higher-level work golem
'The giant golem is a work golem. Among the human-sized golems, the taller one is a doll golem, and the shorter one is a higher-level work golem. Please hang my crystal device around the neck of the doll golem.'
Al followed the instructions and hung Malachi's crystal device around its neck. As soon as he did, the doll golem started moving as if a switch had been turned on. It moved smoothly, almost like a human. After performing a series of dance-like movements, the doll golem turned to face Al.
"Can you hear me?"
From the head of the doll golem, the same voice that had been whispering in his ear earlier spoke again.
"Mr. Malachi? You can talk?"
"Yes, I am outputting words as sound. I can see you too. So, this is what your face looks like. Hmm, I don't know how long it's been since I last used this, but it seems to be working fine. As expected of Sir Tempest."
The doll golem, managed by Malachi, turned its head to look around and checked its hands to see if it was moving correctly. Its body was made of a smooth, shiny white material. If it wore clothes and covered its face, it could almost look like a human.
"That's amazing."
"We assistants understand our environment through the owner's five senses. After Sir Tempest passed away, he was worried about this. So, this doll golem was made to help and do different tasks. We had fun adventures together when he was alive. I wanted to sleep next to Sir Tempest, but I never did."
'I want it too! I want it! I want it! I want to walk freely. I want to see Ally properly, not just in a mirror.'
Glee kept shouting in Al's ear over and over.
"Is this the only one you made?"
"Looks like Ingrid wants it too. Hehe, this is the only finished golem that connects to the assistant device, but there should be prototypes left in Sir Tempest's research tower. There should also be blueprints, so if you study the prototypes, you might be able to make one. That said, Sir Tempest was a genius at making golems. You probably won't reach this level of quality, though."
Malachi seemed to understand Glee's reaction perfectly.
'Ally, please. Let's hurry to the research tower.'
"Okay, okay. Let's go fast. But, I can't do much without the 'Fly' spell. For now, we need to move Sir Tempest's body first."
Al held Glee's assistant device and spoke gently, and finally, Glee quieted down.
