Volume 7 Chapter 4 Stone Hurling Bongo & Six-Legged Tiger

Al, Orson, Madoc, and Najira were heading northwest along the river from a town with a ferry. It hadn't rained recently, and the river was about ten meters wide ( 32.8 feet wide). The rocky riverbank was quite wide, with huge boulders scattered around.

Even though the peak of summer had passed, the sun was still strong, and Al, Madoc, and Najira were climbing up and down the rocks, sweating and out of breath. However, Orson was floating in a chair made by the 'Carrier' spell right behind Al, looking around.

"Orson, that looks easy for you."

"Sorry, Najira. But it's because of my leg. I'm keeping an eye on the surroundings, so please forgive me."

Orson rubbed his bad leg apologetically. He had been limping since an injury he got last spring. If he had to climb over the big rocks, it would take him much longer.

"Well, I understand that. But still, I'm a bit jealous. Can you let me ride with you?"

"Hmm, that might be a bit difficult. I can carry just the luggage, though..."

Al smiled wryly beside him. His skill with the 'Carrier' spell had improved a lot, and now he could carry about 200 kg ( 440 lbs). But since both Orson and Najira were wearing metal armor, it would be tough to carry both of them. He might manage just the luggage.

"Really? Even just the luggage would help a lot. My spare weapons and rations are pretty heavy. Can you carry Madoc's stuff too?"

"Okay, but if I load too much, it won't move, so as long as it's within that limit, it's fine. I'll make a box to carry the luggage."

Al used the 'Magic Power Control' spell to change the shape of the chair Orson was sitting on, creating a one-meter-sized square box ( 3.28 feet) behind the backrest. The two of them started putting their bags and other items into the box one by one.

"In a place like this, it would be impossible to carry everything by ourselves. If we needed to hire porters, we would have to hire 4 people. This is really convenient."

Madoc, feeling relieved, started to roll his shoulders, which had been carrying the load until now. It felt a bit strange to think about needing 4 porters, but Al decided to take it positively since it meant more profit.

"So, is the place where we can get Raindrop pretty far? I heard it takes about ten days..."

 "Yeah..."

Orson looked northwest in response to Al's question.

"From here, we need to follow the river for a bit longer. In some areas, we will climb in the river instead of just walking along the bank, but the water is low now, so it should be safe. If we keep this pace, we should reach a narrow stream coming from the south by the afternoon of the day after tomorrow. There is a big rock there that will help us find it easily. Our final destination is about 2 hours upstream from that spot."

Al used the 'Floating Eye' spell to float about 5 meters ( 16.4 feet) up and looked in that direction. However, the forest was already closing in around them, making it hard to see far.

"I heard that magic beasts appear often here. What kind of beasts are there?"

"There are Stone Hurling Bongo and Six-Legged Tiger. Do you know them?"

Orson looked at the 3 of them. Madoc and Najira tilted their heads in confusion, but Al nodded slightly.

"I've never seen one in real life, but I've heard stories. I'm from the Sipree mountains, so it's pretty far from here, closer to the Nash mountains."

This was when Al was a child, asking his father if they could move straight east from their hometown, Channing village, to the remote city of Lester. According to his father, it was impossible because there were many magic beasts along the way. The two types of magic beasts he mentioned were these.

The Stone Hurling Bongo is a monkey that's about the same size as a human or a bit bigger, and it lives in groups of around 50. They have their own territory, and if a human enters, they will attack. They throw stones, which makes them quite troublesome.

The Six-Legged Tiger is about 5 meters ( 16.4 feet) long and, as the name suggests, has 6 legs. This one is known to be relatively calm for a magic beast, and sometimes it won't attack even if you get close.

When Al explained what he had heard to the two who had never heard of them, Orson nodded.

"The Stone Hurling Bongo has long arms and is very strong, making it a challenge. It's safe here because the riverbanks are wide, but as we go upstream, they get narrower, and the Bongo can appear. This is especially true in the tributaries, where it can be dangerous, so please be careful."

"They throw stones? I should bring a shield then."

After Orson explained, Madoc and Najira took their shields from a box and put them on their backs. Madoc's shield was tall and rectangular, over a meter high, and looked quite heavy. However, it was important to have it in case large stones were thrown at them.

"I don't have a shield, so good luck to you!"

At Al's words, Madoc smiled with a grin, showing off the beard he had recently started to grow.
