Volume 6 Chapter 14 Goblin Slaughter

Volume 6 Chapter 14 Goblin Slaughter

 "Sir Naresh, you saved me!"

Baron Oliver couldn't help but say this out loud. He seemed tense, but from Naresh's view, his legs were already wobbling. It looked like he was facing a really tough opponent.

"Your Excellency Oliver, I'm sorry for being late. Leave the rest to me."

Saying this, Naresh stepped forward to protect Baron Oliver and Lady Felicia. The last Goblin Slaughter readied the spear it had taken from Baron Oliver. It wasn't holding it like a proper spear, more like a club, but given the Goblin Slaughter's strength, it was easy to imagine how dangerous it could be for Baron Oliver and the others.

 "Gya gya gya!"

The Goblin Slaughter stared at Naresh and slammed the spear into the ground with all its might. Dirt flew up around Naresh's face, and he instinctively raised his left arm to shield himself. Seeing this, the Goblin Slaughter pulled back the spear and swung it around wildly.

"Gyahi! ('Wave Strike' Blunt Weapon Technique--All-Around Smash)"

 "I won't lose!"

Naresh raised his sword to meet the swinging spear. He braced himself with both hands on the sword to counter the Goblin Slaughter's powerful attack.

 *Clang!*

The spear held by the Goblin Slaughter bent as it clashed with Naresh's sword. He wondered how much force it took for a metal-reinforced spear to break like that. The Goblin Slaughter tossed the useless spear aside. Immediately, he thrust his palm forward as if to grab the air. Naresh pretended to dodge to the right, then changed his angle and slid his body to the left. As the Goblin Slaughter was confused by the feint, Naresh slashed at his back with the sword he switched to in his left hand.

'Shadow Slice' Straight Sword Technique--Blind Angle Attack

Naresh's sword sliced deeply into the Goblin Slaughter's back, from shoulder to shoulder.

 "Ugyagyagyah!"

The Goblin Slaughter let out a scream-like voice. Naresh sidestepped, twisting his body, and kicked the Goblin Slaughter from the front. The Goblin Slaughter was sent flying backward.

 "Take this!"

Naresh placed his right hand on the sword's hilt and stepped straight toward the wobbling Goblin Slaughter, bringing his sword down with all his strength. Naresh's straight sword cut deeply from the Goblin Slaughter's shoulder to halfway through his torso.

 "Ugyahhhhhh!"

With a spray of blood, the Goblin Slaughter fell backward. Baron Oliver, Lord Felicia, and the other knights were shocked by Naresh's display of strength, their eyes wide open.

"The Great Hobgoblin is dead!" "Ohhhhhh!"

The attendants cheered. Naresh raised his straight sword in his right hand in response. The goblins they had been fighting seemed to snap back to reality, shouting "Ugyagyah" as they turned and began to flee.

 "Don't chase them too far!"

Baron Oliver calmly gave instructions. The knights and their squires began to clear out the goblins that had invaded the campsite. The church members and the adventurers guarding them also helped by treating the injured, repairing the campsite, and disposing of the goblin corpses. Meanwhile, Wald and Emerson finally showed up, but the knights reacted coldly to them.

 "Great job, Sir Naresh!"

Al approached Naresh and patted him on the shoulder. Lord Radyard and Sigmund, who were standing nearby, also looked pleased.

"This is a huge achievement. I thought just taking down the Kilolizardman was impressive enough, but this happened right in front of the other knights and squires. His Excellency Baron Oliver can't ignore Sir Naresh now. I'm feeling quite proud myself."

"I think I might have gone a bit overboard, though. Al, look at this."

Naresh showed his right-hand sword. The blade was bent from the base and wouldn't fit back into its sheath.

"This is the effect of 'Physical Boost'? I didn't expect it to be this intense..."

"Yeah, I forced the cut with too much power, and this is what happened, Al."

Sigmund gasped in amazement, while Naresh shook his head in disbelief, a big smile on his face.

"Well, we'll probably need to transport the Goblin Slaughter and the goblin mage's bodies to Lester for investigation, and we'll have to report about this sword and the 'Physical Boost' too."

Al made a worried face at Lord Radyard's words. He had planned to stay low-key this time, and he also had the goal of learning the 'Fly' spell with this reward. He didn't want to be distracted by other things.

"Yeah, not just the 'Physical Boost' spell, but also how to use the 'Floating Eye' spell for scouting, the spell that lets you see in the dark, and how to use the 'Light' spell. Everything Al did during this expedition was revolutionary. It might be a good idea to think about what to report and how much. That said, to use it as a knight order, many magicians need to be able to do similar things. In that sense, I'm curious about what Mr. Eric is researching right now."

From Naresh's talk, it seemed that the way magic was used this time could potentially be a military secret. However, Al was more interested in something else. It was the collar worn by the goblin mage who was with the kilolizardman. It looked very similar to the crystal that his assistant Glee had. If it was the same thing, it could be very valuable.

"Um, I don't really understand the knight order stuff. For now, I just hope it doesn't turn into a hassle. By the way, is it okay if I take a quick look around the area?"

Seeing Naresh smile and nod, Al waved and left the campsite.

* * *

The goblin mage's corpse was found quickly. There were no lizardmen in sight nearby. As Al approached the corpse, he canceled the 'Conceal' spell he had been using. He cautiously reached out to touch the collar of the goblin mage.

 'Gya gya gya gya'

Al heard a voice near his ear, just like Malachi and Glee. But the words were the same as the Barbarians.

'Ally, I can't understand that one...'

 He heard Glee's voice.

Al felt really disappointed and let out a big sigh.

"Is it an assistant for the Barbarians? Do you know anything?"

'I don't know anything... Maybe Mr. Malachi knows something?'

Should I take it home anyway...? Al removed the collar from the goblin mage's corpse and tossed it into his leather bag for loot.

"I wonder if there's anything else..."

Since he came all this way, Al decided to use the 'Magic Sense' spell. If the goblin mage and the Kilo Lizardman were smart enough to lead this operation, they might have something useful. Then, surprisingly, an old metal button on the tattered clothes of the goblin mage started to glow pale blue.

Could it be a magic tool? Al carefully touched the button. But nothing happened. It might just be out of mana. He had no idea if it was valuable, but he decided to take it home and check.

Then, Al used the 'Conceal' spell again to hide his appearance. It was a bit of a detour, but he stopped by to check the Kilo Lizardman's corpse. However, this was a total miss. Still, he had obtained 2 magic tools. Al thought about how to investigate them as he returned to the campsite.
