 ★ World Setting

 -----------------------------------

I will add some notes about the world setting, as it may be of interest.

 ● Regarding the titles and settings of the nobility:

When reading various sources such as Wikipedia, it seems that in places like Britain, nobles of Baron rank and above are referred to as "[territory name] [title] [given name] [surname]" or "[territory name] [title] [given name]" (for example, "Lord of [territory name]"). Knights are not called "Lord," but in this work, for the sake of clarity, I will use the setting where they are called "[territory name] [title]" or "[territory name] [given name]" (or "[surname] [given name]" if they do not have a territory).

In the Sylvester Kingdom, where the current setting of this story takes place, only nobles have surnames. These are usually based on their territory names, but there are cases where they do not match, which can happen due to territorial changes or other reasons. This is a reality that exists in the real world as well, so please bear with me. Additionally, former nobles who have fallen into poverty and become commoners may claim their surnames as well. Also, while not nobles, merchants sometimes use their shop names (such as "Leda merchant guild") as their surnames.

The noble ranks I have in mind are Duke, Marquis, Earl, Margrave, Count, Viscount, Baron, and Knight. These are hereditary. Below them are the ranks of quasi-knights (who are not nobles but quasi-nobles, and are treated as nobles for only one generation, allowing them to use a surname).

In general, a Duke has to have a head of the family within 3 degrees of kinship from the king (at the time of succession).

If the blood relation gets too distant, they are no longer a Duke. Nobles above the rank of Count are called high-ranking nobles and do not have to pay taxes to the royal family. (However, they may be ordered to contribute to public investments in places like the royal capital. In some cases, they might also have to pay additional taxes... Also, even within their territories, important locations like ports and mines may be directly managed by the royal family.)

Viscounts, Barons, and knights do not necessarily own land; there are also legal nobles who serve higher-ranking nobles and receive rewards.
