Chapter 292 People Are Full Of Contradictions

"By the way, has the Young Marquis family returned to the capital yet?"

"No, they are still at their main residence. Originally, they were supposed to head back 5 days after the hunting tournament, but, well, a lot has happened."

Even while being petted by Sara on his lap and squinting his eyes, Sedrick didn't forget to report.

"Actually, there have been several requests to visit Maiden's Tower, but we declined because we couldn't tell if Milady Sara would want that."

"But the kids came to study, right?"

 "That's correct."

The teachers, Thomas, Jane, and Cordelia, the female educator, didn't reduce the children's study time even though Sara was unwell. Cordelia, who was especially training Adam, was relentless. Rebecca was busy dealing with the noble family that stayed after the hunting tournament and preparing for her wedding, and since Sara, who was originally her student, was sick, she couldn't spend much time. Still, she always attended the meetings to discuss the children's curriculum.

"That's why we bring a gift to Lady Chloe. Lady Chloe looked very sad when she saw Miss Sara sleeping. Since it was a woman's bedroom, Sir Adam and Sir Christopher didn't enter."

 "I made those kids worry, didn't I?"

 "They were very worried."

"By the way, did Aunt forgive Adam?"

"They're quite surprised since it was the first time that person said he wanted to study on his own. However, Sir Adam opposed the madam's statement about finding a proper tutor in the royal capital..."

"Oh, so he didn't like that Miss Cordelia was rejected?"

"That's right. The next day, Sir Adam asked Lady Rebecca to persuade the madam."

"Wow, that's a smart move for Adam."

"However, the madam also showed reluctance about her son studying alongside commoners..."

"Yeah, I can picture that scene."

'Rigid aristocratic supremacy doesn't change easily.'

"Then Lady Chloe came in and said to the madam, 'Since my brother is finally motivated, please support him. Besides, all the famous tutors in the royal capital were fired by him, so I doubt it will be easy to find a good teacher now'."

 "Wow, that's a solid argument."

"Actually, it didn't stop there. She pressed on, saying, 'If this continues, my brother won't be able to enter the academy and could be disinherited by grandfather. If grandfather wants to make Sara or Scott the heir, there's even a chance that father could be disinherited too. You haven't forgotten about the money troubles father had, which Sara helped solve, right?'."

"That's a really complicated scenario. I'm totally against being the lord's heir, though."

"I think Marquis Grandchester understands. Still, it seems to have hit the Young Marquis's wife pretty hard."

'Actually, it seems like the Academy is going to give Adam a boost in his exam scores just to please Grandchester.'

The Academy really wants the technology from the Sophia Merchant Guild, or rather, from Maiden's Tower. Plus, they owe a favor for covering up the scandal caused by the alchemy professors during the hunting tournament. They probably won't do anything to upset Grandchester right now. Still, if Adam, who can't keep up with anything, gets admitted, it's clear he won't be able to follow the classes.

"By the way, did Adam really fire that many tutors?"

"He's pretty much gone through all the famous tutors for noble sons. Some of them were even current professors at the Academy."

"Oh my, poor Chris who got dragged into this too."

"Sir Christopher seems to be a smart guy, so it looks like he managed just fine."

Adam fired his twelfth tutor right before leaving the capital. Christopher was attending the same classes as Adam, so he kept getting new teachers because of Adam's whims. However, even when Adam skipped classes, Christopher didn't, so he ended up getting exclusive, high-quality lessons from the well-known tutors in the capital. Christopher is a smart kid, and since the tutors were professionals, they were able to check his progress and teach him the necessary knowledge effectively.

"So in the end, did Adam get to take classes with Miss Cordelia?"

"Yes. For about 3 days now, he has been attending Mrs. Cordelia's private school, dressed like a child from a wealthy merchant family. It seems he got into a scuffle with a commoner kid on the first day, but he never revealed his true identity until the end."

 "That's amazing. I can't believe it's Adam."

"Before Sir Adam returned to the main residence, he went to see Lady Rebecca at Maiden's Tower and asked the madam to help treat his injuries so that the fight wouldn't be discovered. He probably thought he would be banned from attending if it got out."

"I kind of want to cheer for Adam now."

"But he almost killed Miss Sara, right?"

"I know being pushed into the pond was an accident, but that doesn't mean I'll forgive them. Still, it's not a lie that I want to support someone who's trying hard."

"Human are still complicated, aren't they? That's why I find it interesting and gather information."

"Hehe. People are full of contradictions."

Actually, it's not just Adam; Chloe and Christopher are also not very eager to return to the capital. For the children, Grandchester is full of fun right now.

Chloe is obsessed with the designs of the products from the Sophia Merchant Guild and the dresses for Sara that are regularly delivered from the women's village. It was also Chloe who arranged for the clothing staff from the main residence to visit the women's village and teach the "boy" designer and seamstress skills related to fashion.

Christopher was really into playing chess against Cordelia. While just playing against her was fun, solving the chess tactics and problems she created in the past was also interesting. By the way, Sara had her eye on Cordelia's past problems and was planning to publish them all together soon.

"Milady Sara, is it okay for all 3 of the Young Marquis family's children to stay in Grandchester territory like this?"

"Of course not! Adam will stay here to study, but Chloe and Chris promised to work hard on their promotional activities in the capital!"

 "I see. Understood."

"Well, they'll probably come here often anyway."

Sara smiled softly as she imagined her cousins frequently visiting Grandchester territory.

"However, winter is coming soon. I can't recommend going out too much. I hope there won't be any outbreaks of disease this year..."

'I've been wondering about this for a while, but isn't the disease that spreads in winter something like seasonal flu? I should ask Rihito later.'

By the way, Sara's birthday is December 14th. Remembering her past life, Sara thought, 'Oh, it's the day of the raid in the Tale of the Loyal Retainers (Chuusingura)!' but she knew that if she told someone, they wouldn't understand, so she kept it to herself.

Adelia, Sara's real mother, passed away in December as well. On Sara's 8th birthday, Adelia made a stew with extra vegetables, and they smiled at each other while eating together. However, just a few days later, Adelia could no longer get out of bed and passed away before the new year.

Sara had not forgotten the day when there was no food, no firewood, and she quietly lay down next to her mother, wrapped in a thin blanket. Now that she remembered her past life, she thought there must have been other ways for Adelia to handle things. But saying it now wouldn't change anything.

"Milady Sara, are you feeling unwell?"

Sedrick looked up at Sara with concern from his spot on her lap. Mike and Pochi were also peeking in to check on her.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I was just thinking about a lot of things. I can't believe I'm almost 9 years old."

"That's right. We need to celebrate your birthday."

 "We're going to celebrate big!"

 "I'll prepare lots of flowers."

 "Thank you, three of you!"

Sara petted the fairies, pouring her magic into them, and looked out the window as it gradually brightened.

 'Now, where should I start?'

Sara smiled widely, set Sedrick down from her lap, and began to write a letter.
