Volume 2 Chapter 78 We Decided To Go Shopping For Clothes For The Garden Party

So, it looks like Shibata-san's birthday party will be a garden tea party at Kokonoe-san's house.

Akihiro:

(Hmm, then the clothes are a problem. If it was karaoke or just at home, we could wear our uniforms, but for a proper garden party, is there a dress code?)

Lottie:

(Well, ano... I don't think we're going sore hodo, umm, formal... right?)

Mayuri:

(But since it's a tea party, I want to wear something a bit fancy.)

Lottie:

(True, normally the dress code is to wear daytime doresu.)

Eri:

(Of course, it's tough to wear a formal daytime dress.)

Saya:

(Well, I think we can just wear something that looks nice. We're not like the noble ladies from novels.)

Akihiro:

(Exactly! If the women are in daytime dresses, they'd end up in a morning coat. We're not making it that fancy.)

Lottie:

(That's right. But I feel like we should follow some dress code. For this season, I think light blue oganza, soft pink, light green, and fresh yellow doresu would be great. Since it's a garden party surrounded by blue sky, midori no grass, and colorful flower.)

Mayuri:

 (I see, that's helpful.)

Lottie:

(I think it will also be useful for when we have or attend garden Kekkon in the future. )

Eri:

(Garden weddings, huh? That sounds lovely.)

Saya:

(It seems like you can buy clothes that look like organza dresses for around 5000 yen. How about we all go check them out tomorrow? There should be some at Lalala Port, right?)

Mayuri:

(Oh, I totally agree with that idea!)

Lottie:

(That's right, I think it iz a good idea too.)

Eri:

(Yes, I'd definitely like to go.)

Akihiro:

(Then I guess I have to join too. I don't want to stand out because my outfit doesn't match. What kind of clothes should I wear?)

Lottie:

(In that case, I recomendo a gray or nebi sammer jaketto.)

Akihiro:

(I see. If I wear a jacket with my uniform pants, will that work out?)

Lottie:

(Yea, dat shud be fine. Also, dont forget about sun protekushon and keeping cool. Using sunscreen is a must, and wearing a shawl or borero for sun protekushon is efektibu too. At daytime weddings or pati, its proper manners to wear somethin like a borero, regardless of da venue or shizun.)

Mayuri:

 (I see, that's really helpful.)

Akihiro:

(Got it. But boleros are cute, aren't they?)

Saya:

(I see, so Hata-kun likes boleros and capes.)

Eri:

 (That's good to know.)

Lottie:

(In America, students ofuten have chances to attend social pati. Ive actually been to a purom pati before.)

Akihiro:

(Speaking of prom, it's the biggest event in American high school life. It's a dance party held for seniors who are about to graduate. But isn't that something you do for graduation in your senior year of high school?)

Lottie:

(Yes, generally, da event held for da last year of high school, which corresponds to Japans sando nen, is called da senior purom. Da event for da second-to-last year, which corresponds to Japans nido nen, is called da junior purom. Its a very important event for high school students in U.S. and Kanada. However, while participashun requires a pair of boys and girls, da partner doesnt have to be a classmate; upperclassmen, underclassmen, graduates, or even people from outside da school are fine.)

Mayuri:

(I see, so if an upperclassman chooses you as a partner, you can attend the prom. That's nice.)

Lottie:

(I was invited by a senior from da school myujikaru club.)

Akihiro:

(But for prom, guys wear tuxedos, and girls wear dresses or gowns with high heels, right? They dance socially. That's amazing.)

Lottie:

(In America, that's just how it is. Plus, since purom is held at night, its customary to go to a resutoran beforehand for dinner. During dis time, guys shud remember to escort da girls and handle everyting from da reservation to da payment. But its not just any daina; you usually go to a nicer resutoran, so you need to master dining etiquette. If you can use a knife and fork skilfully, you can eat smartly. Also, to keep your tuxedo or dress clean, its important to order easy-to-eat dishes and be considerate.)

Akihiro:

(So, I have to escort for both dinner and dancing? I don't think I could even ask a partner out in the first place.)

As I typed that, responses came back in a rush.

Saya:

 (What?)

Lottie:

 (Doubt it.)

Eri:

 (I don't think that's true.)

Mayuri:

 (That's definitely not the case.)

Akihiro:

(Yeah, why does everyone deny it so strongly? Anyway, is it okay to go shopping for clothes tomorrow? My schedule is open.)

Lottie:

 (Yes, Im fine with dat.)

Eri:

 (I'm good too.)

Mayuri:

 (Me too.)

After that, we decided on a meeting place and time, and the chat ended.

I guess I should also think about what to wear for events like doujin conventions, camping, or Comiket.
