Volume 3 Chapter 7 Big-Mouthed Lizard Hunting Ii Time Sequel
Al moved quietly, hiding his presence as he approached the Big-Mouthed Lizards. He noted over 30 gathered, with sizes ranging from 1 meter (≈3.3 feet) to over 6 meters (≈19.7 feet). While larger ones could sell for a higher price, catching them would be tough; lizards around 3 to 4 meters (≈9.8 to 13.1 feet) were ideal. Usually, they hid alone, making this a rare chance to choose a target.
However, it would be difficult to target anything other than those at the edge of the group, and the Illusion spell had a limited range. Fortunately, a few lizards of the ideal size were in a spot where he could hunt. Al decided how to lead one and then returned to Orson and the others.
"Mr. Orson, I found a good one. It's probably just over 3 meters (9.84 feet) long."
"Which one is it?"
Al and Orson discussed how to lead the lizard and how Orson would hide and move. The bait had shifted from a real lure to an Illusion spell, but their roles remained the same as during their last hunt.
"Got it, sounds good. Lippi and Pippi, stay hidden."
Lippi made a dissatisfied face, but after Orson explained that a small mistake could provoke an attack from the group, he reluctantly agreed. Al placed the goblin corpse he had prepared earlier where he planned to finish off the lizard and began chanting a spell.
'Sensory Boost'──Zoom
'Illusion'──Meat Chunk
A meat chunk resembling the corpse appeared about a meter in front of Al's hand. He moved his hands up and down, ensuring his eyes stayed on the meat, which mirrored his movements.
"Wow, it looks just like the real thing. That's amazing."
Orson said, sniffing to identify its scent. Al brought the Illusion closer to Orson's nose, and his eyes widened in surprise at the smell.
"Alright, let’s get started."
Al walked toward the Big-Mouthed Lizards, the meat chunk floating alongside him. Lippi and Pippi moved the cart to stay hidden, while Orson alternated his gaze between the meat and the lizard group, watching for any unexpected movements. The Illusion of the meat chunk slowly approached the targeted Big-Mouthed Lizard.
*Stare...*
The Big-Mouthed Lizard shifted its eyes toward the approaching meat mass. Al, using Sensory Boost, noticed its recognition while the nearby lizard remained indifferent.
He carefully brought the meat illusion closer, watching the target lizard closely. Then, he moved the illusion away, and the lizard lightly splashed the water, following Al.
"Gotcha!"
Al smiled and whistled sharply for Orson, who quickly responded. Al slowly backed away while guiding the lizard with the meat illusion. Its speed increased, and only one was moving toward him, just as planned. He led it to the shore, where it climbed onto land and spotted the goblin corpse, rushing toward it to bite.
'Piercing' Thrust Spear Technique --- Penetration
Orson approached from behind and struck the lizard with his spear, finishing it in one hit. Al cheered as Orson smiled proudly. Hearing the cheer, Lippi and Pippi appeared, shouting, "We did it!" and "That's amazing!" at the sight of the fallen lizard.
"Just as expected, Mr. Orson!"
Al nodded repeatedly, impressed. Orson scratched his head, looking a bit shy, and then stepped on the dead Big-Mouthed Lizard to pull out his spear.
"No, it's thanks to Al for luring it so well. Unlike regular fishing, we don’t have to wait for it to bite, so this might be more efficient. Let’s keep it up!"
At Orson's words, Al, Lippi, and Pippi nodded. They loaded the dead Big-Mouthed Lizard onto the cart, which could fit three of this size. Al then moved back to spot the next group to catch another.
