Volume 2 Chapter 6 Mysterious Woman Carmilla
As Al was looking at the wooden request boards hanging on the Adventurer's Guild wall, a woman approached him. Her long blonde hair was shiny, and she was quite beautiful. She looked to be in her early twenties, about the same height as him, with a bit heavy makeup, and he could smell her perfume. The neckline of her shirt was wide open, and he couldn't help but stare.
"Hello, Mr.Al~♡."
She suddenly said this and came closer. He had never talked to her before, so he looked at her with a puzzled expression.
"I'm sorry for calling out to you so suddenly. I heard from Barbara that there's an amazing newcomer in this city, so I thought I'd try to be friends. Is that a bother?"
Saying this, she half-forced her arm to wrap around his and leaned her face in close. He could feel his arm touching her soft chest, and he wondered if she was doing it on purpose.
"Um, who are you?"
He asked, feeling a bit flustered.
"I'm Carmilla. I'm a really close friend of Barbara. We used to party together back in the day."
"Oh, I see. You were in the same party as Ms. Barbara."
While saying this, he suddenly grabbed her right wrist, which had sneaked into his pocket. Her fingers were caught on the leather pouch that he used as his wallet.
"This kind of trick is not okay."
He said, pushing her away. Carmilla smiled sweetly in response.
"Oh, that's strange. I was hoping to find something better."
"Um..."
Al didn't know how to respond, so he gave a vague smile. He had worked as a scout in the capital for a while, and during that time, he had picked up some skills in pickpocketing and lock-picking. He would never think of pickpocketing himself, but he understood the methods well and had learned how to defend against them. Maybe she knew that Barbara had made some money and overheard she talking, thinking Al had cash. Either way, this woman might be used to this kind of thing. If that's the case...?
"I'm going to raise my voice, you know?"
Carmilla sighed and pulled her fingers away from the leather bag's string, shaking Al's hand off.
"Come on, you're a man, right? Why are you reacting like that? I get it. Are you planning to turn me in? You wouldn't do that, right? I'd prefer if you didn't make a scene. I might get banned from here again. Hey, how about we go have a drink together as an apology? You could enjoy some time with a beautiful woman like me afterward, maybe?"
Al looked around. The Adventurers' Guild wasn't very crowded, and it seemed like not many people were paying attention to their exchange. Still, if he raised his voice here, it would quickly turn into a commotion. For some reason, Carmilla clung to Al in a flirty way. He could smell her strong perfume. From her reaction, it seemed like she was used to this. If that's the case, he had a way to handle it. While looking at Carmilla's seductive smile, Al smiled back and shook his head.
"I'm still too scared for my life. More importantly, I have a request. Let's just forget about this incident."
"Hmm... that's really boring."
She looked a bit disappointed as she pulled away from Al and leaned against the wall. Al kept a smile on his face but changed his tone slightly.
"Can you tell me where to find some garbage scrolls? There must be places like that in this city."
"Garbage scrolls? Oh, you mean those. You want something like that?"
Garbage scrolls are spellbooks that the magician guild doesn't guarantee the quality of. Normally, spellbooks found in ancient ruins are brought to the magician guild for appraisal before they get a buying price. However, some adventurers can't wait the weeks it takes for an appraisal or are unhappy with the results, so there are businesses that cater to them. These places often deal with forbidden spells and shady items, making them enemies of the magician guild.
"Don't mind me."
"Ah, well, you should try visiting Old Lady Lara on South 4th Street."
Al is not sure if what she said is true, but it's a lead for now. He still has some unlearned spellbooks, so that's his priority, but once he's done with those, he'll check it out. Al smiled and nodded at Carmilla's words. Then, as if the conversation was over, he went back to checking the wooden sign.
"Hmm, you're cold, aren't you? But you're not just a kid after all. You might be a little interesting. I like you. See you later~♡."
He doesn't know what she liked, but Carmilla said that and blew a kiss to Al before walking away.
