Volume 6 Chapter 28 The Fan Who Shows Up In The Middle Of The Night Is Unwelcome, But...

"It's true that the engagement talks are still ongoing, but for both the Egawa and Shiraha families, the priority is pretty low. Maybe it's a story that can be abandoned anytime, and no one would care."

"I guess you're right. Marriages between noble families are important connections that don't just depend on the individuals' intentions, but if that's the case, why have they left it untouched for so long?"

If it were really that important, they would've sent someone to negotiate the moment Mikage flew out. But instead, they left it for 3 years, and only now has Rouza finally shown up. It's definitely suspicious.

"Maybe the engagement story is just an excuse?"

"There's a possibility. It could be against us or someone else. What do you think, Mikage-san?"

Aina threw the question at Mikage, but Mikage shook her head with an apologetic expression.

"I'm sorry, but I don't know either. At least, I'm certain that I was brought back for a reason. That person doesn't often tell lies, even if he jokes around."

It seemed like we needed to hear the story from Rouza and the others, but for now, we had to close the discussion. We couldn't come to a conclusion without more elements. If we didn't clarify things, it would be hard to persuade Rouza and the others.

──But the situation started moving faster than we thought.

 'Partner, wake up.'

The city lights, already few, grew even dimmer in the dead of night.

Gram's telepathy echoed in my mind, and I rubbed my sleepy eyes, getting out of bed. I bit back a yawn, glaring at Gram, which was standing against the wall.

"What the hell, Gram? Don't ask me to wake up. Isn't it pitch black outside?"

'Complaints later. There's something weird going on right now.'

"...Hey, cut me some slack, okay?"

The voice in my head was dead serious. I realized this wasn't a normal disturbance of my sleep, so I quickly got dressed and grabbed my black spear.

 'Glad we can talk quickly.'

"It's only natural, given our relationship. I'm sure you understand I'm being serious."

I put on my belt with a machete and a dagger amulet, and as I stood up, the door opened.

"Sorry to disturb you at night."

Mikage appeared, not in her night clothes but in combat gear, sword at the ready. Kyunei and Aina were standing behind her, also dressed for battle.

"As expected of Yukina-sama. You've already sensed it, haven't you?"

Mikage praised my gear, but her expression was dead serious.

"This weird feeling... I still don't know what it is."

"That's more than enough. ...I've been feeling a bad vibe around the clinic since earlier."

It seemed Mikage had sensed the same thing as Gram. The fact that she had woken up Aina and Kyunei before me showed how serious the situation was.

 "Aina-chan, do you understand?"

"No, I don't. But if the two say so, it must be true."

Aina and Kyunei looked sleepy, but they were trying to bear with it. They seemed to understand that the situation was unusual, and I was grateful for their trust in me.

At first, I didn't understand it well either, but I gradually felt a growing sense of discomfort that stuck to my skin. It was similar to the sensation I experienced the other day. It was in the forest, when I was surrounded by Rouza and their group.

'Their presence is getting stronger. We're completely surrounded.'

 Who are these people?

'It's definitely not someone we know. At least, I'm sure they're not fans of yours, partner.'

Who would silently surround our house at night and claim to be fans? I'll definitely refuse them.

Suddenly, Mikage grasped the hilt and placed her hand on the scabbard.

 "──I'll go!"

Immediately after her short and sharp cry, the sound of the clinic's entrance door bursting open echoed, followed by the sound of something else breaking. It was probably a window being smashed with force.

And, of course, the window in my room was destroyed as well.

The one who jumped into my room was a mysterious figure wearing a cloak that seemed familiar.

The unwanted visitor confirmed my presence, then silently drew their sword and──.

 "Oooaaaahhh!!"

Before the mysterious figure could attack, I threw my black spear, and its butt end struck their face. With a bit of Enchantment - Weight Increase, it had the power of a blunt instrument swung with all one's might. The attacker's nose bone was crushed, and they were bleeding as they fell backward.

 "Well done."

 "As always, you're merciless, Yukina-kun."

First, it was Mikage, and then Kyunei spoke up.

"I think it's better if you just pointed the spearhead at them and left it at that."

It was clear they intended to harm us, so I didn't hold back my anger. Just in case, I crushed the attacker's leg, who had lost consciousness, under my foot. Aina's face contorted in shock, saying "Uwah!" but I couldn't care less about that right now.

The clinic suddenly became chaotic. From the multiple footsteps echoing outside, I realized that there were more people coming besides the attacker I had just taken down.

 "Ice Wall!"

Aina's magic froze the door shut, and she turned to us.

"This should buy us some time. But, this clinic is too narrow to fight back, and we'll end up causing more damage to the building itself. Let's escape from here first."

Everyone nodded in agreement, and Mikage took the lead.

"I'll go first. I'll secure the escape route."

She drew her sword and leaped out the window frame. Immediately after, the frozen door was struck from the outside. They must be trying to break it somehow.

"I prioritized short-term strength, so it won't break immediately, but it won't hold out for long! Hurry up!"

"Ugh, this is ridiculous! They're doing whatever they want in someone's home!"

As we heard the sounds of destruction coming from all directions in the clinic, Aina prompted Kyunei to get out, and she grumbled while escaping through the window. After confirming she was completely outside, Aina followed. I covered the rear, preparing for a pursuit from inside the building.

 "Yukina-san."

I followed her voice, pulled out Gram, and jumped out the window in one swift motion.
