Volume 12 Chapter 8 The Black Giant Stands Up
We finally reached the Slum, guided by the pillar of flames rising from the ruins.
There, standing amidst the bloodstains, was Sur, holding a lump of coal. Sur was munching on something, and the coal in his hand looked like a fist.
"...Oh, it's Wade-sama and the others. Just in time, I've finished my task."
"Sur, you――."
"Yes. I've finally devoured the last one, Sister Sirina. This is the final piece."
Sur showed me his fist-shaped hand, then opened his huge mouth and took a big bite. Two, 3 bites, and it was all over.
"With this, I've finally gathered all my last pieces, I suppose."
"..."
I stood facing Sur, wary of his strange atmosphere.
Sur was even more unpredictable than before. His troubles seemed unresolved, yet he was pretending to be carefree.
With a forced, cheerful attitude, Sur flashed a fearless smile at us.
"Ah, you've arrived. So, it's come to this. When you gather everything, it becomes like this, huh."
Something seemed to be happening inside Sur, as he repeatedly opened and closed his hands.
Then, he said something to me:
"Wade-sama, I don't know how much power I can gain, but I'll do my best."
"Huh?"
With a creak, Sur started walking. He disappeared behind the ruins in an instant. Before I could even think, a massive, black hand grasped the top of the ruins.
"Well"
A dark, black-skinned giant with flames occasionally flaring up, its wavy hair covering its face, making its expression unreadable. A giant tens of meters tall.
It stood up, holding a massive, tens-of-meters-long sword of flames.
"Let's start the battle!"
A sword of flames is swung down.
'――――'
I was dodging it with my life on the line.
It was an incredible blow. A pillar-like sword, several tens of meters long, with flames that seemed to weigh as much as they looked. It was swung down with a speed and sharpness that rivaled a master swordsman's.
If I didn't have Ice on my back, I would've been caught off guard and crushed. That's why I can confidently say...
――Having Ice on my back was a good thing, indeed.
I fall back. I look around for the safest spot and call out "Toxy!"
"Can you get Ice to safety? Can I count on you?"
"Yeah! Leave it to me!"
I hand over Ice. Behind me, a massive shadow stands up again.
It's Clay's Typhon.
"We'll take the first hit!"
'Gahahaha! Clay, today's blood is delicious!'
In just a few seconds, Typhon has grown to an enormous size, rivaling Surt. It swings its massive fist.
'I'll take you down with one hit! Eat this!'
And then...
It flashes by.
Typhon's fist is knocked down by Surt's sword before it can even swing. The sword's flash then cuts through Typhon's body.
But Surt's sword flash doesn't stop there. It accelerates its speed, trying to crush Typhon into a massive boulder, a rock, and finally into dust.
'Clay! Get out of there!'
Clay is expelled from Typhon. Immediately after, Surt's final blow is unleashed.
Typhon's body crumbles.
"...!"
Anyone who saw this battle would have the same impression.
Too fast.
Even for a giant, it's unmatched. It's a sword speed that even a skilled human swordsman would be proud of, rivaling a master's.
"Get out of the way, Clay!"
Next to jump out was Sandra.
Light on her feet and quick. With Sandra's exceptional evasion and defense capabilities, she could easily take the lead.
Sandra first jumped into the air and unleashed "Thunderbolt Burst," releasing a dazzling flash of lightning. Along with the blinding brightness, Sandra's lightning bolt exploded.
I watched to see how effective it would be. Giants are generally thought to be tough, just like Typhon. I wanted to see how Sandra's lightning would affect him.
So, I closed my mouth.
With a massive body over several dozen meters tall, Surt was dodging Sandra's lightning and counterattacking.
"Huh?"
Surt's sword flashed, but it passed right through Sandra without hitting her. Sandra's evasion was supported by her Svadhisthana Chakra. However, Sandra's face looked bad.
"Wade..."
Sandra said, looking at me with a pale face.
"The single blow was too powerful, and my Svadhisthana Chakra stopped..."
Surt's flame sword then struck Sandra directly.
The consecutive attacks were so fast that even I couldn't dodge them. Sandra was torn apart, blown away somewhere.
All that was left was the trail of flames from Surt's sword. Surt stood with his sword at the ready, his face hidden behind his bangs, and said:
"Clay-sama and Sandra-sama are extremely strong. If I were in a different mythological realm, it wouldn't have turned out like this..."
But Surt continued, his killing intent sharpening, directed at me.
"However, this is Nilfheim. In the Norse mythology realm, this is one of the places where the power of those related to Ragnarok is strongest. Even the Norse god Odin would be inferior to me now."
I recovered with Ajna Chakra and saw Surt. This land is supported by Surt's overwhelming power.
"Is that so."
I understand.
"Fighting against the main gods and enemies in their field is like this, huh."
Surt's sword is swung down towards me.
And I——————————————
——————couldn't stop laughing.
"Hah, hah, hah, hah, hah, hah, hah, hah, hah!"
I prepare Durandal. I cast "Object Weight Reduce" and "Object Repulsion" on Surt. Normally, it would fly away in the air, but it doesn't because of the grip on my feet.
I stab Durandal into the ground and cast "Weight Increase" on myself. It's extremely heavy, but the defense performance I can get for an instant is higher.
I gave up on dodging from the start. It was clear that it was impossible. So I took the attack. And I was laughing hysterically.
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh man, Surt, your attack is too heavy!?"
I couldn't block it and was blown away. I use gravity magic to adjust my posture in mid-air.
But there, Surt's counterattack was approaching.
Dodging is impossible. Defense that was impossible even on the ground can't be done in mid-air.
So I switched to offense. It's okay if I take a few hits. First, I'll land one hit, and I, as usual, released a powerful Durandal strike amplified by gravity magic.
However, Surt dodged it. While I was sure I landed a hit, Surt used the remaining speed to bend its body and closed in on me at an extremely close range.
My lower body was gone, and the sword of Surtr was closing in on me. But the scale of it was more like being crushed than pierced.
I tried to make myself lighter than air to somehow dodge it.
But Surt's sword hit me.
I should have been able to dodge it with just a slight breeze, but I was pierced by the giant's swift attack and destroyed along with the ruins behind me.
The ruins collapsed, scattering dust everywhere as they crumbled.
I crawled out of the wreckage, laughing.
"Haha, fuha, this is crazy! I'm way out of your league. I can't win against you. I was told I was one of the strongest in the world, but I'm not even a match for this guy. This is ridiculous!"
This is just too funny. What's going on here? Is this really the difference in power?
"And to think, that sword has some crazy sorcery on it. Every time I get hit, my Anahata Chakra screams in pain. If I take another hit, my immortality will be destroyed!"
I crawled out, and just then, my limit was reached and I collapsed. That's when Surtr's voice rose.
"You're not going to die from this, Wade-sama. Running away is not like you."
Shut up, you jerk, I thought, trying to stand up. But Surtr's opening punch was too effective, and my body wouldn't listen to me.
That's when a hand was extended in front of me.
"Wade, you idiot! If you saw that coming, you should have dodged it first! You can't win without a strategy!"
"Gyur, vi..."
"Aaah, you can't even stand up?! Fine, I'll help you, so at least try to cling to me!"
Gyurvi carried me on his small body, no bigger than an elementary school kid's, and quickly took off using sorcery. I was grateful for that, and at the same time, I was thinking about my rematch against Surtr.
