Volume 12 Chapter 25 The Breakthrough Point Is In The Twin Heads

After hearing Ice's story from the Communication Ring, the Calling Ring, I shared it with Mudi.

"...Are those twin heads, like, fighting each other?"

"That's right. I figured they'd be in some weird shape. But if that's the case, what's the other head doing?"

As Mudi tilted his head, I continued.

"At first, Jormungand's twin heads were fighting each other. But when I took my eyes off them for a second, one of them attacked me. I think that's when one of the heads went down."

"That makes sense... So, one of the two heads is targeting us, probably Mung-san is alive, and the other... probably Gand-san is unconscious."

 "Ah."

But the twin heads are still connected. They haven't been broken or dropped. If one of them is just unconscious, we can wake it up and make it our ally.

"So, here's what we need to do."

I explained to the two of them.

"We need to cut off the current head near the base and make it fall. That way, the body's mass will be around one to 9 between Mung and Gand. Then, we just need to wake up the sleeping one and feed it, and Jormungand will become our complete ally."

"That's right. I think that's a good plan. The problem is, how do we cut off Jormungand's head?"

"Hey, stupid disciple, lend your sword to Typhon. If you make it bigger, even Typhon can handle it."

"That's reassuring. Can you do it, Typhon?"

'HAHAHAHA! IMPOSSIBLE IS NOT IN MY VOCABULARY!'

In Clay's hand, Typhon was in high spirits. Despite being only the size of a palm, its current maximum length was one kilometer. This thing is amazing.

"By the way, how big does Typhon get in its true form?"

'Ah? My head pokes out from the highest cloud!'

 I didn't know, but it's ridiculously huge.

 Anyway, that's it.

Here's the plan. Typhon will grow to its full length of one kilometer, and I'll hand over the enlarged Durandal. Then, I'll use the recovered magical power to fly and cut off its head.

What I couldn't do in my human form, I can do with Typhon's help. If Typhon cut off his neck and he charges in, Jormungand's head will definitely fall off.

The only concern is Jormungand's regeneration ability...

 "Mudi, what do you think?"

"It's not bad. His healing ability probably comes from his snake faith. If it's not based on mythology, it shouldn't have an extraordinary effect like Anahata Chakra."

We nod in agreement. Unanimous decision. We're going to take on him again.

We peeked out from behind the rubble, observing his condition. From anywhere in the city, his figure comes into view.

He has grown again. He's almost reached a length of 20 kilometers (≈ 12.4 miles), an enormous body.

We're going to challenge him now.

"Okay, let's do it." "Roger that." "Alright."

 We set off.

 "Typhon, one more time!"

 'WOOOOOO!'

Clay falls to the ground, and a giant 50 meters tall (≈164 feet) rises from the earth, absorbing the rubble as it grows bigger and bigger.

It didn't take long to reach a length of one kilometer. Clay muttered, "I've got a sense of it," as if he had gotten used to it in the second round.

Then, Jormungand, who had been keeping a certain distance, noticed us and began to approach. He moved like a normal snake. One of his 2 heads still seemed to be unconscious.

"Clay, just like last time, Mudi and I can each take one turn to protect Typhon from Jormungand. If you can hold out for tens of seconds, we can recover, but if not, you'll need 2 layers of defense."

 "Alright, got it, Wade-kun."

"You idiot disciple, hand over the sword already. Hey, Typhon. Can you take down that snake's head with this sword?"

 'Whoa! Mudi, it's easy peasy!'

I enlarged Durandal and handed it over to Typhon, who enlarged it further and slung it over his shoulder. It was an incredible size. I was reminded of Gold's abnormal strength once again.

Typhon and Jormungand were rapidly closing in on each other. I calculated their speed with my eyes.

 "Three."

Jormungand stopped. But he didn't come to a complete halt - he just stopped moving forward. His speed was being carried by the inert tail side, which was being swung around by the unconscious double head.

 "Two."

Typhon didn't stop running. He let out a loud, high-pitched laugh - "Hahahahaha!" - as he charged forward.

 "One."

Typhon was about to take Jormungand's attack. I prepared my gravity magic and took a deep breath.

 "Zero."

 'Come onnnn! Jormunganddddd!'

Typhon jumped into action, holding Durandal at the ready.

 "Let's go! Object Point Shift!"

I shouted the curse words and lifted Typhon's massive body. He dodged Jormungand's attack with incredible force and leaped over his head.

"Damn, I'm out of magical power!"

"Wade, take a break. I'll take over next."

Mudi stepped forward. Jormungand opened his huge mouth and shot a liquid at us.

"Toxic fluid, eh? That's cute... You think I'd fall for that, you trash?"

Mudi jumped and touched the toxic fluid Jormungand released. The fluid suddenly gained a life of its own, squirming and solidifying into a spear-like shape that fit into Mudi's hand.

"Let's get one shot in first!"

Mudi launched the toxic spear, piercing Jormungand's eye. "HISSSSSS!" Jormungand screamed in agony.

"Now, Typhon, go! Show us your power!"

'Ah! Clay! With Poseidon's authority added to your hand, let's take it down with one strikeeeee!'

Then Typhon swung Durandal. Inside Typhon, Clay chanted the curse words.

 "Quake, Desiccation!"

Durandal began to vibrate. Typhon's sword extended even further, just inches from a direct hit. And in the instant it struck Jormungand's neck, it happened.

The part of Jormungand's body that touched Durandal lost its water content, withered, and became extremely brittle.

"Desiccation. One of the great magics that I've acquired the power to wield. If I strike the ground, it'll bring desertification to the surrounding area. For humans, it's a single hit that turns them into a sandcastle."

 "DAAAAAAARAASHAAAAAAA!"

Buzz! With a loud, intense sound, Durandal dug into Jormungand's neck.

However, Jormungand's regenerative powers were still active, even though they were withered. The severed parts started to reattach themselves from the cut area.

But it was slower than before.

And Typhon didn't let that chance slip away.

 'Right here! It's going down!'

With a kick, Typhon sent Jormungand's half-severed head flying. The massive, heavy kick was unleashed—

 Finally, Jormungand's head flew off.

The head, carried by its momentum, danced in the air. I watched with my eyes as the gigantic snake's head drew a parabolic trajectory.

A moment later, Typhon rotated and landed safely on the ground. "Return it!" Typhon said, tossing Durandal casually, and I caught it with my hand, instantly shrinking it and returning it to my waist.

Jormungand's head crashed to the ground, scattering debris as it bounced. His massive body also lost its strength and collapsed, causing large-scale destruction to the buildings.

 "What's going to happen now?"

His head was still hundreds of meters in diameter, like a small meteorite. Even in this state, it wouldn't be strange for it to rise again as a threat.

On the other hand, what about the other twin head that had lost its dominance? Since it was our enemy's enemy, we thought of it as an ally, but――

Just then, applause erupted between me and Mudi.

I turned around. Rollo was sitting on Typhon's shoulder, clapping and saying, "Wow, masters are amazing~♡!"

 "...Rollo."

"Wow~, Masters, you're really strong, aren't you? I mean, you can even beat Surtr and Fenrir in a normal fight. And Jormungand is incomplete, right?"

Rollo puffs out her cheeks and stomps her feet, looking like she's about to complain.

"And to make matters worse, Ice-sama is going to turn the tables, so we can't even bluff our way out of this! If we get defeated by Jormungand because of its incompleteness, I'll be in big trouble, won't I~?"

Rollo gives a silly laugh, da-da-da~, and smiles at me.

"I've decided to deceive everyone, Rollo-style~!"

 "...Deceive, what do you mean?"

I stare at Rollo with a stern face, thinking it's just an illusion. So, Mudi doesn't attack Rollo, just watching her.

 "Hehe~, Masters~♡."

 Rollo giggles and asks me,

"Who said that Mung-ojisan was that head?"

 "...Wh...!?"

I'm caught off guard. I quickly crouch down, stretching my hand out to the fallen head on the ground, trying to cast a spell.

But I'm too late. The remaining Jormungand has already bitten into the head.

With his large mouth open wide, Jormungand swallows the head whole, merging with the enemy he was fighting. He devours the enemy that was defeated and absorbed.

It all happened in an instant. In that brief moment, the two-headed creature falls into Jormungand's stomach and starts to disappear.

 And then, Mung says,

"I make you in trouble, girl. You've got them fooled."

"Hehe~, that's right! Rollo has deceived everyone with 2 lies~♡."

Rollo giggles and sticks out her tongue.

"There are 2 things. One is putting Mung-ojisan to sleep. The other is casting an illusion on Gand-san, making it seem like Master is Rollo, and causing chaos to the point where we can't have a proper conversation."

That's why Jormungand hasn't been able to have a decent conversation until now, and I'm amazed by Rollo's story.

"Whoa~, it looks like Rollo is going to have some time to search for Kyrie-oneesan! So, Mung-ojisan, don't lose too quickly, okay~?"

"Hah, who's talking to me like that, you little girl? I'm Jormungand, the monster who fought against Thor, the strongest god in Norse mythology, and came out even!"

The incomplete, 2-headed Jormungand has become complete and even more gigantic. The giant Jormungand, now over a kilometer long, looks down on us from high above as we ride on the Typhon.

"You may have caused a ruckus in other mythologies, but this is Nilfheim, my home turf!"

A frog glared at by a snake. The Typhon let out a bewildered cry, "W...o...w..."

 And then, Jormungand said this:

"Wade-san, Clay-san, sorry, but I'm going to win this."

The enormous world serpent turned his body around.
