Volume 11 Chapter 33 Piece Won't Fall Into Place
That night, Kyrie was crying.
"Leader, it's time to talk. What happened?"
Lillu, the beast-girl, asked, but Kyrie just shook her head. Lillu let out a disappointed sigh, "Damn it..."
"You're saying that, Lillu, but have you ever seen the Leader like this before? It's pretty serious."
"But, you know..."
The two of them seemed to be worried. But Kyrie's heart wasn't listening.
――――After that, Kyrie desperately tried to escape.
Even with the giant snake binding them, they somehow managed to move their body inch by inch and barely activated their sorcery...
Kyrie's sorcery is strong.
It's a sorcery that rivals their father's Domain Control. So, if they could use it properly, they could have escaped even from that desperate situation.
But that was impossible. Their sorcery couldn't be controlled with their unsettled heart. Kyrie was doing their best just to escape.
"Ugh... Papa...! Papa...!"
Ever since then, the image of Rollo devouring their father Chiero has been stuck in Kyrie's head.
They want to kill him. They want to devour him. But Kyrie can't defeat their father. Rollo, who devoured their father, has more power than him.
So, all Kyrie could do was cry themselves to sleep. And that's what they did, crying all day in bed.
"...But I can't just leave it like this"
Gand, the giant with scales on his cheek, said that and entered Kyrie's room.
"Leader, excuse me."
"...? Whoa, no..."
Gand thought to himself, and then lifted Kyrie onto his shoulders. Kyrie was struggling, but since they were still crying, they didn't have the strength to resist.
"No way, what are you doing?! You're so mean!!"
"Alright, Lillu. I've got the gold coin pouch. Let's head to the tavern with the leader and get them drunk.
"Gand loves to drink, doesn't he? It's fine! The leader who won't cheer up no matter how much we comfort them is the bad one!"
"Stop it, stop it!!"
Carried by Gand, Kyrie left the house.
Klainatzirks, the 3 of them lived in one corner of the circus, like a family. They got along really well.
After struggling for a bit, Kyrie gave up and let Gand carry them. Gand walked with a carefree stride, chatting with Lillu.
"Go ahead... do as you like..."
Kyrie slumped, gazing blankly ahead. Since there was nothing they could do, they had already given up.
The circus had lost its leader, and the city was trying to return to its usual lively state. If Kyrie's father were still alive, the circus would have continued, no doubt.
"...Ugh, hgh..."
"Aww, the leader's crying again!"
"Something really serious must have happened. Well, let's drink today. We'll splurge. Eat and drink a lot, and vent out your frustration, Leader."
The two friends were being kind, and Kyrie started crying even more. "Uwah...!" They rubbed their eyes, which were overflowing with tears, and the 3 of them continued walking down the night road.
There, Gand bumped into someone. The person bounced off Gand's huge body and fell to the ground with a thud.
"Whoops!"
"Hmm..."
Lillu and Gand, the two of them, peeked at Kyrie, who was shouldering a burden.
When Klainatzirks gets into some kind of trouble, Kyrie judges on the spot how to act.
"...Be kind."
With Kyrie's words, the two of them moved without hesitation.
"Sorry about that. Can you stand up?"
"Gand, look ahead and don't trip, okay!"
"Sorry, leader..."
Kyrie got off Gand, still feeling down, and watched as things unfolded.
Gand picked up the person. It seemed to be a woman with jet-black skin, wrapped in a robe, her slender body trembling.
"...Leader."
There, Lillu, who had sensed something, rushed over to Kyrie and whispered.
"This person is Sirina, the Left General of the Demon King's army. Rumor has it that she's the only surviving high-ranking officer."
"...Is that so?"
Gand pretended not to notice, maintaining a gentle tone, saying "Are you okay?"
That person――Left General Sirina――nodded vigorously, said "Thank you," and walked away.
"What do we do, Leader?"
As they watched her leave, Gand asked Kyrie.
Kyrie thought for a moment before answering.
"...Since she's the only survivor, that means she just lost her family. Let's spare her."
Here, Kyrie wasn't heartless enough to bring about further tragedy.
To the Demon, it's normal to kidnap a weakened authority figure and exchange them for gold, but maybe this time, it wouldn't be necessary.
...At least, that's what Kyrie thought now.
So, Kyrie started walking away quickly, trying to distance themselves. Lillu and Gand chased after them, shouting "Wait, Leader!" and "What's going on suddenly?"
Because they were so caught up in their emotions, Kyrie didn't realize the weird feeling they had until later.
Right in front of them, 4 strange people appeared from the darkness, lit up by the city lights.
"...?"
If they took a few more steps, they could reach out and touch them. It was only when they realized how close they were that Kyrie stopped in their tracks.
"Finally stopped, Leader... Who are those people?"
"Probably just some thugs. Nothing special. Let's crush them and go to the tavern."
Lillu said, stepping forward. Gand, fueled by his fighting spirit, also stepped forward alongside Kyrie.
Meanwhile, Kyrie just stood there, staring ahead in a daze.
It took Kyrie a little time to understand what kind of people they were.
There were 2 people of average build, one tall man, and a small girl standing between them.
When Kyrie realized who they were, she held her breath.
"Uh, ah, meh..."
"Huh? What's wrong, Leader?"
"Leader's going to join in too? Let's make it a mess and have some fun!"
The two of them said something nonchalant like that. Kyrie took a deep breath and shouted.
"No way! Run!"
The next instant.
Lillu and Gand were immobilized, bound by ropes and a snake.
"Gaah!" "Ugh...?"
Lillu was suddenly tied up by ropes that came out of nowhere. Gand was crushed by a giant snake that had transformed from their hand.
However, both of them were barely alive, with just enough power to cling to life. The two of them, each with their own demon, approached and touched their bodies.
"This is the last one, huh? Looks delicious. I never knew that a divided soul could look like this until I saw Don Fen."
"Hehe, this one looks like it's got some fight left in it. And taking back a divided soul is quite an interesting prospect, isn't it?"
The young demon-like creature grasped Lillu, while the cat-backed, snake-like demon grasped Gand, each of them restraining their respective targets.
Kyrie watched in despair, their eyes fixed on the scene. And then, from the shadows, Rollo emerged.
"Hey there~♡ Kyrie-oneesan! Long time no see! You're looking well, aren't you?"
"A, ah, you, you, how, why...!"
"That's because the three of you are the last 3 pieces, of course!~."
Rollo laughed, saying such a thing. The last 3 pieces. What could it mean? Impossible.
Rollo began to speak, accompanied by an evil grin.
"Thanks to your strength, we were able to escape unnoticed~, and now we've got all 3 of you gathered here~!"
Kyrie trembled, overcome with fear. But it wasn't just fear.
It was hatred. The intense hatred that had been robbed of everything was stirring Kyrie up. Kyrie stood up, determined to devour this detestable child with every fiber of her being.
"Oh~! Kyrie-oneesan is getting serious~! It's a shame, though~. If only you had made up your mind to do it when your father was on the brink of death~..."
"I'll kill you... I'll devour you...! It's your own fault, no matter what! Kyrie can't move forward unless she kills you!"
As Kyrie shouted, a demon with a dark brown complexion appeared before her. With just one glance, it was clear that this demon possessed extraordinary power.
"Huh? Uncle Sur, are you going to protect me?"
"...You still haven't gotten used to your body's strength, have you? I have a lot of experience. Leave it to me."
"Okay, I'll leave it to you then. Take care!"
Rollo waved her hand, and the brown demon stepped forward.
Kyrie took a deep breath in front of the enemy, then slowly stroked their chest.
Kyrie's sorcery activated. Unlike the father Chiero's magic, which created a huge illusion that confused the surroundings, Kyrie's magic added an illusion to their own body.
The important thing was the image. No matter how strong the opponent was, they had to imagine themselves winning. They were the one who embodied the illusion.
Kyrie clenched their fist. The brown demon held the Sword of Fire. They would break through the demon, then eat Rollo, and finally kill the other two who were restrained.
Kyrie ran.
In an instant, Kyrie had entered the brown demon's embrace. "You're fast!" the demon exclaimed, and Kyrie struck its body with the palm of their hand.
Blood and internal organs spilled out of the demon's mouth. Kyrie's single blow was enough to kill it.
"Guh, ha...!?"
"Next!"
Kyrie jumped over the demon's body and punched Rollo. Unlike their father, who hid their location during battles, Kyrie's punch could knock Rollo down if it hit.
"Whoa, Kyrie's so strong!"
"Next!"
Kyrie broke through Rollo and crushed the remaining two enemies. They were restrained and couldn't even fight back.
Finally, Kyrie turned around and picked up Rollo. They grabbed its neck and crushed its small body with their arm strength.
"Hey, do you have anything to say? You're taking everything from Kyrie so easily..."
"U, gu, gu, well, that's..."
Rollo said this with a carefree attitude.
"I don't think it's bad. Because this is, after all, a demon."
Rollo snapped her fingers. At the same time, Kyrie faced reality.
"Eh...?"
Kyrie was pinned to the ground from behind, stabbed with the Sword of Fire held by the dark-skinned demon. Both hands were severed from the wrists, with the cut surfaces burned.
"How about it, Uncle Sur?"
"They were strong. With just one clone and no Domain Control, their strength was honestly astonishing."
"Yeah, yeah! Kyrie-oneesan was the last piece, after all! It was great! If there was anything left uneaten, it'd be a waste, right?"
"Eh, eh, eh."
Kyrie's voice was filled with confusion. Why? She should've won, right? But...
It's their father's sorcery...
"Rollo...Rolloooooo! ."
"Hehe, that's right. It was a bluff from the start, leaving it to Uncle Sur. I showed you an illusion, and it went like this."
Rollo touched Kyrie's head with a pleased expression. While doing so, she said:
"Kyrie-oneesan's ability is strong, isn't it? You got the power I thought you would, right? It's simple but really strong. Uncle Sur is ridiculously fast and strong, but you were faster for an instant."
"Ah, yeah. If Rollo-sama didn't have sorcery, it would've been a close call. If we didn't have Domain Control, I wouldn't have thought we could win."
She lost. This is a battle where she can't afford to lose.
Kyrie looked at the two people who were also bound.
Lillu was still gazing at Kyrie with eyes that seemed to be clinging to her. Her unwavering, absolute trust in her eyes, unchanged since the past.
Gand was looking at Kyrie with a gaze that seemed to say "it can't be helped." Gand, who was almost on equal terms with Kyrie, was thinking that if Kyrie couldn't win, then it was hopeless.
"Aa, aah, aaaa, aaaaaah...!"
Kyrie was struggling. But the Sword of Fire had pierced their body, and they couldn't do anything about it. It just hurt, and it was painful.
Rollo approached them.
"Big Sister, you're crying! But I can understand how you feel. Losing family is sad, you know. I've experienced it too. I got angry at the gods and was imprisoned."
Rollo's teasing tone made Kyrie growl.
"Kill you! I'll take everything from you and kill you! Rollo!"
"Don't say that. It's meaningless. Because originally there was only one demon... a single Demon King, right? You can't hate yourself, can you?"
"...What? A single Demon King?"
"Hehe~. A single one, that's all~. You were originally a god, after all~."
Rollo sought agreement from the 3, but they all shook their heads in unison.
"Rollo is telling you, we're all monsters. Maybe even the Demon King themselves."
"Yeah, just as missy said. I'm not gonna bother explaining the situation to you. You're like Demon King Hel-sama's, after all."
"Yes, and I used to be a giant, but I'm not a god."
"Huh~? Well, it's almost the same thing, right~? Anyway, Kyrie-oneesan♡."
Rollo grabs Kyrie's head. Kyrie shakes her head, saying "No, no, no, stop it!"
"Time for the final piece, here I go!"
Rollo bites into Kyrie's skin. Rollo's small teeth easily pierce through Kyrie's skin.
At that moment, Kyrie thought it was all over for her.
"Domain Control, Sword of Surt!"
The surroundings instantly become pitch-black, and Kyrie, along with Rollo and the others, are caught off guard.
"――What in the world is this Domain Control?"
A dark-skinned demon, called Sur, speaks up. Immediately after, Kyrie pulls out the sword she is sewing on and is picked up by someone.
"Ahh! Kyrie-oneesan's been taken!"
"What's going on?! They've taken their beastkin friends too!"
"Me too! They've taken one!"
Rollo's companions start shouting. Suddenly, Lillu and Gand's voices can be heard from nearby, saying "What's going on?" and "What's happening?"
"What's going on? Who are you? Why are you helping us and saving Kyrie?"
The person responds to Kyrie's question.
"...I didn't save you. I just stopped Sur and those 4 from completing their plan."
Kyrie realized it with a voice. It was Sirina, the Left General, who had helped them escape just a moment ago. She had carried the 3 of them on her back and fled.
"For now, let's hide. We'll think about what to do afterwards once we've escaped."
Sirina ran through the darkness. As Kyrie heard Rollo's voice grow distant, they felt a sense of relief at having escaped danger.
When the darkness cleared, Renril, Mung, and Sur were staring at Rollo.
Rollo puffed out her cheeks and said in a sulky tone,
"Aww, I got beat~. I didn't expect Uncle Sur's sister would save then here..."
"...What are we going to do? At this rate, we won't be ready for tomorrow's siege."
"Meh~, but it's okay. If we had gathered from the start, it would've been one-sided anyway~."
Rollo chuckled, "Hehehe♡."
"What's important is having fun. Being happy. The process and struggles we face will surely lead to a great outcome♡."
"Rollo always does things on a whim like that."
"Big bro always says that too~."
Rollo puckered their lips at Renril's teasing remark. Then, "Ya~wn, I'm tired from playing with our masters today. I'm going to go home and sleep~?" she said, walking away.
