Volume 9 Chapter 30 Demon King Castle - First And Second Protection Towers
There are ten towers protecting Demon King Castle.
Two towers each in Bazaar, Slum, and Circus. Four towers are spaced out at equal intervals around the castle's foot.
It seems that the Demon King's main forces are guarding the area around the castle, including Sur's family.
There's Right General Rupt, Sur's brother. He's always engulfed in flames and is called the Incarnation of Fire.
Then there's Left General Sirina, Sur's sister. She's known as the Black Lady, and anything she touches is said to be burned to ashes.
And there's Commander-in-Chief Rutgal, Sur's father. He's a giant of a man, said to be as tall as the towers themselves. He might be a match for Typhon.
So, Sur told me that his brother guards one tower, his sister guards another, and his father guards 2 towers. That's the composition of the Demon King's army guarding the 4 towers around the castle.
But what about the 6 towers located outside the city?
They're not being neglected either. The Demon King's army has placed capable leaders in charge, and they're being protected.
However, the Demon King's army in these 6 towers is also playing a police-like role.
They won't go out of their way to protect ordinary pedestrians. But they do maintain public order in important areas like Queen Hell's designated zones and protect key organizations like the Merchant Guild.
What I'm saying is that the Demon King's army outside the city is busy, which means they might let their guard down.
"Sandra, it looks like the Merchant Guild's situation is similar to an empty shell. What about over there? Over."
"This side is also like an empty shell. It'll probably be easy to take over. But from what I saw with Ajna Chakra, there's a strong thread running through it. Over."
"This side too. Let's take it over for now and follow the plan. Over."
"Got it. Over."
I ended the conversation using the ring-shaped communication artifact, Coiling Ring, and emerged from the shadows.
Our plan is as follows.
First, Sandra and I, with our superior speed, will each take down one tower, and then quickly disable the Demon King's castle defenses. Next, we'll bring in Ice, who excels at suppression, to completely occupy the tower.
Finally, we'll contact the Demons to ensure that our occupation continues even when we're not around.
The problem is how reliable our allied Demons will be... Since the enemy's revival points overlap, it'll become an endless battle of bloodshed.
The Demons I brought from Bael's territory are all hot-blooded. They'll probably enjoy it.
Of course, there are many processes to complete before we reach this state. Alright, let's do our best!
"First, we'll occupy the tower at top speed!"
I approached the entrance on foot, and 2 Demon King soldiers standing at the entrance glared at me with suspicious faces.
It's not like there are no Demon King soldiers, but there are barely any, just the minimum.
So, even when they tried to stop me, saying "Hey! You in the mask Halt!", I didn't stop and approached them, saying.
"I'll just kill you and you'll revive, so it's fine like this."
I quickly swung my arm, deeply slashing their neck arteries. The 2 soldiers lost consciousness and fell to the ground. I picked them up with both arms.
"I'm invading, nice and easy!"
I opened the entrance door. There was no one inside. I put the 2 soldiers in a locker-like facility and locked it with my arm strength.
"Now, let's run!"
I cast gravity magic, strengthened my entire body with my second heart, Anahata Chakra, and started running. I found the stairs and sprinted up.
It seemed like this tower was designed to not let people climb up easily. The stairs were cut off midway, and you couldn't reach the next set of stairs without passing through the corridor.
It was a hassle to destroy and create a detour, so I simply ran through the corridor at high speed.
On the way, I witnessed the Demon King army's brutality.
"...This is terrible."
The stench in that prison area was so bad that I covered my mouth with my hand and scrunched up my face.
They were trapped, a bunch of sinners, I suppose. What was there was a group of demons who couldn't even breathe, left to rot with no mercy, constantly tortured by an automatic interrogation device.
Sweat, tears, blood, and filth. They emitted all kinds of stench, derived from human bodies, and were left to suffer in an extremely harsh environment, intentionally created to be hellish.
What is this place? I thought to myself as I walked, and soon, some remaining Demon King soldiers, who were laughing hysterically, approached me.
"..."
I was thinking of what to do, and I stuck myself to the ceiling using gravity magic. Then, the soldiers appeared and started talking to the sinners.
"Yo, today we're gonna teach you sinners the weight of your sins again!"
"Be grateful, you sinners! You're alive thanks to Demon King-sama's mercy, aren't you?"
"Yeah, we're not killing you because you'd just escape if you died, so we're taking care to keep you alive!"
The Demon King soldiers burst into loud laughter. The sinners started crying and screaming in weak voices, "Kill us, please...".
"..."
I knew what demons were. They were terrifying, but in this city, those called sinners were truly guilty. If I asked the soldiers, I'd probably hear some horrific crimes.
So, I wasn't going to help them. I didn't help, but I did feel disgusted.
Demons were trash. I couldn't understand what was fun about bullying the weak.
I hid myself and slipped past them, going further up.
I repeated this process for a few minutes, and soon I reached a room on the top floor. Looking down from the window, I estimated it to be around the 50th floor.
There was no one guarding it. The Demon King's army was probably busy with the merchant's affair.
"It's too empty. They're too careless. I'll take advantage of their carelessness."
Even as I was being cautious, I used my Ajna Chakra to search for my target.
My target. In other words, the switch to disable the Demon King Castle's protection.
"...Is this it?"
That was a large crest engraved on the wall. It reminded me of the ancient dragon's crest I saw earlier, or the contract crest carved by the witch. A similar crest was deeply etched into the wall.
"They're good at making it look like just a crest when you don't know anything about it. But this level is simple."
I dislike sorcery, but this one was made as a mechanism, so it wasn't that difficult. I placed my hand on the crest and channeled my magic. It was like threading a needle.
I extended my magic, hooked it onto the crest's sensor, extended it again, and finally connected it. Then, a high-pitched "screech" sound echoed.
"First, let's start with one."
Demon King Castle's Protective Tower. One of its roles was abandoned.
Suddenly, I sensed a commotion below. The remaining soldiers, who didn't expect an intruder, realized their defense had been breached.
I think Demon King Castle wasn't something demons needed to protect until now.
Originally, demons with faith in the Demon King didn't need to defend it, so they were complacent.
That's why a group of bandits like us could easily infiltrate the tower, and now they're panicking.
"Who are you?!"
I used gravity magic to slam the soldier who appeared against the wall, almost killing him. Then, the Communication Ring Coaling Ring vibrated.
I stroked it. I heard Ice's voice.
'Wade-kun, thank you for your hard work...! I've also arrived... Over.'
"Alright. Then, hide somewhere and send a large number of ice soldiers. I'll wait for the timing and escape. Over."
'Understood... Then, everyone, let's support Wade-kun...!'
The communication ended. I looked down from the window and saw the ice soldiers swarming into the tower from the distant ground. Even from a distance, they looked impressive.
But it's really high up here. The city looks like a miniature.
As I gazed at the scenery, I realized something. The tower's switch had been flipped, and the soldiers were starting to return.
But with the massive invasion of ice soldiers, they're in a state of panic and can't even launch a counterattack. The fact that the first soldier who challenged them was instantly crushed is also a huge blow. Moreover, they're not killing them, but instead, pinning them down with spears right where they are.
"You'd think that a normal demon soldier would be intimidated, right? One ice soldier is equivalent to a lower-ranked gold-class soldier. You can't even lift a finger or toe against them."
I let out a snort of laughter. And then, I noticed something like a wavelength, and when I looked up, I realized that Sandra's protection on the tower had been lifted.
"Heh, I see. So that's how it feels. If you're sensitive to magic, you'd notice it, wouldn't you?"
The sound of colors. With that image, the tower's switch was releasing a magic wave. Ice will probably send ice soldiers to the other tower from now on.
At that point, I sensed a massive presence approaching. The commander of the Demon King's army, who guards each tower, is the key to this battle strategy.
If left alone, they would have wiped out the ice soldiers and reached this point. That would mean our occupation wouldn't go smoothly. It's not a desirable situation.
But if we go down to confront them, that would be a complete reversal of our strategy. If the commander is revived, it'll definitely be here. Even if we win, it's meaningless if they're revived here.
So what do we do? I looked down at the ground, muttering to myself.
"Hey, crappy master. Get to work already!"
The moment I said that, a massive presence surged up, far surpassing the approaching commander's. And then, a voice whispered in my ear, as if it was right next to me.
'Don't get too cocky, you stupid disciple!'
I frantically turned around, but there was no one there. So I shouted back, "If you can hear me, then get to work already!"
