Volume 7 Chapter 27 Coin Castle, Destruction Of The Fire Brigade
Roman and I were on the roof of a building near Coin's castle, checking out the situation.
Coin's home is like a big mansion in the suburbs. It's huge, almost like a castle! It's at least 5 times bigger than my party house.
I sighed and said,
"Hmm, if only I had gravity magic. I could defeat everyone except Coin in an instant with Durandal. But then, I didn't do it because it wouldn't be fun."
Roman replied, "You're not going to do it, huh?"
"No way. Fighting against the Golden Sword is too exciting to miss!"
Even though I've become stronger, it's still not as fun as fighting against weak enemies.
But I'm ready to enjoy the battle ahead. My right arm's prosthetic is in perfect condition too.
...I really miss gravity magic, though. I wish I could get it back. It's like losing something precious... I miss you, gravity magic. When will gravity come back? Sniff.
Anyway, let's move forward. Roman and I jumped down from the roof and headed straight for Coin Castle's gate.
"Hey, stop right there! What are you doing here? Wait, it's 'Slow'!"
"Retreat! Let the Golden Sword's master handle 'Slow'! We can't take him on!"
The few guards at the gate quickly scattered like spiders. It seemed like Coin had given them orders to do so.
"Coin doesn't want any unnecessary harm, huh? That's pretty business-like."
Roman said, "As warriors, we don't run away without fighting. Let's see what happens when we clash!"
"It's good that we didn't join Roman's troop. We can prevent our soldiers from escaping too."
"The Fist of the Dragon army is a team of heroes. The rest are just criminals turned into dead soldiers. We can stop our soldiers from running away too."
"What's the truth about the Fist of the Dragon army? Is it a group of good people, or is it a hellhole?"
We were chatting casually when we suddenly broke through the gate. To be more specific, I used my special power, "Sahasrara Chakra's Rule of All Creation," which is like a super strong brain, to bend the gate with my bare hands.
"How did you do that?"
"I used my brain."
"Your brain? How is that possible?"
I just laughed and continued walking with Roman. Suddenly, a flickering shadow appeared from nowhere on the ground.
It was fire, but not just any fire.
It was like a person, standing up and moving around.
More and more of these fire people appeared, surrounding us. It was like a crowd of humans.
Then, an old lady's voice echoed,
"Fire soldiers, form a line Hold up your shields and spears! Create a phalanx formation! Now, let's surround and defeat the great hero 'Slow'!"
The fire soldiers transformed from blurry figures to clear shapes, holding up huge shields of flames and long spears that looked like molten lava. They surrounded us, forming a tight formation.
"This is quite an adventure," Roman said.
"Do you know who she is?" I asked.
"Yes, I do. I heard that she was the one who defeated all the monsters near Birk's territory a few years ago. She's 'The Commander of the Fire Brigade' Pyro, a legendary warrior with a golden sword."
I didn't know much about other adventurers, but I was impressed. "Wow, she's really strong!"
The formation was solid, and the fire soldiers were multiplying rapidly, filling the entire area. We were facing a group-type enemy.
I thought about similar enemies, like Ice and Puppet Master, and Roman's colleague Misty, who controlled a Phantom Beast Army.
Just because someone has a lot of simple tricks up their sleeve, it doesn't mean they're always safe. For an average adventurer, a gold-ranked adventurer is like a superhero who seems impossible to beat.
But, as I mentioned earlier, I know many people who have mastered these tricks. I know them, and I've survived. It's not like I've directly fought against their strongest powers, but I understand their secrets.
"Create Chain."
I stretched out my chain from my arm and touched it to the crystal eye. The crystal pieces stuck to the chain, and I pulled it out to a length of several dozen meters. The crystal eye shattered with a loud sound, and the pieces got tangled in the chain.
Then, I swung the chain with all my might.
"Explode, crystal pieces!"
The chain slashed through the air, and the crystal exploded right after.
In an instant, the fire soldiers were cut down. Roman looked surprised and said, "Wow, you're amazing!"
I smiled and said,
"You know, Roman, people who are as strong as gold rank or higher can be divided into 3 types."
"Tell me more," Roman said.
They lost about 80% of the fire soldiers in an instant, and an old lady's voice shouted, "Haha, you're really slow! But I'm not done yet!" The fire soldiers started to get back up again.
I ignored them and continued,
"There are 3 types of strong people: those who can't be killed, those who won't die, and those who aren't even there. Gold rank is usually one of these 3 patterns."
I held up 3 fingers and said, "Explode!" again, using the chain to slash the fire soldiers.
"Those who can't be killed are people with high defense or evasion skills. In my party, Clay and Sandra are like that. They can't be killed, but if you do kill them, they'll die."
I folded down my index finger, leaving 2 fingers up.
"Next, those who won't die are people like me and Toxy. It's easier to kill them than those who can't be killed, but they'll come back to life even if you kill them. You can kill them, but they won't die."
I folded down my middle finger and swung the chain again. Only my ring finger was left.
"Finally, there are those who aren't even there. The one we're fighting now is like that. Ice is the same. We fought directly, but in reality, my old man is like that too. They're people who take almost no risks in battle."
Since they're not even there, you can't kill them. That's because they're not even there. People like that.
"So, I've already figured out how to deal with people who aren't even there."
"Wait, did you just use that chain attack to buy time?"

With Roman's encouragement, a bright light from magic fills the air. I smile wryly and close my eyes, thinking, "This is still so cool, no matter how many times I see it."

I awaken my second eye, the Ajna Chakra.
Lately, I've been learning how to use it more deeply. The Ajna Chakra isn't just about seeing things, but about understanding and recognizing them.
It's like a special power that helps me knowing a human body.
So, when I use the Ajna Chakra, I can easily see where the thin threads of magic are coming from, even if they're hidden. It's like having a map to follow.
I use the Ajna Chakra to follow the magic threads, and they lead me to a secret place in the city, not in the castle.
I enter through a hidden door that looks like a dumpster, and go down the stairs. If I weren't careful, I would have died many times from the ancient curse that's set up here.
That's where I find an old lady. She's a strong adventurer who has mastered 2 powerful magic skills: the ancient curse and fire transformation magic. She's so strong that she's sweating from concentrating. When she notices me, she says,
'Ah... you found me. That's scary.'
But then she says,
'It's an honor to fight someone as strong as you and die. Please finish me off quickly.'
I nod, and my second brain, the Sahasrara Chakra, kicks in. Through the Ajna Chakra, I touch the old lady's heart.
Everything stops. The old lady's heart stops beating.
'...That's so kind of you. To give someone like me, who has killed thousands of people, such a gentle ending...'
Slowly, the old lady falls to the ground, still sitting. I open my real eyes, and the fire soldiers are already gone.
Roman looks at me with a mixture of surprise and fear, and asks,
"What did you just do, Wade?"
I feel a little unsatisfied, but I answer quietly.
"I found her and killed her."
