Volume 6 Chapter 13 Slaughter
"Well, let's get going. I'll take you to the battlefield where the legendary hero is."
Hearty walked up to me briskly and took my hand. Then he smiled and raised his other hand.
He was holding a mysterious thread. It was a thin, rainbow-colored thread that sparkled. It was supposed to be a short thread, but it seemed to be tied to something invisible.
"Are you ready?"
"Oh, I haven't received a weapon from Gold."
The plan was to get a weapon to replace the iron lump sword, but when I looked at Gold, he made a grimace under his bald head and said,
"Sorry... there are still some technical issues. I'll definitely have it ready before you fight the Fist of the Dragon, so please wait a little longer."
"Got it. Then I'm all set now, so please take care of me."
"Yeah, understood. Don't worry! It's rare for everything to be perfect on your first battle!"
As he spoke, Hearty pulled the thread hard.
At that moment, the scenery changed.
"Huh?"
I raised my voice, and we were already inside the base. I looked around. Countless soldiers were holding weapons and calling out to each other. In the distance, I could hear the sound of swords clashing and shouting.
"What happened?"
"This is the Ariadne's Thread, an artifact. It allows you to instantly move to a designated location. Everyone! I've brought the golden adventurer! We can turn the tide of the battle with this!"
In response to Hearty's call, the knights came up to us. "Thank you! Hearty-sama!" "You must be Wade, the one with black hair!" the knights said.
"First of all, thank you for coming, Wade the Slow. I've heard about you for a long time. Let's go to the battlefield near the cliff right away. Let me explain there."
We were led by the knights out of the base. The base seemed to be set up on a small hill, and we were able to get a rough view of the battlefield from the steep cliff.
"The battle situation is very simple. We have 800 mercenaries, and the enemy has 1000 soldiers. Moreover, the enemy is pushing us back with their high level of training."
I watch the situation as I'm told. It does look like we're being pushed back.
"As you can see, the conflict is taking place on a plain. There are no geographical factors that could be used for our strategy. The Karditsa advance party is steadily approaching defeat."
"So you're saying I should do something about that with my power?"
When I look at Hearty's face, he nods firmly.
"Yes, that's right. Of course, it's as my father said. We state our request, but leave the solution up to you. If you can break through the current situation in your own way, that's all we need."
At Hearty's words, I look back at the battlefield.
Swords clashing, magic flying through the air, and the people bleeding. Death is overflowing here.
And I think to myself.
It's lukewarm.
After thinking for a moment, I ask Hearty,
"Have you used archery attacks?"
"We have. The enemies' skill level is high, and they have shields, so it wasn't very effective."
"I see. They have shields... so arrows won't work. How many unused weapons do we have in stock?"
"You. We're not asking you to play at being a military strategist. We're asking you to use your extraordinary magic to sweep them away."
"That's why I'm asking these questions."
A knight who was explaining the situation complained, so I shrugged it off with a smile. The knight looked annoyed, while Hearty chuckled.
"It seems that's what he's trying to say. For now, just answer the question."
"Understood, Hearty-sama... Then, I'll answer."
The knight turns to me.
"We were planning to build a camp here and use it as a base after the advance party's victory, but that's not possible now. However, it should be around the time this battle ends."
"So we can't rely on supplied weapons, huh? Well, there's no choice."
I'll have to do it on my own. Since there are a lot of enemies, I would have liked to borrow some supplies, but oh well.
Let's take down a thousand enemy soldiers at once.
I moved on a little further from there and reached a place where there were no people around. Then I turned around, briefly said, "Please don't come any closer," and turned to the battlefield.
It's a place where I would fall straight down to the bottom if I took one step. The battlefield is about a few hundred meters from here. The enemy is about a thousand people. Roughly a thousand.
Well, I'll do my best.
"'Brahma.'"
I activate the Ajna Chakra and the Sahasrara Chakra. The second eye, the second brain, is activated, giving me the ability to recognize and a sense of omnipotence in the intellectual domain.
In the meantime, I think.
―――After some analysis, I have concluded that the Sahasrara chakra is the most suitable chakra for attack.
The "Rule of All Creation" is the most obvious example. It's a very powerful means of interfering with anyone other than yourself.
But that's just a matter of understanding how things will turn out.
Chakras should be more free. One can even separate theirselves from the ability to understand.
For example. The Sahasrara Chakra is the brain's chakra. And magic is connected to mental power. And mental power is something that the brain constructs.
In other words, the Sahasrara Chakra is also the source that leads to infinite magic power.
I punch my left hand with a vast amount of magic power.
A huge amount of crystal swords flew out of my left hand. They piled up like mountains and appeared behind me.
The knight just opened his mouth in astonishment, and Hearty was excited, saying, "Ohhh! What is that! What's going on!"
I shrugged slightly and raised my hand towards the battlefield.
All the crystal swords are floating in the air. Countless crystal swords, a vast amount, are lined up parallel to one another over my head, like bottles in a wine cellar.
I can see the battlefield starting to get restless. I carefully observe each and every one of them with the Ajna Chakra and think, "Oh, I see."
"The Fist of the Dragon Army has a dragon emblem on their armor, how nice."
Well, let's get to it. I'll determine the coordinates for each crystal sword.
And then, I suddenly thought:
"So that's it. Is this my first murder?"
I lowered my hand.
The crystal sword descended onto the battlefield. Many soldiers tried to defend against it with their shields, but it's too easy. The crystal sword is sharp, and with the added weight of gravity magic, it's unstoppable. Even if it's a steel shield, the crystal sword will pierce through it and the soldier.
The battlefield turned into a scene of chaos. The enemy soldiers, one by one, became the crystal sword's prey. There was no escape. The crystal sword mercilessly pierced through everything.
But I knew that there were people who wouldn't die just because they were pierced by the sword. They would sacrifice their arms to survive and laugh at the enemy soldiers who were watching.
In that sense, the crystal sword was good, I thought.
"Explode, crystal sword!"
The soldiers who were still alive, despite being pierced, were blown up by the crystal sword inside their bodies.
Blood. Blood. Blood. The explosion of the crystal sword dyed the battlefield red. My mercenary comrades were frightened and ran back. It was a good thing.
I looked around with my Ajna Chakra to see if the crystal sword was stuck in my comrades or if the enemy soldiers were all dead from the crystal sword.
And then, I found one exception.
It was a young man with a lazy expression, looking at me with a beard-like face. In his hand was a huge greatsword that didn't match his face.
Around him, there were several fragments of the broken crystal sword. He must have shattered the descending crystal sword and neutralized it.
"Wow, Wade-dono! What a ridiculous thing! I didn't expect someone like you to be so pure-hearted, and yet... you're making me kill people like this!"
Hearty, who was excited and slightly nervous, talked to me. I turned around without looking back and replied:
"I've never killed anyone."
"What? Then, is this your first time? You're not showing much reaction."
"I've never thought about killing anyone, so I've never killed. I've been angry before, but I've never felt the urge to kill. And then..."
I look at the blood-soaked ground below the cliff.
"I tried it once, but it didn't leave a good taste in my mouth. Being accustomed to fighting, I don't get shaken, but... it's just boring."
With a nonchalant expression, I sigh while subtly shaking my head.
"If it's dragon hunting, killing is fine. But killing weak ordinary humans, it's not enjoyable at all. It's just gruesome and meaningless. It's foolish. I won't do it anymore."
"Uh, Wade-dono?"
"Yes? Is something wrong?"
"N-No..."
As I mutter to myself with a frustrated tone, Hearty seems a bit scared. Well, I guess it's understandable. It must be unsettling to have someone as strong as me being irritated by his side.
Deciding in my heart that it's not enjoyable for various reasons, I take a step forward.
"Wait! Where are you going?"
Hearty asks me, so I point to a lethargic, bearded man. I grin.
"It's decided. I'll cleanse the disgusting feeling of massacre by engaging in thrilling battles on the brink of death."
"That guy is――'Wrath,' huh? Why is he in this advance party... Well, never mind. If you say you can do it, then I'll leave it to you. He's too much for our knight order to handle."
"Yes. Leave it to me."
I take a deep breath. Even from here, I can smell the scent of blood. Traces of slaughter. And I realize it.
"After all, battles are only worth it against the strong."
Facing 'Wrath,' I leap high into the air using gravity magic.
