Volume 5 Chapter 40 It's A Clever Plan, But...
──Just before stepping into the territory of the Kahlua Family.
At this point, we roughly have two options. We can either set up camp in the Jingin Family's territory and wait for Kahlua, or we can make a bold move into Kahlua's territory.
According to reconnaissance information from the mercenary group, the Kahlua Family still has a considerable number of troops. It seems that only about 60 percent of their forces were involved in yesterday's conflict. Aina and Nikyou are considering various factors such as balancing the number of people that can be mobilized at once in the city. This remaining 40 percent, having not participated in the conflict, is mostly unharmed.
On the other hand, the Jingin Family has most of its members injured to varying degrees, with some unable to move due to serious injuries, resulting in their overall combat strength being around 60 percent. However, with Reed's mercenary group present, they are almost evenly matched in terms of strength.
However, this is a simple way of looking at it. Depending on Kahlua's actions, the situation could easily be overturned.
"Unfortunately, it's currently difficult to add the mercenary group to our hand."
No one disagreed with Aina's opinion.
If, hypothetically, monsters were to appear during a conflict like last night, and not just in the midst of the conflict but also extending into residential areas, the city would undoubtedly fall into chaos. This would be a situation that the Jingin Family could not overlook.
"If the guards is wishy-washy, it's Jingin's job to protect the city. We have to allocate people for evacuating residents and coordinating."
"That pig bastard, once he senses trouble, he'll definitely betray them. When he fled the country before, he used a similar tactic."
Reed seems to be grimacing like he knows what actions Narinki will take in the neighboring country.
Taking advantage of the chaos in the city, Kahlua launches a sudden offensive. If that happens, unfortunately, the Jingin Family will collapse. Whether they go on the offensive or strengthen their defense, the mercenary group needs to spread out throughout the city to prepare for any eventuality. Therefore, it was difficult to include them as part of the forces.
"So, the current situation favors Narinki's pig. Hey, what should we do, bro?"
"Even I'm racking my brain desperately trying to come up with a plan."
Even while listening to Aina and Reed's conversation, I'm thinking for myself.
It's a very sad story, but in this situation, I'm probably the most useless one here.
If it were a monster or a villain with a bounty on their head, it would be a different story, but most of the opponents are amateurs. If the mercenaries get serious and end up causing unnecessary casualties, we might end up being punished instead. Even the guards who are playing it safe will eagerly come out on business trips. Even if we were to win the conflict, it would be counterproductive once we're caught.
In the past, I didn't really need to think about holding back. Whether the opponent was human or a monster, I could just go all out. However, now I've grown significantly compared to my old self. Especially in terms of physical strength, it's quite noticeable.
When going about daily life, I may get used to controlling myself, but there are times when I accidentally misjudge my strength. It's really important to be careful when getting caught up in unexpected situations. If I put too much force without thinking, things can get serious.
'If this were just a fight with an ordinary person, you wouldn't lose, but this time there's someone dangerous lurking in the background. While you're preoccupied with these small fries, if "those guys" catch you off guard, it won't end well.'
Gram expresses my concerns. Even though no one else can hear it, the reality hits me again. It's such an important point that Gram felt the need to point it out.
As I'm feeling restless, the door of the room opens.
"Sorry. I might have overslept a bit."
Kyunei, stifling a yawn, enters. It seems like she woke up from a nap and came over here.
"Hey, doc-sis. Are you okay to get up already? Since you really helped me out, it's fine for you to keep resting."
"I'm fine. I also did some 'replenishing' before going to bed."
She winks at me. While I'm a bit captivated by her cute gesture, I refrain from teasing Aina, who looks a bit annoyed. I quickly understood what Kyunei meant by 'replenishing.' However, it's thanks to Kyunei's charisma that we can maintain a good relationship without any awkwardness.
'Make sure to follow up properly later.'
I silently agree with Gram's exasperated words, and Kyunei looks around at us.
"You seem quite heated in your discussion. Is the situation not very favorable?"
"The current situation is not ideal."
"Whether attacking or defending, it would be nice if we had some advantage on our side."
Aina rested her chin on her hand lost in thought, while Reed sent a challenging look. It was probably because I was having trouble dealing with the delinquents. It was true, and since I couldn't come up with a quick solution, I couldn't retort.
"Yukina-kun, are you also thinking about something?"
"Well, it's more about me personally──"
Even if I pondered alone (with Gram), I couldn't find an answer. I thought that talking to someone might bring new perspectives, so I told Kyunei about the problem we were facing at the moment.
After conveying everything, Kyunei crossed her arms and pondered.
"So, the main issue is that you can't fight wholeheartedly. Because you hold back your strength, your focus is divided, and you can't concentrate on the fight, right?"
I nodded in agreement with Kyunei's interpretation, and she raised her finger confidently with a satisfied expression.
"If that's the case, I think I can help. Actually, there's something I've been wanting to try for a while. It might be a bit of a sudden challenge, but I should be fine for just today."
What came out of her mouth was an unexpected 'idea', but it was definitely what I was looking for. Surely, it's a brilliant idea that only Kyunei could come up with.
It's safe to say that my concerns about myself have been resolved.
Now, it's time for──
"It seems like we have all the ingredients we need."
"We're just one step away from the pig's head, right?"
Upon hearing this, Aina and Reed nodded at each other. It seems like they have figured out the path to victory between the two of them.
"Alright, the plan is set. Now, it's finally my turn to make a move. It looks like it's going to be a flashy fight."
Nikyou flashed a menacing smile, clapped his hands and fists together.
