Volume 5 Chapter 1 I'm Going On A Trip, But...
When the situation in the country finally began to settle down,
The time has finally come.
Yes――It's Brave's departure.
Rumors have it that not only in this country but also in other countries, demons are starting to stir. Regardless of its truth, there is no doubt that the time for the Demon King's revival is approaching rapidly.
First, they will go to the neighboring country and then travel around various places while gathering information about demons. Visiting different countries to broaden their knowledge and, if possible, meeting with the rulers of the nations to promote unity in times of crisis.
The Demon King, with its subordinates and the army it leads, has a scale that surpasses what a single country can handle. It would require the combined forces of many countries to counter it.
In the past, when the Demon King attacked, the Brave formed ties between nations and stood shoulder to shoulder in order to resist.
As the Brave prepared to depart, the royal capital was bustling with people from all over the country. There were stalls and street performers showcasing their goods and talents for the visitors.
"It feels a bit insensitive to have such a lively send-off for the Brave who is about to embark on a challenging journey."
I mutter as the carriage sways. The clear blue sky outside the carriage doesn't give any hint of the demons or the Demon King plotting anything underneath it.
"...If we say that, I feel like we can't say much about other people, right?"
Kyunei is sitting in the seat next to me, looking amazed. But I shouldn't say foolish things.
"We didn't bail out on Brave for no reason. We took a break because we wanted to."
"I see. Not being swayed by the surrounding noise and acting with one's own will. Truly, Yukina-sama is remarkable."
"Hahaha..."
Mikage, who seems to be overly analytical and engrossed in the situation, is sitting opposite me. Aina is sitting next to her, hesitating on whether to interrupt or not, and eventually smiling politely.
As you may have noticed, we are currently traveling in a carriage. And not just any old carriage, but a fancy one with comfortable seats that don't tire you out easily.
――This is a few days after we defeated the band of bandits.
Aside from being extremely tired at the very end, it was a flawless result. There were no casualties on our side, and all the captives were rescued. It was an ideal accomplishment of a mission.
A few days after returning to the royal capital and once I was fully rested, I thought I would go to the guild as usual to look for new jobs. But then I realized something.
I've been working too hard lately.
Right now, my goal is to become a 2nd-rank mercenary and be a man worthy of my lovers. But that doesn't mean I should neglect them.
I've taken days off to spend time with Kyunei and the others, enjoying our days together, but I've still been pretty busy lately. I started to worry that I might be causing them stress.
They are probably happy just being with me, and I'm confident about that.
However, I want to express my gratitude to them for sticking with me. I want to appreciate their devotion.
'I think one of my partner's best qualities is his thoughtfulness.'
Gram gave me his recommendation, so I decided to completely forget about work and go on a sightseeing trip.
Fortunately, in the recent request, due to a lack of investigation by the guild, we ended up facing a more dangerous bandits' gang than initially expected. As a result, a danger allowance was added to the original payment. With my savings combined, I had more than enough funds to take my loved ones on a trip.
So, we headed to a tourist destination in the borderlands of the kingdom.
"But it feels somewhat fresh. I thought I was used to traveling by carriage, but I've never been just a passenger before."
Usually, traveling by carriage would be a time for pre-mission preparations, coordinating information, and discussing plans beforehand. There had been almost no purely recreational travel in the past.
"Oh well, there is a first time for everything..."
Thinking back, it was when I first visited the royal capital with Relix. It seemed like a long time ago when I rode in the carriage prepared by the Church heading towards the royal capital.
Since then, many things have happened.
Because of those events, I was able to meet amazing women like Kyunei, Mikage, and Aina, so it wasn't all bad.
'Hey, don't forget about me.'
Gram, who is now buried in the back of the passenger seats, seemed to be appealing to his existence as he communicated through Telepathy (channel). Indeed, the reason I am here now is because I met Gram. If it weren't for that, I would have surely been part of the rowdy crowd in the royal capital by now.
It was an undeniable fact that meeting Gram was the biggest turning point in my life.
