Volume 4 Chapter 39 Side Brave Ix
Following the request from the country, we set out to investigate a cave where we thought there might be important clues about the demon attack incident.
We entered the cave with full preparation, as we didn't know its size or the dangerous creatures that might live there.
As expected, the monsters that attacked us along the way were different from the ones that appeared near the royal capital.
However, I was able to fight off even the monsters I was fighting for the first time without any problems. My experience fighting various monsters in the areas around the royal capital came in handy. I was able to swing my swords calmly without being shaken, even against enemies I had never seen before.
And so, we began exploring the cave on the third day.
--There was a very strong enemy in front of us.
It was a huge armor with four arms. There was a blue fire coming from the gaps in the armor. The arms held swords made of flames that came from the armor itself. The heat from the swords could be felt even from a distance. Just a light swing would easily burn a human body.
I fought a similar monster before, a "Living Armor" in the Brave's Temple where the Holy Sword (Leiva) was kept.
However, the one in front of me was much stronger and had an evil aura.
"Blaze!"
Mayuri chanted while pointing her staff, and a giant fireball was released and hit the four arms, causing a huge explosion.
Using magic with such great power in a small space is normally forbidden. The shockwaves could collapse the ceiling and bury us alive.
But in the space we are in now, the monster with four arms almost eight meters tall swinging weapons with pride, it still had plenty of room to spare. Thanks to this, Mayuri can use high-power magic without hesitation.
However, even if it can be used, whether it will be effective is another issue.
After the flames and dust from the explosion vanish, there is a huge suit of armor with little visible damage other than some scorch marks.
--BOOOMMM!
Mayuri's explosive magic isn't just for attacking. It was a diversion for Gabert to approach amidst the rising smoke. His greatsword strikes the knee area of the armor.
It was a powerful blow, but Gabert's expression does not improve. He grits his teeth and leaps away, while one of the four arms of the giant armor swings down, melting the ground.
Having retreated, Gabert glares at the spot where the greatsword struck and shouts.
"Even after hitting it this much, it won't even flinch! How tough is this thing!"
Gabert, a seasoned 1st rank mercenary, was feeling the pressure.
"Shion! Can't you enhance my power any further?! This is just scraping by!"
"Even now, I'm adjusting it right at the limit of what you can endure. If I increase the enhancement coefficient any further, your bones will snap just by swinging the sword."
Gabert snapped at Shion, but all he got back was a cold response. However, there was a sense of urgency in Shion's expression, and his breathing was heavy.
Since the start of the battle with this giant armor, Shion has been continuously casting support magic on both me and Gabert. The lack of emphasis in his speech was because even moving his mouth has become difficult.
Mayuri also had a strained expression after casting magic. Like Shion, she had been using high-powered magic since the battle began, and she too was exhausted.
Even Gabert, who still had the strength to shout, wasn't in great shape.
Swiftly but skillfully, he dodged its four arms and waved his greatsword over and over again. Even though he managed to evade, the heat was slowly wearing down Gabert. Underneath his armor, his skin was probably turning red from the heat.
However, as he said, things weren't looking good.
Their opponent was moving in mysterious armor, while they were just humans with limited stamina. If the fight dragged on, it was clear who would be at a disadvantage.
With signs of the front already crumbling, they needed a move to turn the tide.
"Enchantment - White Flame Infusion!"
"Relix! Hey, you idiot, don't be reckless!"
Even as I listened to Gabert's scolding, I charged at the giant armor with the Holy Sword wrapped in white flames.
I strengthened the white flames to meet the giant armor's swinging sword.
Like Gabert, I avoided a direct hit from the bluish flame sword, but the heat waves from its close range burned my body. But I gritted my teeth and endured it.
I slashed away all three of the flame swords held by the three arms that swung in succession with my white flames. I somehow managed to meet the fourth one, despite its dangerous timing.
The white flames' attack easily cut through even the steel exterior. No matter how much heat the armor's flame swords held, I could cut them off with this Holy Sword.
However, even though I could cut them off, I couldn't make them disappear.
As soon as I managed to cut off the fourth flame sword, the flame sword held by the first arm attacked me next.
The sword made from flames overflowing from inside the giant armor immediately regains its original shape due to the flames bursting out from within, no matter how much it is cut into pieces.
In other words, the attacks of the giant armor won't stop unless the main armor itself is struck.
Despite trying many times to cut through the armor's armor with Enchantment - White Flame Infusion, the attackers never reach their target. They are crushed by the multiple layers of overlapping fiery swords before they can make their move.
