Chapter 44 Turning Zombies Back into Humans

Chapter 44 Turning Zombies Back Into Humans

I, Leaf Chemist, along with Mercury-san, started exploring a dungeon that suddenly appeared in Abyss Wood.

"Ugh... my head hurts so much..."

Following behind me is Comet Witch Mercury-san, an amazing witch apprentice and my buddy.

She kept walking behind me, enduring her headache.

"It can't be helped, Mercury-jou. After what happened..."

 Following behind Mercury-san is Tai-chan, a Behemoth.

Due to the narrow passage, she looks like a human.

She has dark blue long hair and wears a dress fit for a night party. She's a nice-bodied sister with dog ears.

 "W-what happened to me...?"

"I can't possibly say it out loud..."

Mercury-san drank a little bit of the alcohol-infused potion I made, and she got very drunk in no time.

 Crying, annoying, and very irritating.

And then she was also a kissing demon, and she kissed me all over my body.

"What, what's going on? I'm curious..."

"If I were to speak the truth, Mercury-jou would die of shame."

"So much!? Hey, what happened to me!?"

 ...I can't say. Tai-chan won't say either.

"Eh, eh, oh no, did I...do something while I was unconscious?"

"N-no...just a little. After taking some medicine, just a little, yes..."

 "T-that, that means...w-what?"

 "...That."

As I struggle to speak, Tai-chan steps in to help.

"Anyway, we're working right now, right? How about we play around after we leave the dungeon?"

"Yes! That's right! Come on, Mercury-san! Let's go!"

 Mercury-san reluctantly followed along.

 Nice one, Tai-chan.

"By the way, what kind of monsters appear in tomb-type dungeons?"

"Well, mainly undead creatures like wraiths and zombies."

Undead monsters are souls of humans or other beings that have turned into monsters with grudges.

Zombie refers to corpses that have turned into monsters, becoming animated corpses.

"So, both wraiths and zombies were originally humans, right?"

"Well, yeah. But once they're dead and haven't passed on, they become monsters that attack people. It's pitiful."

Mercury-san muttered with a dark expression.

Indeed, it's unfortunate. To die, yet not be able to rest in peace, and to continue wandering forever in the darkness...

"Isn't there some magic that can help with that, Mercury-jou?"

"It's impossible, absolutely. There is a magic to revive the dead, but it requires a huge amount of magic power and can only be done shortly after death."

"Hmm... so magic isn't all-powerful after all."

Mercury-san's master, Granny Merlin, wasn't good at healing magic.

But maybe Granny Sei Fart in the village could do it.

She was almost as skilled in healing as Master Asclepius.

But she's old now, and it would be difficult for her to come here.

 Master... he's already dead.

"If it's a resurrection potion... but it's useless unless it's used right after death."

 "A resurrection potion? What's that, Mercury-jou?"

"It's a potion to revive the dead. I've used it before. But it can only be used on someone who just died."

That's right. That's... what it was. But...

I had a feeling about something.

"Okay, let's stop talking now. Here come a horde of zombies."

Coming from the front, humans are slowly approaching us.

 Zombie. Undead monster.

"Be careful, Leaf-kun. Physical attacks don't work on zombies. Their weaknesses are fire and light."

Mercury-san takes out a staff and points it towards the zombies.

She starts chanting a spell, so I grab her hand.

 "What's wrong, Leaf-kun?"

"If they're zombies, I might be able to do something."

"No, it's impossible! Even if Leaf-kun has invincible power, physical attacks won't work on zombies. They just regenerate and start moving again, even if you crush them."

The zombies groan as they approach.

It used to sound like just a monster's cry.

But now... it sounds like they're looking for someone to help.

I take out the Divine Healer Staff from my bag.

Divine Healer Staff. This is an amazing weapon given to me by Granny Merlin that allows me to administer the medicine I create directly into my body.

 "[Prescription: Paralyze]"

First, stop the movement of the zombies with paralysis.

"What are you going to do next? Attack?"

 "No, please watch, Mercury-san."

I take off my bag and open the lid.

A green light comes out gently from inside.

In the dark tomb, it looks like a soul.

But its true identity is a green spirit. It's a small neighbor who gives me power.

 "You brought the spirits here?"

"I wouldn't say I brought them, they just tend to follow me around."

"You're still so loved by the spirits...even though you're not a magician."

 I communicate with the spirits.

"I'm going to make a medicine called Resurrection Potion. I want you to enhance its effects with your powers."

"! Oh, I see... If you amplify the effect of the medicine that only works right after death with spirits...!"

 Of course, that's not all.

I remember when I made the protective incense that has a long-lasting effect.

I was taught how to make this medicine by the master as well.

If I make it exactly as instructed, I won't be able to save this zombie.

So... I have to go beyond. Beyond my master.

"Everyone, please lend me your power!"

The number of green spirits increases.

Swooshh... The spirits gather at the tip of the Divine Healer Staff.

I create the medicine to bring the dead back to life.

 "[Prescription]!"

I administer the new medicine, infused with a boost from the spirits, to the zombie...

 And then...

"What!? What's happening!? The body is returning to life in the blink of an eye!?"

The rotten flesh turns into fresh skin.

Energy returns to the cloudy white eyes...

 There, a naked girl appears.

 "Wait, where am I?"

She still seemed so young. I took out a cloak from my bag and draped it over her body.

"I've been wandering in the white place for so long... it hurt and was painful, and no one helped me..."

"It's okay now! You've already come back to life! You don't need to suffer anymore!"

Tears welled up in the girl's eyes.

 "U-uuuuu! Sob... Thank you, brother!"

I hugged the revived girl tightly. I was relieved I could help.

 "Thank you, spirits!"

Shinggg...! Suddenly, a bright light shone even brighter.

Mercury-san looked at me with a shocked expression.

"Fully resurrecting the dead... this isn't something just anyone can do... it's amazing, isn't it?"

 "Yeah, my Lord is amazing."

I released the girl from my embrace and said to Mercury-san,

"Let's go back to Eileen-san's place."

 "Okay, but why?"

"I want to help as many people inside as possible. I want the people I revive to be protected in the village. I want to ask Eileen and others for help with that."

If I have the power to help and there are people asking for help, I want to use it.

When Mercury-san nodded and said, "Got it," she waved her staff.

A light swallow appeared and flew outside of the tomb.

 "What was that?"

"It's a magic called 'Letter Shot'. It delivers letters to faraway people... well, it's like a message sent through an arrow. I asked Eileen for support."

 Mercury is really talented.

 Alright...

I'll help a lot of people...! Wait for me, everyone!
