Volume 3 Chapter 8 Taking Care
Moruru was drinking milk as tall as her height.
"Wow... she drank more than her body size."
Toxy said with a resigned look. Clay and Sandra, who were in charge of carrying the milk, also looked exhausted.
"Phew! Refill!"
Moruru energetically finished her milk and requested a refill. Clay quietly handed her a new milk tank, and she smiled as she opened the lid.
"Slurp, slurp, slurp"
Moruru dove into the tank and drank vigorously. What an appetite she had. Our Engel coefficient is steadily rising.
"...I see. Maybe what Alex-san said was not for a day's worth but for a meal's worth."
Clay exhaled deeply and muttered. I then asked Clay.
"Are we running out of supplies already?"
"Yeah, it's disappearing. It's disappearing, and because the cost of food is outrageous, it will be difficult to shop freely without worrying about the price of things like we used to."
"...Seriously?"
"Well, we have some capital, so there's some room to maneuver. I've already made some investments in advance, so we can offset it to some extent... But when it comes to food expenses, please keep in mind that it's about ten times the total amount we all put together."
"...Moruru, does she eat that much?"
"Yeah, that's right. After all, it's three times more than the considerable amount I had anticipated. At this rate, our savings will continue to decrease."
"I see... that's true. I'll seriously consider it. It's for the sake of our cute child. A little bit of hardship is worth it."
"It's funny how you sound like a father, but let's not overdo it, Wade-kun. But Moruru-chan is cute, and I have no intention of letting her go now. I'll try to manage the finances a bit more."
"Thanks, Clay"
"I'm supposed to be Wade's right-hand man. I have my own battles to fight."
Saying that, Clay started getting ready. He seems to be moving quickly. I'm starting to feel like I can't keep up with Clay anymore.
As we were having that exchange, it seemed like Moruru had finally eaten her fill and patted her belly, saying, "Burp~."
I approached and spoke to her.
"Moruru, are you full?"
"Paa-pa! Yes! Full tummy!"
"Wade-kun, Moruru-chan is amazing... she's learning words at an incredible speed."
"She also drank at an incredible speed though~. I have to go shopping again. Sandra, come with me."
"Again? I felt like taking a leisurely walk today, Toxy."
"Yes, again. Still, this is quite a hassle, isn't it... Maybe we should get a regular contract. It seems doable with the amount we have."
"Thunder Speed."
"Hey! Sandra, don't run away!"
Toxy reaches out to Sandra, who has escaped in the blink of an eye. However, unable to catch up, she collapsed right there.
In addition, Ice showed concern and spoke up.
"...Toxy-chan, let's go together today, okay?"
"Ah, thank you, Ice-chan. Sandra, just you wait until we meet again!"
After such an exchange, the two quickly prepared themselves.
"Well then, Wade-kun. I'll go shopping with Toxy-chan... okay?"
"Take care of Moruru for me, Wade! She's the most attached, so make sure to play with her! And don't do anything dangerous! Also..."
"Toxy-chan, we might be pushing it, should we go soon?"
"Yeah, I'm starting to feel that way too."
"See you later, Wade-kun. Take care."
With those words, the two left together, leaving me and Moruru behind.
The two of us looked at each other.
"It suddenly feels lonely."
"Um, I'm fine because I have my favorite snack!"
"Wow, really... That's a lot of vocabulary for someone on their first day of life..."
Moruru stood up and settled on my lap. Then she looked up at me with a proud expression. This creature is too cute. And her hair is so fluffy. Wow, amazing.
"Paapa."
"Hmm? What's up, Moruru?"
"Moruru wants to go outside!"
"Oh... I see."
Although I've been told to be careful, I haven't been told not to leave the house. In other words, as long as there's no problem, it should be fine.
I look down at Moruru and say,
"Can you listen to me?"
"Yes! Moruru is good!"
"If Papa says stop, will you stop?"
"I'll stop!"
"If I say be quiet, will you be quiet?"
"I will! I'll be quiet!"
Moruru closed her mouth tightly, straightened her posture, trembled a bit, then exhaled with a "phew."
I somehow sensed it and explained quietly.
"Being quiet doesn't mean you have to stop breathing. Basically, just don't be noisy."
"I see..."
I chuckled at Moruru, who nodded seriously with a cute expression. I moved her off my lap, stood up, and said,
"Shall we go for a walk then? Maybe I can buy you some clothes along the way."
"Let's go! A walk? ...I'll understand if I try!"
"Moruru, with your brute strength, your learning speed is incredible."
Isn't a Metamorph Dragon much more talented than humans just by being normal?
And so, Moruru and I held hands and strolled around, pretending to be a couple.
Since we had to buy clothes, I managed to make do by having Moruru wear my slightly smaller clothes.
For now, our disguise seemed to work, and we walked down the main street without attracting much attention.
"Wow... so many people!"
"Yeah, there are a lot of people."
"Yep! ...? ...Papa?"
"Hmm? What's up, Moruru?"
Glancing around nervously, Moruru asked me,
"Just a collar, Moruru."
"Yeah, that's right..."
Thinking about how to convey the truth to Moruru, who seemed to notice this on the first day, she continued,
"...Moruru, super stylish?"
"I want to learn from that positive thinking."
Actually, despite the circumstances, it really suited her well. The rugged collar created a cute contrast with Moruru's fluffy cuteness, making her look incredibly lovely.
"Oh, super stylish indeed. It suits you and looks cute, Moruru."
"Ehehe. Moruru is cute!"
"Yeah, yeah."
I patted Moruru's fluffy head and held her hand as we walked down the main street.
"Um, the tailor shop is, uh..."
We found a slightly fancy and expensive-looking clothing store, but well, my budget is my budget. I'll figure something out.
...Even though I might get scolded for wasting money, it's better to buy good quality clothes, yeah. In the end, it can be cheaper. Yeah, that's right.
It's not like I find it troublesome to look for clothes at other stores or anything like that. Yeah.
So, we stepped through the door of that seemingly high-end tailor shop. Everything about the place was dazzling and felt rather exclusive---
As I pondered about that, a high-pitched voice echoed.
"What are you thinking!? Do you think such clothes would suit me!? Are you insulting me!?"
"I-I'm terribly sorry! I'm terribly sorry, Noble-sama!"
From the source of the voice, a typical noble lady was berating what seemed to be the owner of the clothing store.
Oh, the smell of trouble.
