Volume 3 Chapter 5 Do You Want To Warm The Egg?
So, we warmed up the eggs while everyone passed them around.
"Ice... Shouldn't we switch soon? Aren't you tired?"
"I'm still okay, really."
"...I see. If you start feeling tired, let me know right away, especially me."
"It's like a couple fighting over a child."
Clay commented on the interaction between me and Ice.
It was getting late at night. Me, Ice, and Clay were spending time slowly in the living room while warming the eggs.
Toxy and Sandra must have found shopping quite tiring as they went to bed early. So, we were still spending the warm autumn night on the carpet.
"C-Clay-kun...! Don't tease us about being a couple...! Hey, Wade-kun...?"
"Eggs..."
"Well, Wade-kun is only focused on the eggs."
Clay said something to me, and I raised my face, saying, "Huh? Did you say something?" Then, for some reason, I noticed that Ice was giving me a cold stare.
"Huh? Ice, did I do something weird?"
"...You can warm up the eggs."
"Yay!"
"It's surprising to see Wade-kun being so nurturing. It must be good news for Ice-san."
"...I'm a little dissatisfied that he doesn't care about me because he only cares about the egg."
I carefully accepted the egg handed to me by Ice and warmed it while stroking it.
"However, it was unexpected. I thought you were the type who didn't care much about things other than battles, Wade-kun."
"Huh? No, that's not true. I basically like things that excite me. It's just that I particularly enjoy battles."
"So, what about now...?"
When asked by Ice, I answered with a beaming smile.
"There's nothing but love."
"..."
Then, Ice, looking a bit dissatisfied, came up to me and wrapped the egg.
Ice's well-kept face is right in front of me. It makes me a bit nervous.
"I-Ice?"
"I want to warm up with you too. That's okay, right?"
Looking up at me with a sharp gaze, Ice suddenly smiled. I blinked my eyes and could only answer, "Y-yeah, that's right."
"...He's a tough nut to crack, Ice-san. Anyway, I'm going to hit the hay too. Goodnight, you two."
"Y-yeah! Goodnight, Clay."
"Goodnight, Clay-kun. Thanks for understanding the situation."
"No problem. You two can do whatever you want now."
After their exchange, I hesitated. No, this won't work. I've had too little experience in this life and the past. It's really not going to work.
And then, it was just me and Ice in the living room, hugging the egg from both sides. The only dim light illuminating the living room swayed in the wind.
"...It's a bit embarrassing when facing each other, isn't it?"
"Uh, yeah..."
It was such a close distance that we could even feel each other's breath. There, Ice was sitting. Even though I could have escaped if I wanted to, for some reason, I felt like I couldn't run away.
Then, Ice started talking.
"...Wade-kun, have you taken a bath...?"
"Uh, not yet."
As I answered, Ice's gaze fell on the egg.
"...It would be warm if we put the egg in together, right?"
"Yeah, I think so."
"...Right."
Blushing, Ice looked up at me with a shy expression.
"...Shall we take a bath together...?"
"Uh..."
It felt like a sudden impact as if I had been hit on the head.
"Before, we already took a bath. And I also want to take care of the egg, Wade-kun."
"..."
"I've already taken a bath once, so it's not embarrassing, right? ...Right, Wade-kun?"
...Ice's smile was not like the usual small flower-like smile I always see. There was a sharpness in her eyes as if she was looking at prey, but her face was bright red, as if she was not in her right mind.
I accidentally let slip.
"Yeah, that's right. I've already taken a bath once with you together."
My mouth, speaking frivolously, couldn't believe it.
Then Ice took a deep breath and said, "...I'm happy." Then she stood up, lifted the eggs, and said to me.
"Well, I'll go in first to warm them up. It's embarrassing to be seen undressing. ...I'd be happy if you came later."
"...Got it."
Chuckling softly, Ice left the living room. I stood alone in the center of the living room, silent for a moment, then muttered.
"Huh."
I didn't mutter. I'm just feeling confused.
"Uh, uh, uh."
No, calm down, calm down, me. Take a deep breath. Yes, deep breath.
"Sigh... exhale..."
I reminded myself that I was more nervous than during the Wyvern battle.
"Just warming up the egg. Just warming up the egg..."
I gradually started to calm down. Yes, I'm just going to warm up egg with Ice in the bath.
Even if something surprising happens along the way, warming up the egg is the top priority. After all, if you leave the egg in the wrong place, they might crack. That's not acceptable.
So, it's okay. It's okay. I'm telling myself it's okay!
"...Let's do my best."
Believing in my unwavering determination, I stood up, thinking it was about time.
