Volume 3 Chapter 16 The Second Assassin
The attack of the second assassin happened late at night the next day.
"..."
I gently pulled Moruru, who was sleeping with my arm as a pillow, into a princess carry as I stood up.
Since Moruru is a dragon, she doesn't even stir when handled a bit roughly. It's convenient at times like this.
I step outside the room. There, Ice and Sandra were already in the hallway.
"Did everyone notice?"
"Yeah... we're surrounded, huh."
"There are seven of them. Quite a large group mobilized. All of them are skilled."
"I woke Clay up."
Toxy brings out the sleepy Clay from the room.
"You guys are good at noticing these things..."
"Girls are sensitive to these things. It's actually a bit surprising that Wade woke up so easily."
Teased by Toxy, I laugh and shrug my shoulders.
"I'm a coward, you know. I can't sleep when the enemy is nearby."
"Haha. Well said."
So, with that, all party members except Alex have gathered. Alex is busy today, so he's not here at this house.
I gave clear instructions.
"We'll split into a mobile strike team and a defense team for Moruru inside the house. Sandra, Ice, and I will be in the strike team. Ice, I would also like you to lend me your snowmen."
"Understood."
"Now for the defense team. Clay will be in charge, with Toxy and Ice supporting. Ice, you'll be entrusted with Moruru."
"Understood."
I handed Moruru to Ice. Ice took Moruru, gently petting her with a happy expression.
"As a note, Ice will have a somewhat heavy burden. So, Clay and Toxy, take the lead and protect Ice."
"No need to say it."
"Ice-chan, I'm counting on you! It's not good for Moruru if my poison gets to her."
"Yeah... I'll do my best, Toxy-chan, you can rely on me."
"Alright then ---let's disband!"
Ice handed me three snowmen, and together with Sandra, I leaped out from the balcony on the second floor.
"Whoa!" "Darn, busted!" "Change of plans! Invade quickly and seize the Metamorph Dragon!"
There was a series of shaking sounds, probably also serving as a magic tool to repel people.
At the same time as their actions, Sandra spoke.
"Invade? Not gonna happen. I'll take you all down with my Thunderbolt."
Small sparks of electricity crackled from Sandra's arm into the sky, forming dark clouds. The assassins were thrown off by this sight.
Sandra swung her arm down.
"You're all going to the afterlife."
And the Thunderbolt pierced through the assassins.
Roaring thunder echoed, flashes of light appeared. I covered my eyes and ears as usual to prevent being stunned, then immediately readied my gauntlets after the Thunderbolt ended, landing in the midst of them.
"Hey. If you want to take my daughter, bring ten times the number you have now."
Using a Weight Increase uppercut, I launched the person who was nearby and couldn't move due to being shocked into the air. Another person who was already charred black was left alone, while I aimed at the group trying to escape.
"Don't think you can escape, you kidnappers!"
I shouted. It was one of the negotiation techniques I learned from Alex yesterday. Negotiations can happen in any situation. Even calling out "wait" to someone trying to escape is a form of negotiation.
Therefore, my roar made the movements of the three people awkward with fear.
"Alex, you're worth the money."
I leaped low with Weight Reduce and closed the distance with the enemies in an instant. The two who hesitated to keep their distance and move in were ignored. I would definitely take down these three who were terrified.
"Ice, on the ground."
"Kippi."
I threw a snowball in the direction the three were moving. Ice's magic froze the ground, anchoring the feet of the three to the ground.
Now it's my time to shine. I jump in with momentum, taking down everyone with a Drop Kick.
"Alright, that's three down."
As I attack, the three are restrained on the icy ground. Sandra arrives just in time and swiftly incapacitates them with her abilities.
I give instructions.
"Ice, you go handle those two over there. I'm counting on you."
"Kippi."
The snowman salutes. I turn to Sandra and say, "Let's check if there are any more enemies waiting to follow up," giving new orders before moving out.
Ice acknowledges the instructions with a nod.
"It seems two more are coming... Wade-kun, be cautious of any additional threats."
"It looks like he trust us completely. It's an honor. Let's do our best to meet his expectations."
Clay smirked confidently. He couldn't help but think about the two intruders outside. Their flashy and swift attacks seemed to have taken out the assassins in a big way.
Clay spoke up,
"Let's clarify something. This time, we are under certain constraints. That means this place is our home. To put it simply, we want to avoid as much destruction as possible. Let's keep that in mind as we move forward."
"In that case, I should avoid using anything other than solid poisons. Liquids or gases would mess up the house."
"It wouldn't be good for me to go on a rampage too. So, this time, let's have this house do the heavy lifting."
Ice and Toxy repeated the word "house" that Clay mentioned. Clay nodded in agreement.
"Our goal is not just to successfully repel the intruders, but also to do what the outsiders couldn't. In other words, gather information. That's our objective."
Upon hearing that, Ice nodded. Toxy also said, "I see. Well then, I have a good poison." with sparkling eyes.
At that moment, a sound of the door opening came from the entrance.
"Well, let's go greet them. As one of the owners of the house, let's greet them properly."
The three lunatics laughed.
