Volume 2 Chapter 34 Retreat
I quickly covered my ears and eyes to prevent myself from freezing up. Then I stood up and checked the situation.
As expected, our group members were excellent. Everyone, like me, prevented themselves from freezing up and checked their surroundings.
I gave quick instructions.
"I'll go with Sandra as a decoy! The three of you, run ahead!"
"Got it! We'll raise a signal fire when we no longer hear the Wyvern's breathing! At that time, please run away too!"

After briefly checking on Clay and the others who were running away, I stood next to Sandra and headed towards the Wyvern.
The wyvern, showing signs of scorching from lightning all over its body, continued to soar.

As I took a fighting stance with my fist, Sandra said,
"...Wade, you should have run away too. I can use magic for high-speed movement."
"I'm confident in my speed too. Besides, it's okay to have a little fun, right?"
Adding a bit of truth at the end, I said, making Sandra blush slightly,
"Oh no, oh no, oh no. If I leave you alone, you might recklessly engage in battle and end up dying. You look too cute. I feel like I want to protect you. Rather than protect, I want to challenge reckless battles together and die together."
"Sandra, aren't your preference getting a bit extreme?"
At that moment, we sensed a murderous intent.

Using magic for high-speed movement, we dodged the wyvern's attacks.
The wyvern, using its massive body to launch attacks, had tremendous power. The surrounding trees were broken, and the ground was deeply gouged.
It felt like a small meteor had crashed.

Sandra returned a wry smile. "You should be more honest," she said, pursing her lips.
So, I answered while glaring at the wyvern.
"No, honesty. After all, in my current state of just recovering a bit of magic power from exhaustion, I need to save some magic for escape and face these guys."
Imposing restrictions on myself, facing enemies that couldn't be defeated without them.
There's no way I wouldn't be fired up.
"―――Just this much is already awesome. So, I'll save the rest for the next exciting moment."
I adjust my fist stance. I don't draw the iron lump sword on my back. Dealing with the iron lump sword always requires magic power.
"...Facing a wyvern barehanded?"
Sandra chuckled softly.
"Nice, Wade. That's some crazy excitement."
And then, the wyvern roared.
Despite the deafening roar that felt like it could rupture our eardrums, we didn't take our eyes off its movements.
The wyvern accelerated towards us as if flapping its wings.
"Thunder Speed."
Sandra quickly dodged with magic. But I had a different intention.
"I think the only thing I haven't tried yet is defense."
I lightened my weight to the extreme with [Weight Reduce], floating in the air from the wind pressure of the wyvern's charge. Then, with [Weight Increase], I landed on its back and clung to it.
"You're riding the wyvern!?"
"WOWWW! This guy is FASTTTT!"
While saying that, I kept using my [Weight Increase] skill and stayed close to the Wyvern. Then, I clenched my fist and struck it.
Penetration. My arm broke through its thick scales.
The Wyvern screamed. I understood its defense level. I could go home anytime now.
Thinking that, as I forcefully pulled back my fist, I was caught off guard.
"Ugh...!?"
As soon as I pulled out, a sharp pain shot through my right arm as I thrust it back in. Looking, the gauntlet covering my arm was completely destroyed, and my arm was covered in blood. Plus, some large scales were stuck in it.

I quickly moved away from the Wyvern and used [Weight Reduce] to hide among the leaves of a tree.
Sandra, who was also hiding, quietly approached.
"Are you okay?"

"It's okay. I'll just remove the scales for you."
Every time Sandra deftly plucks the scales from my arm, my blood splatters sporadically. It hurts like hell.
"Well, looks like my right arm is done for... In that case, it seems I won't have any means of attack."

Peeking through the gaps in the leaves, the Wyvern constantly moves its head, trying to ascertain the extent of the wound I inflicted. And every time it hurts, it lets out a "Grroar" and returns to its original posture.

"...Is this your first time fighting a dragon?"

She then continues with,
"One of my dreams is to electrocute those dragons. Wyverns are just the beginning. They're the bottom of the dragon hierarchy."
"If this is the bottom, I wonder what the top is like."
We both chuckle. Then, I noticed smoke rising in the distance.
"That's a signal fire. If that's the case, did they manage to escape?"
"Looks like it. Well then, let's make our escape too."
"Yeah. As much as it's fun, it's quicker to be unable to move due to blood loss with these injuries."
"Don't want to die?"
"No, in a fight where you know you're being played, you can't get fully immersed."
"True. Let's go then."
"Yeah!"
We both cast spells, swiftly leaving the area without the wyverns noticing.
