Volume 2 Chapter 30 The Appearance of a God

Volume 2 Chapter 30 The Appearance Of A God

The next day, I went to the library, planning to look for books about the god "Newton" residing in my magic seal.

 ...but.

"Hey, Show me the noble crest."

 "Huh?"

"I said, the noble crest. Weren't you ordered by your lord to borrow books?"

The library was more luxurious than I had imagined. As I stood at the entrance, the gatekeeper called out to me, leaving me dumbfounded.

"Um, no. I just came here to read..."

"What? Don't say foolish things! The library is a special place only for nobles and those associated with them. Don't think that commoners like you can intrude for personal interests!"

I was shooed away, and I retreated with a sigh. Indeed, in this world's cultural level, there seems to be no such thing as printing methods, and therefore, books are all handwritten luxury items.

It's like, you know, stuff like knowledge about gods that make you interested in the library, you can't learn that at training camp. I totally get it. It would be a big problem if troublemakers started invading the library.

And then, things would get tricky. Just when I figured out a convenient way to power up, I don't know the specific method. Ugh.

 "Should I rely on Clay..."

I pondered. But, going all the way back home doesn't seem like a good idea.

Besides, let's not forget, it's Newton. I mean, I know he's a physicist. If I can figure out how to imitate him, maybe it's not impossible, right?

As I was pondering like that, a petite old lady approached me and said, "Hey there, trying to enter the library?"

"You look like an adventurer for some reason, but why?"

"Huh? Oh, I was thinking of getting to know my god for enhancing my magic."

 "―――――"

The old lady hesitated for a moment, then her reaction came rushing in.

 "Ho"

 "Yes?"

 "Hohohohohoho!"

She came over with sparkling eyes.

"My goodness, you have knowledge beyond your appearance! Are you not just using magic as magic, but understanding it as Transformation Magic and working on your own training? I see, I see, this is good! Well done, what is your name?"

 "Uh, it's Wade..."

"Wade. Well done. So, which god resides in your magic seal?"

 "Newton, it's..."

"Oh! You're a gravity magician. It must have been quite difficult to get this far. In that case, take this."

From the old lady's pocket, she pulled out a piece of paper. Swiftly, she wrote something on it.

Then, she pushed it towards me.

 "What is this?"

"Here's a simple summary of the characteristics of the god of gravity, Newton. If you make them a habit, you'll quickly learn magic. When you reach your limit, it's good to come back around here. I'm always hanging around this area, you know."

Saying that, the smiling old lady walked away. She was like a stormy old lady...

So, with the notes as my spoils, I quickly visited an open space in a small forest on the outskirts of the city.

"The training ground plaza was nice, but having a wide space like this all to myself is good too."

Especially being close to the party house is a big plus. Just go straight after going around the back of the house.

I stretched lightly and took out the notes.

"Let's see, research, politics, faith... What should I do about politics and faith?"

Should I talk about politics or pray? I don't know. Since I don't know, I'll leave it aside until I have the opportunity.

So, I decided to focus on the research. I feel like this suits me quite well.

 "Well then, let's start with..."

I rotate my neck and stretch.

"Since it's a good opportunity, why not test my own limits?"

 Object Weight Reduce.

I make everything in my field of vision - trees, stones, rocks, and all natural objects - as light as possible.

You see, there was something that had been bothering me. That is, the limit of magic. How much magic can I use before I get tired and can't use magic anymore?

I've seen people around me run out of magic power a few times (Clay doesn't use much magic, so he didn't often runs out), so I've always wondered about myself.

Because my magic power never seems to run out.

I was so surprised to see everyone getting tired and running out of magic power that I secretly thought, "Huh? Is that even real?"

So, I'm putting all my strength into it, making everything I see as light as possible.

My limit of lightness is lighter than air, so things like stones easily float.

"Anyway, it's dangerous, so let's quickly cut off the magic around here."

I drop the floating stones from around my waist.

Next, something strange happened with a rock.

It doesn't float like a stone, but it feels like it's shaking somehow. When I get closer and touch it, it vibrates easily, which is interesting.

"Is it stuck in the ground?"

I brush off the dirt around the rock, and it starts to float, so I stop the magic. This is much cooler than just floating stones.

And finally, the one thing that doesn't budge at all is the tree. Like the rock, it seems to be weighed down by the earth and doesn't move.

"Well, then, let's focus on the tree."

I sit on the floating rock and keep using [Weight Reduce] with all my might.

 Continuously. Forever. Forever and ever.

 "..."

It's been a few hours, and I was starting to get bored.

 "I'm reaching my limit..."

Since I had free time, I decided to use [Weight Reduce] on myself and fly through the sky, increasing the number of trees from above, or on the contrary, I tried making myself as heavy as possible to the limit of my strength and started weight training. Even so, it seems like my magic power is still fine.

"Maybe I should try getting heavier. Object Weight Increase."

I made all the trees I had used [Weight Reduce] on as heavy as possible. As a result, many trees began to sink under their weight.

 "This is bad, bad, bad."

I quickly switched back to [Weight Reduce]. That was close. I almost caused a ridiculous disaster.

And then, suddenly, I felt a sensation as if all the strength drained from my body.

 "Huh?"

I slumped to the ground. After blinking a few times, I tried to use magic, but ended up laughing.

"Oh, it's impossible. I see, this is magic exhaustion."

I threw my limbs on the ground with a bit of a fresh feeling. It's not like magic at all. I've completely lost all motivation in my body.

"This might be bad. It's even a hassle just to stand up to go back."

Despite the quite serious situation, I can't help but laugh lightly with a carefree attitude. It really feels like a serious condition.

 No sense of urgency.

 Just no motivation at all.

"Wow... so this is how it's going to be... interesting..."

I muttered that, and suddenly felt something strange in my right hand.

Glancing at the magic seal, even though I lack motivation, I muster up the effort to roll up my sleeves.

And there, I see the magic seal that has grown and extended like a tattoo.

 "Wow, I did it!"

Despite feeling like I've made a fool of myself endlessly, mimicking the gods really does have an effect, and I'm genuinely happy about it.

And so, now, how do I seriously get back from here? As I absentmindedly pondered the short walk ahead, someone was looking down at me.

"Wow, fate has led me to find my fated person here."

Looking up, there stood a girl with blonde hair tied in side-tails, whom I had faced as an enemy before.

It was Sandra. Sandra of the Thunderclap. Though we are not enemies now, she is a cautious adventurer with a silver bow and a torch adventurer's badge.

...Um, excuse me, but when you stand directly above me in a skirt, it's quite revealing, you know.

 "Um, Sandra, right?"

 "Correct."

"Could you move a bit? It's, um, quite revealing from this angle."

"Eek, you saw something embarrassing. You'll have to take responsibility for this. Let's go get married right away."

Sandra said this with a deadpan expression and a flat tone of voice.

And just like that, as if she was a true adventurer, she easily lifted me up.

 I shouted,

 "Help meeeeeee, I'm being kidnappeddddddd!"

It was a weak and feeble voice.
