Volume 2 Chapter 27 Amazing New Home
"Is this it?"
Toxy asked in amazement as she looked at the mansion.
"Yeah, this is it. After checking it out with Clay, we both agreed it's worth buying."
"Wow, this is incredible...! I've never seen such a luxurious house before!"
Ice exclaimed, her eyes sparkling as she gazed at the mansion.
That's right, the place we had just purchased was truly a mansion.
It was located slightly outside the residential area, in a quiet and peaceful location. It was a great spot for adventurers as it was not far from the main street yet close to the entrance of the forest and dungeon, perfect for those seeking adventure.
There stood a large, pure white two-story mansion. That was to be our new home.
"Wow... it's so long sideways."
Toxy remarked as she walked from one end of the house to the other. It was quite a length, especially when including the armory.
"The high walls are nice too. It gives a sense of security in case anything happens."
"What do you mean by 'anything', Clay?"
"Well, that's like an attack, right? We remember being attacked like that, right?"
"...Well, yeah."
Clay, who was saying dangerous things, seemed generally in a good mood.
Ice ran up to me, breathing heavily, and started talking excitedly.
"Wade-kun, you're amazing for buying such a nice house in a great location with just one big gold coin... People can't normally afford it, right? It's quiet, easy to live in, and easy to go anywhere, such a big house...!"
"As the daughter of a merchant, you seem to have a good sense of value."
"Anyway, what kind of defects does it have...?"
"Oh, you've noticed that much, huh?"
I chuckled at Ice, who tilted her head with pure eyes.
After gathering everyone together again, I explained.
"Alright, let's share it for now. Clay already knows, and I think everyone has a vague idea, but this property has some issues. It seems to be a house where deaths occur frequently. That's why we got it at a cheap price."
"Wow...? What's that, ghosts appearing?"
"I don't get it. Anyway, it seems that dead people are involved. The previous owner, a merchant, was stabbed by a friend, the owner before that was taken by thieves, and even before that, they died to an unknown illness. There's no consistency, but the point is, they all died."
"Hey... why did you buy something like that?"
Toxy asked, and Clay and I responded.
""It was a bargain price.""
"Oh yeah, that's right! I forgot this party lacks common sense!"
Toxy held her head in his hands. Ice patted his head gently.
"By the way, we did check the inside, and it wasn't in bad condition. There was some dust, but assuming we clean it up for a day, it should be usable without any issues."
"It's a big house... so yeah, with a big space, cleaning is a big task..."
While saying that, Ice was full of motivation. Clenching both hands, she was brimming with enthusiasm.
"So, today we're all going to do a big clean-up together. If you find a room you like while we're at it, just move your stuff in and reserve it as you please. It's first come, first served."
"By the way, I've already reserved a sunny corner room, so please take care of it."
"Clay, when did you..."
Clay nods with a smile. He's quite sly too.
"That's the gist of it. There are about 10 rooms you can choose from in your own space, so pick one as you like."
"Got it, Wade-kun..."
"Well, okay, I understand, Wade. The questionable parts are a bit scary, but let's try living here for now."
After getting everyone's approval, I unlocked the front door.
Inside the mansion, the decorations and other items were worth about 7 big gold coins, totaling approximately 210 million Japanese yen, making it quite luxurious.
The clean, white design with stone accents inside and out, and the warm wooden flooring gave the place a cozy feel.
And the interesting thing is that the stairs are not neatly done. The slightly shaky stone construction has a unique and nice taste to it.
Moreover, having a garden and seeing the pool that I had only heard about left me gaping in amazement.
"This is practically a hotel now."
"Hehe... We bought a nice house, didn't we?"
While cleaning, Ice was laughing.
Now, regarding the important part, nothing strange happened that day.
The cleaning was finished in a day, and even my worry, the Iron Lump Sword, could be neatly stored in the warehouse.
"With a warehouse this spacious, we could make some profit by renting it to the Merchant Guild."
I remember Clay saying something like that.
Anyway, we carried various things from the inn, prepared all the necessities like food and firewood, and by the end of the day, we had completed our move.
The problem arose the next day.
"Come here! Everyone, come here!"
At the morning, I was sleeping comfortably in my new bed when I heard Toxy scream, and I jumped up.
Listening for the source of the voice, it seemed to be coming from the living room, not Toxy's room.
Rushing over, I found Toxy leaning against the living room wall with a pale face.
"Toxy, what's wrong? What happened?"
"Uh, that... "
Toxy looked in the direction she was pointing.
There, lying on the ground covered in wounds, was a strange man.
"Y-You guys have a nice house... Cough... I never expected that when I came back to pick up something I forgot, I'd get beaten up by the security system like this..."
With a thud, the man just fainted after saying that.
I blinked a few times and muttered,
"...Who is this?"
He was a stranger.
