Volume 1 Chapter 6 The Eye-Covered Ice
We were facing each other again on the playground.
"Nice to meet you again, I'm Wade. Thank you for forming a party with me. I said yes in the heat of the moment, but was it really okay to choose me?"
"Uh, well, you seem more polite than I thought... Uh, um! ...I'm Ice, yes. Um, thank you for teaming up with me too. I'm happy."
She's quite a quiet girl. Her way of speaking is a bit hesitant, but it seems like there's no problem teaming up with me for now.
Now, I should train her properly to be able to move in the party. As I think about what to do with while looking at Ice, she bows her head.
"I-I'm sorry... It must be annoying after all. I'm just a half-baked magician..."
"That's not true. If you say that, I'm a Slow Magician. We're both unpopular magics, but let's do our best."
"――――! Y-yeah!"
Ice looked up at me with a look of admiration. She must have heard a lot about her magic. It's magic harassment. For short, it's called Majihara.
So, I am starting to trust Ice as a fellow Majihara companion. But there are things that must be done. I propose to her.
"So, let's team up for a party, train together, and check out each other's magic..."
"Yes, I, I look forward to it..."
Ice bows deeply. She seems well-mannered. At least she doesn't seem to come from the slums like me.
"Alright, let me show you my magic first. My magic is gravity magic. The magic I can use now is [Weight Increase]."
"Weight... increase?"
"I can increase the weight of someone I touch for more than a second by multiple times. It's a tricky spell to use. That's why they call it Slow Magic."
Just to try it out, I demonstrated "Weight Up" and handed over a random small stone. Ice took it and immediately staggered.
"Wow, it's, uh, heavy...! Oh, it got lighter right away..."
"So, that's how it goes. As for other magic..."
While about to say I don't have it, I traced my magic seal with my right hand and noticed that another magic had been added. Seriously? I'll have to experiment later. Cool.
"There is, but it's I haven't fully grasped yet. I'll let you know once I figure it out."
"O-okay... T-then, it's my turn, right?"
With a shy and fidgety demeanor, Ice said. Then she dashed to the edge of the playground, saying, "Just wait a moment!" She returned from the well with a bucket of water.
"Alright, um, could you pour the water slowly onto the ground...?"
"Got it."
"Thank you...!"
We are at the training dummy practice area. As I dribble water on the ground, the water droplets turn into ice and she reach out towards the dripping water.
"Ah, Ice Blow!"
The dripping water instantly freezes, forming into icy spikes that pierce the training dummy. I gasp as I look at the training dummy now covered in ice needles.
"Ah, I see. So, if there's water, you can fight adequately. Now show me what you can do without water."
"Well... um, that's a bit... can I get a pass on that...?"
"Well, I'm not a water magician, so it's better to practice fighting without water as the basic approach."
"...Understood."
She answers dejectedly as she walk towards the training dummy. She chants "Ice Blow!" once more.
Suddenly, a powerful blast of cold wind erupts from her hands, chilling the air around us. I watch in amazement as the training dummy is affected by the attack.
"...Um, well, that's all there is."
That's it. I nodded, saying, "I see..."
"What about other magic?"
"Well, I, I haven't learned any others yet. I'm sorry..."
"No need to apologize. I see, I understand the gist of it."
Certainly a bit tricky, but not as difficult as gravity magic. Speaking of gravity magic, it's a very difficult magic to use, even if I do say so myself. Why do I have to control it so precisely, turning it on and off in such tiny increments?
"Um, well, I can help with carrying things or whatever you need, so...!"
"Oh, no. I was just thinking about how best to use it. Let's figure out the details about carrying things later."

"Gravity magic is tough. It was hard to find a way to use it other than for strength training. It's lucky that magic consumption is determined by time, not frequency, but otherwise it would have been really difficult..."

"Ice, why don't you try using your magic on the practice dummy?"

Ice approached the practice dummy and chanted, "Ice Blow!" Without even touching it, the practice dummy lurched back and didn't come back.
"Huh? D-Did I break it..?"
"No, it seems like..."
I touched the practice dummy. And then I laughed, saying, "Just as I thought."
"Ice. The practice dummy is frozen."
"Huh! ...Oh, really...!"
Ice magic can be effective at close range even without water.
The need for water was probably just because it was easier for Water magicians to freeze and throw.
Although called ice magic, it's essentially freezing magic.
"It makes sense. Water is needed for long-range attacks, but if you get up close, you can unleash a devastating move. Plus, if you think about the different things you can freeze, there might be other ways to use it."
"Wow...! A-amazing, Wade-kun!"
Ice said with sparkling eyes behind her long bangs. Her expression was cute, so I laughed and said, "You're the amazing one, Ice."
