Chapter 6 [SIDE Charles Vandale] The Gear That Start to go Crazy

Chapter 6 [Side Charles Vandale] The Gear That Start To Go Crazy

"Umm, reporting! Gale-dono has been defeated by someone!"

 "What...?"

At Vandale Palace, in the king's chamber, Charles, who was happily sipping his drink, paused upon receiving the report from his retainer.

Charles listened attentively to the continued report from his retainer.

However, the contents were suddenly hard to believe.

"Gale-dono was attacked by intruders in the courtyard of the Bartley mansion last night. After being overwhelmed in a duel, he relinquished the family headship to Lilyna Bartley, his eldest daughter."

"They defeated Gale in a duel? Who on earth could that be?"

"The details of their identity are unclear, but based on their appearance, they might be the infamous Black-Robed Executor that's been making headlines lately..."

"The Black-Robed Executor, huh? That name's been popping up a lot lately..."

Charles clicked his tongue in frustration and downed the drink he had in his hand.

"But he's Gale, right? I remember seeing his impressive job abilities in past battles..."

During a previous royal match, Charles had assessed Gale's strength.

He possessed the advanced job of Paladin, which utilized the blessings of spirits, showing undeniable skill.

So, Charles had instructed Gale to groom a successor and recognized him as a senior citizen of the kingdom, asking him to provide talent to the royal family.

Since then, they had built a close relationship with the royal family...

"How's Gale doing? Did he get killed so cruelly?"

 "No, it's not like that..."

 "What? Spit it out already!"

Charles vented his frustration at the retainer's hesitant demeanor.

"Well... he said he won't have anything to do with the royal family anymore. He fears invoking the wrath of that demon if he remains involved with the royal family."

"What nonsense. His Paladin job is still powerful. He could lend a hand to the royal family again with that strength."

"He says he can't use his job abilities anymore..."

"Job abilities can't be used anymore?"

 Charles thought it was strange.

Once you receive a job ability, you never lose it for life. What does it mean that it can't be used anymore?

――Is Gale saying he had his job ability taken away for angering the God? Ridiculous.

Charles concluded he was just losing confidence after losing a duel.

"Anyway, Gale-dono is completely worn out, almost like a ruined man. The new head, Lilyna Bartley, has shown no intention of associating with the royal family――"

"Enough. Leave the Bartley family alone. We can find the necessary talent elsewhere. Besides, just changing the attitude towards mere nobility is not worth our concern."

 "Y-yes..."

"More importantly, who is the (Black-Robed Executor)?"

"I don't know... But if they defeated Gale-dono, they must be pretty strong."

Charles snorted disinterestedly at those words.

He doesn't know what kind of job abilities that Black-Robed Executor has, but there's no way they could match his granted [Silver Sword Saint] job.

Nonetheless, the fact that the royal family's "plan" has been disrupted by some unknown person was infuriating to Charles.

At the same time, perhaps due to a feeling similar to humiliation, Charles remembered the name of a person he had expelled two years ago.

 ――Adel Vandale.

The name of his son who once received a dishonorable job and tarnished the royal family's reputation.

"Hmph, well, I suppose it doesn't matter. This won't disrupt the plan's main outline. Are there any other problems?"

"Y-yes. Funding from the Lowenthal Merchant Guild is proceeding smoothly. And also, similarly, from Dana Tempelar-dono..."

Despite receiving reports from his retainers, Charles remained outwardly calm, concealing his boiling frustration.

Whether it was due to the secret activities of the mysterious figure, the Black-Robed Executor, or perhaps because he was reminded of his incompetent son from the past, Charles acknowledged it was likely both.

 And then――

"No, I couldn't care less about the late Adel now. Thanks to my advancing plans, the royal family will walk into a glorious future. It was a brilliant move on my part to eliminate that stain on their glory."

The words Charles muttered were decisively wrong.
