Chapter 3 Helping Out in the Forest

Chapter 3 Helping Out In The Forest

...When I woke up, I found myself collapsed in the middle of a forest.

It seemed like I had been running recklessly.

 "Huff... Huff..."

This place was probably the usual [forest] I frequented.

It was where I trained with my master and also where I gathered herbs and other plants.

In other words, it was like my own familiar backyard.

So, I ended up here without even thinking about it.

"Now, what should I do next?"

I felt bad for the villagers, but it was uncomfortable to stay here.

The elderly people wouldn't scold me outright, of course.

However, I didn't want to keep receiving pity forever.

"Should I leave? Granny Merlin said it's okay to leave."

I worried about the villagers' health, but Granny Merlin said she could handle it. If there's an opportunity, it's okay to leave, she said.

 "..."

Honestly, I couldn't bring myself to go back to the village like this.

It felt awkward, and most of all, I didn't ever want to see that woman again.

"Before we leave, let's go say goodbye to my master."

In this forest, there's the hut my master used and his grave.

I remember there were spare tools for prescriptions, daily necessities, and maybe some money in the hut.

Let's go there and gather some equipment before I set off.

That's what I was thinking at that moment.

 "Help! Somebody, help me!!!"

...A woman's scream echoed in the forest.

Not many people come to this secluded forest.

I can't imagine elderly people, who usually go to bed early and wake up early, wandering around at night.

So, it must be someone who's come here for the first time.

 "..."

Before I knew it, I was running.

Despite being heartbroken because my fiancée betrayed me, I was still reaching out to help someone in need.

When someone asks why, I answer that it's because I've been taught that way.

My master, Asclepius, always said to use your power to help those in need.

Both the power of medicine and the power as a [Pharmacist (healer).

 So I help.

 "There..."

It was near my master's hut.

 A carriage had overturned.

A female knight covered in blood was there, surrounded by other knights who seemed like guards.

And... a well-dressed girl, trembling with a pale face.

Around the girls, a pack of Shadow Wolves was circling.

With their sharp eyes and fangs, they were about to pounce to devour the soft flesh of the women.

I reached into my pouch and grabbed a handful of necessary ingredients.

 "[Prescription: Paralyze Poison]"

Boom! I threw the powder I made towards the shadow wolves.

It caused a chemical reaction in the air, emitting electricity and paralyzing the wolves around.

 "Paralysis magic!?"

 "No, it's medicine."

"Medicine...!? Can medicine really stop monsters like that!?"

 A bloodied female knight asked.

It's a skill called Prescription. It's the skill of making medicine. I was trained by my master and can prescribe all sorts of medicines.

"Yeah. Medicine can become poison if used excessively. As a pharmacist, I can also make poisons like that."

Next, I reached into my pouch and grabbed the necessary ingredients.

 "[Prescription: Sleep Potion]"

 This time, white smoke emerged.

The paralyzed shadow wolves fell down instantly.

"Finish it off... [Prescription: Deadly Poison]".

My hands turned black... as I touched the face of the sleeping wolf.

At that moment, the wolf's body turned black in an instant and crumbled away... without leaving a trace, dead.

"Did you just... take down that shadow wolf in one blow?"

"Lady Knight, leave the rest to me. I'll take care of these guys and then heal you right away."

I touched the remaining sleeping wolves.

They all died together. Well, I guess the crisis is over now.

The lethal poison I prepared disappeared, and my hands returned to their original color.

 "Now then... are you okay?"

 "D-Don't move...!"

The female knight held her sword ready, her voice tense as she spoke to me.

Seems like she's wary of me. Well, it's only natural to be cautious when someone shows such a deadly poison right in front of you.

"I'm fine. I'm a Pharmacist. You and your friends seem to be injured, so can I treat you?"

 "T-Treat us...?"

A girl in a dress approached us from behind.

 "Lilith, trust this person's words."

 "But, milady..."

The female knight is Lilith, and she's protecting this young lady.

The young lady looks at me and bows slightly.

"Thank you for helping. And, I have a request. Please help those people."

From her actions, she seems like she's from a pretty wealthy family.

 Maybe even nobility.

Honestly, after what happened earlier, I don't have good feelings towards nobles.

But that's just my personal grudge.

Turning away someone asking for help just because of my feelings isn't right.

"Got it. I'll handle it right away. To start, here's [Prescription: Healing Potion]."

I grabbed some herbs from my pouch and activated my skill.

I threw it into the air, and it turned into green liquid, hovering there.

With a snap, I splattered it all over Lilith...

"!? W-what?! The wound healed!? That serious injury, in an instant!?"

"Next, it's the other guards' turn."

It seems like the other's even more seriously injured than Lilith.

Some people are missing limbs, and there are even some in a state of apparent death.

"With all the remaining materials... [Prescription: Elixir Potion]"

 "Wha- Elixir Potion!?"

Using the materials in my hand, along with the moisture in the air and surrounding herbs, I create it.

Through the Prescription skill, it creates a universal remedy that can heal any injury or illness, Elixir Potion.

I make as much as possible, and water droplets appear in the air.

Splitting them apart, they rain down like rain...

 "Ugh... what!?"

 "I should've been dead..."

"Wow! My hand! My torn hand is healed!"

 "What's going on here!?"

Alright, all the injured are healed now.

 "W-wow, amazing!"

The young lady in the dress looked at me with sparkling eyes.

"Not only did you defeat that scary shadow wolf in an instant, but you also healed so many injured people in the blink of an eye, and even brewed an elixir!"

 And then she said this.

"You must be the healer I've been seeking... the legendary healing god Asclepius-sama, right!?"

 Oh, I see.

These people came to see my master.

"Sorry, but my master is dead. A long time ago."

"Is that so...? Then, who are you?"

"Me? I'm... Leaf. I'm just a humble pharmacist and a disciple of Master Asclepius."

The young lady and Lilith looked surprised for a moment,

But Lilith quickly regained her composure and spoke with a rough voice.

"No way, I'd love to have a Pharmacist like youuuuuu!"

* * *

...This is Dead End Village, a place lost in the wilderness.

It's where great heroes retire and live peacefully. It's commonly known as [Hero Village].

Here, under the tutelage of Master Asclepius, I, Leaf, learned healing techniques from another dimension and honed my Prescription skills in the forest where monsters roam. I gained extraordinary power.

My life, which had hit rock bottom after losing my fiancée to a foolish noble, took a 180-degree turn on the day I met a certain young lady.

This is the story of a cheat Pharmacist raised in the borderlands, who earns rightful recognition in the city and achieves greatness.
