Volume 9 Chapter 20 Feelings Behind The Gifts
Today's task is not just about buying groceries for cooking. Hinata mentioned that Christmas involves exchanging gifts, so we have decided to buy presents for each other.
After we got off at the next station, we split up temporarily to buy the gifts.
It wouldn't be fun if I already knew what the presents were.
But honestly, Hinata gives us challenging tasks without hesitation. Buying a present for one woman is already hard, and now I have to choose something without even knowing who will receive it.
Impossible.
Everyone has different preferences, and finding something that would make anyone happy is like playing an impossible game.
Back in my Hero days, I used to receive presents, not give them.
I wonder what women would appreciate receiving. Perfume, clothes, accessories. These things don't really fit the idea of exchanging gifts in the first place.
Anyway, maybe a gift card will work. It would make them happy if they could just get one for now.
But if I keep buying things like that, it's obvious that Hinata will look at me with that "Seriously, still a virgin..." expression.
Still, I wonder what's good. As I thought of it and passed by a trendy store that even seemed intimidating, I noticed something interesting.
When I saw that, a woman came to mind.
In the end, no matter what I choose, it won't be the best choice. Only the person themselves would know what they truly want.
So, let me at least choose something I think is good.
Because I believe that feeling is the most important.
* * *
Lisha has been struggling with her emotions almost every day lately.
Ever since she saw Yuusuke and Eris talking, her chest has been hurting so much that it feels like it might burst.
――Why is that?
Why does it hurt so much like this?
When Lisha found out about Yuusuke and Eris's relationship, she felt very angry. She was surprised that she could have such negative feelings towards someone, and she couldn't forgive Eris.
Lisha was the closest to Yuusuke and she should have been the one he trusted the most. So, she couldn't understand why they separated in a way that felt like a betrayal.
She can understand what Sharla and the others are saying. They had no other choice but to separate Yuusuke in order to protect him from the curse of "The Chosen Hero (Brave Face)."
But, she can't help but think that there might have been another way. She wonders if she could have been there to help Yuusuke with her power.
She couldn't accept it. Every time she saw Yuusuke in pain, it felt like she was in pain too.
That's why she couldn't forgive. It's no longer about reasoning.
No matter why, she couldn't agree that Eris hurt Yuusuke in Asteris. That one thing was just too difficult to accept.
Whenever she realized that, she would compare it to a childish feeling about herself.
Lisha doesn't understand. She doesn't know that it's a problem of feelings as a woman.
When she saw Yuusuke and Eris talking, somewhere deep in her heart, she thought she should really understand what she gave up.
A feeling she never felt before, not even a little.
But the moment their (Yuusuke and Eris) eyes met, that feeling disappeared.
――Oh...
Stop it.
Please stop.
Don't look at her like that.
Yuusuke-san...
Don't look at that woman like that.
Please don't say kind words.
Because she abandoned you.
But then, she stopped herself from saying words that felt like they would break her heart, even if it was just a little bit, all because of her pride.
As a Saint.
She was proud to be the one closest to "him" for the last six months.
Maybe, in the end, she held back because she didn't want to confront her own unhappy self if she said those words.
Yuusuke and Eris had feelings for each other.
The betrayal by Eris, which Lisha couldn't forgive, wasn't such a big deal because there was enough trust between the two of them to say that.
Since she found out, Lisha couldn't talk well with Yuusuke anymore.
She wonder what kind of distance they had and how they spoke until now.
What expressions did she has?
She doesn't understand anything.
Things that she used to be able to do naturally, she can't do them anymore.
It's frustrating and, above all, infuriating that Yuusuke doesn't realize it.
She's sure in his eyes, only that fiery person is reflected.
Therefore, Hinata's suggestion for a Christmas party was like a miracle for her.
It's not hard to think of things to talk about. She can even make everyone feel better.
As she thinks back to how she used to be, it feels like she used to speak in a detached way, as if it was someone else's story.
Now, Lisha was alone, looking at the gifts.
Even though there's almost no chance of seeing him, the only thing that comes to mind is Yuusuke's face.
What would make him happy?
I'm sure he would be happy and appreciate anything.
Just thinking about that warms her heart and makes her a little nervous.
With a glimmer of hope, Lisha chose a gift.
